What Are Your Experience Transitioning From Cigarette To Electronic Cigarette

Is using electronic cigarettes fire safe?

There is probably more danger involved in charging your e-cigs than in using them. It is always a good idea to use well-rated chargers for removeable batteries and the manufacturer’s supplied charger for e-cigs with non-removable batteries. If you follow these rules, charging e-cigs is no more dangerous than charging any other device with rechargeable batteries, like laptop computers. Thus, actually vaping is hardly to be considered dangerous. As for e-cigs setting off smoke detectors, it should not be a problem for normal vaping, although it might be if the detector is set to be very sensitive as in airplane bathrooms. Cloud chasing (deliberately selecting e-cig types and juices which produce maximum vapor) will frequently set off even the least sensitive detectors (EDIT: in small rooms).I carry a small terry cloth towel with me at all times and exhale through it whenever I am in a place where a cloud of vapor is inappropriate (or might set off a smoke detector).EDIT: I wrote this two days ago and evidently didn’t click on ‘Submit’. I just found it in my Draft files. Interesting to get a second chance to inspect the answer to see if anything needs changing. Not much, although I think the third paragraph may be slightly off-topic.

What are people's experiences transitioning from cigarette smoking to using an electronic cigarette?

I have a close friend here in Texas who bought a cig-a-like product a couple of years ago when he was trying to quit. I tried it because I was curious but unimpressed. I have another friend that lives back up north who kept telling me about NJoy and Blu and that he liked them and used them to quit, still unimpressed. Then I read a blog post from a fellow Quoran Jonas M Luster (no longer a contributor) about e-cigs back in January 2013.  I believe it was this postA few lines on e-CigarettesIt excited me. Just so happens he didn't live far from me and we talked online a bit about and he offered to meet me at a local brick and mortar establishment to show me the ropes. That was Jan 31, 2013 at 5:00PM. I spent about $95 for 2 batteries, a case, a charger and 30 mil of juice. I haven't had a cigarette since that day.Not only did I experience the same level of satisfaction, it was infinitely better. No ash, no burning embers and lets face it, analog cigs taste like crap, this one didn't. I was a menthol smoker so I started with 18mg Menthol (I have left tobacco flavors behind for the "child friendly" *smh* flavors) The throat hit was just as I needed it to be, the vapor production was equivalent to smoke production and I could now smoke in my house and stop trying to hide from my wife. I no longer smelled like an ashtray. Honestly, I can not say one bad thing about them except that I wish I started using them sooner.I guess due to weight and the fact that I have to press a button means I cant use it with no hands but honestly, the smoke would get in my eyes and make it uncomfortable to do so anyway.I pimp them to every smoker I know.

What are some pros and cons of smoking electronic cigarettes?

I've been vaping for almost two years after smoking for most of the past 15 years, and here's my take:Pros:  I don't stink.  My car doesn't stink.  I don't have to stop at the gas station every day or two.  I spend about 50 bucks every two months or so on liquid and supplies, so I'm saving a significant amount of money.  I don't have to go outside to smoke--I vape in my house (never smoked inside), I vape at work (in my office with the door closed), in the movies, in a bar, etc.  I've vaped in airports and on planes, in the offices of various professionals (doctors, lawyers, etc.) and people either don't say anything about it or might ask a question or two, simply because they are curious.  (I was informed that I couldn't vape in a public park recently though--the officer said if it looks like a cigarette and acts like a cigarette ((and it does neither--my ecig doesn't look anything like a cigarette and it doesn't function the same as a cigarette in any way but that's neither here nor there)) I couldn't use it in the park.)  I don't get short of breath when I take the stairs or climb a hill. I don't cough up nasty shit in the morning and I don't have stains on my teeth or my fingers.  Cons:  Although disposable ecigs are available at a lot of convenience stores now, they wouldn't be the same as *my* cig and my liquid, so if I happened to lose it or forget it (and my backups), I would be a little lost.  If I was still smoking and I forgot my cigarettes, I'd just buy another pack.I actually can't think of any other cons.In short--if you aren't a smoker now, don't use an ecig.  That would just be silly.  But if you're tired of the hassles of cigarettes and concerned about your health, go ahead and give it a try.  I love the hell outta my ecig.

What is it like to smoke an electronic cigarette?

