What Are The Steps For Renting With Housing Benefit

Can someone get arrested for lying to the housing authority?

Depends how much housing benefit has been over-paid based on the lie.

If it's a small amount they will give you a warning and arrange to get it paid back.

Neighbor committing welfare, housing and ssi fraud?

Doesnt effect you so who cares

Who benefits from rent control?

Tenants who already have an apartment.

Pros and Cons of renting/Buying a house?

Pros of Renting:
You can move after the lease is up
You are not required to pay for repairs
You are not responsible for property taxes
If you suddenly can't pay, the most you're responsible for is the rest of the lease

Cons of Renting:
You cannot make changes (such as paint - unless approved, building on, etc)

Pros of Home Ownership:
It's yours and you can do what you want with it
Tax deduction (not much though, so don't let this be the deciding factor)
Mortgage doesn't increase constantly (will only increase if taxes and/or insurance does)

Cons of Home Ownership:
You are responsible for all repairs
You are responsible for all yard work
You may lose equity or you may gain it... depends on the market (so you want to plan on staying at least 5 years)
If you can't pay your mortgage... you lose it all

These were just some of the items on my list when I was thinking about buying vs. renting (I thought about the decision for 3 years). I bought my first home last year and I love it (I'm 27). I had been renting since I was 18, but I wasn't ready for the responsibility of owning any sooner. Good luck to you. I suggest purchasing some First Time HomeBuyer books. They list pros and cons of each and really help you to understand each step of the process. The two I loved were: "The Everything Homebuying Book: All the Ins and Outs of Making the Biggest Purchase of Your Life (Everything: Business and Personal Finance)" by Mark B. Weiss and Ruth Rejnis and "Home Buying For Dummies", 3rd edition by Eric Tyson and Ray Brown.

Can you help me write appeal letter for low-income housing?

There is probably a specific form or outline that the housing office uses for any appeal. Your local housing office should be able to help you with with the appeal form, the same way they supplied the application.

It would probably be good to stop by a neighborhood legal aid office. The appeal is a formal process. The results will be kept in your file. There is probably a record of the questions and answers given in your interview. The record of your interview may be written, transcribed, or it could be a digital recording.

The appeal will include an informal hearing. You will be given the opportunity to present your evidence that the answers you gave in your interview were misunderstood, and did not contradict the information in your application.

The letter you write should be very simple:

Dear Public Housing Authority -
I received a letter of rejection with regards to my application for low income housing. I want to appeal that decision. Please send any forms, and instructions outlining the steps required to make that appeal. Thank you in advance.
Signed,
_________

If there is no specific form to use then write a letter to the address on the rejection letter:

Dear Public Housing Officer:
I received a rejection letter in regards to my application to low income housing. The reason stated for rejection is that my interview answers did not match information on my application. This is not true. I believe there has been a misunderstanding of my interview answers. With this letter I am making an appeal of the decision of rejection.
Sincerely,
______________

You may find more information on your local public housing website relating to making an appeal. If the rejection letter gave specific interview answers they thought were contrary, then check with an attorney as to whether you should write out specific rebuttal of their evidence for each answer.

Before you appeal the rejection letter, reconsider whether leaving your mom's house is really best. Look at the financial benefits of staying at your mom's house. Also, the apartment is going to be a year lease, with utilities, food, and other costs and expenses. The longer you can stay at your mother's house, the more money you might be able to save.

Good Luck.