Electronic cigarette, also known as electric cigarette or e-cigarette, is a new and healthier alternative to smoking real tobacco cigarettes. This product really should be called a smoking simulator because that is exactly what it does. Invented a few years back, it is now get more and more popular because smokers finally know that they can eliminate the harmful chemicals from their smoke but still get their nicotine with devices.  So what exactly is electronic cigarette? The Electronic Cigarette is a device that simulates the functions of a real cigarette without the harmful chemicals such as tar, carbon monoxide, and arsenic that is found in real tobacco leaf cigarettes.  The electronic cigarette consists of 3 parts:  * Battery (which looks like the long white tabacoo part of a real cigarette)  * Atomiser (which is component that screws onto the battery to vaporize the liquid)  * Cartridge (which is encased in plastic mouthpiece that looks like the filter)http://www.ecigator.com/articles...

How do electronic cigarettes and smoking compare?

The BMA is one one of the few holdouts left who do not publicly realise that e-cigs are so much safer than cigarettes. How much exactly is not yet known, as longitudinal studies are needed for this, but short term, which is how many people use them (as an aid to stopping smoking), they are over 90% safer.Comparing the use of the two types:E-cigs produce clouds of vapour as opposed to clouds of smoke. One can of course reduce the vapour, if one wishes, and "stealth vape" with little or no evidence visible (try that with a cigarette!).E-cigs' smell and vapour dissipates relatively very quickly.E-cigs come in a wide (1000+) varieties and flavours, not just tobacco.E-cigs have a selectable nicotine content, commonly from zero to 3.6%, but 1.2% to 2.4% are the most usual.E-cigs are customise-able at the high end and to a degree at the middle of the market. One can select for airflow, vapour temperature, size, weight and style. As well of course the selection of a liquid to suit oneself.Traditional analogue cigarettes have one basic flavour, temperature, etc.The ability to customise the effect to suit yourself is critical to whether you will completely switch to e-cigs, or become a "dual fueller".

Is the electronic cigarette effective for quitting smoking? Do electronic cigarettes have a higher success rate than other smoking cessation device/products?

I was a pack a day smoker for 12 years. It was so frustrating trying to quit, I must have tried a good 7 times! So I guess I kind of had the intent to quit, but just couldn't get thru. My biggest problem with quitting smoking was the weekends when friends would meet up for drinks. And living in Qatar, where smoking is just so common, it made it all the more hard.  Nicotine gum helped a bit, but all it did was stop me from buying a pack. So if anyone would smoke next to me, I would immediately ask for one, and later in the day, I would buy myself a pack!!A friend of mine showed me his ecigarette. I had heard about them before, but didn't really bother to find out more. This time it was right in front me. I saw the smoke (vape), and I went ahead and bought myself a starter pack. The best decision ever - 12 years of smoking - 7 times trying to quit - all it took was 1 ecigarette - just 1!!!

What are the advantages of smoking electronic cigarettes?

There are lots of benefits to electronic cigarettes. First of all, they contain virtually none of the harmful chemicals found in tobacco cigarettes. They're also much cheaper! Here's a good article outlining the benefits: Benefits of E-Cigs vs. Tobacco Cigarettes

Should electronic cigarettes still be banned from no smoking areas?

There is plenty of information out there to say that vaping is not a health issue. Personally I suspect that the tiny amount of nicotine you may inhale should you choose the tobacco option may at some point be an issue. Vaping tho cuts out all of the noxious substances we know to be real health problems such as tar. Preventing people from vaping seems to me to be a killjoy reaction. Most tobacco smokers were very aware that their habit upset non-smokers, and would go out of their way to ensure that smoke did not encroach another's space. But we were harried and treated like lepers anyway, despite the fact we were doing something legal and paying way over the odds, tax wise to do so (this is the UK, btw). We ended up unable to smoke anywhere in public... How the anti smoking lobby gloated, and clapped their hands in excitement at their win.  So imagine, if you will, their response when those blasted smokers found something innocuous to keep themselves happy and healthy... and so quickly too...dammit!  In my neighbourhood, within a very short time vaping was banned in the shopping centre, outside of public areas, on the top deck of buses and ... so it goes on. The ridiculous part of it all is that a vast percentage of the vapers who are affected by such a ban smoke... coca colour or toffee flavoured juice... You may as well ban drinking tea in public, since that produces far more steam than any ecig... and can you imagine how ridiculous it would be if anyone were arrested, and taken to court over all of this: the charge being "enjoying a tiny morsel of steam, lightly flavoured with cherry, m'Lud.... nooooo there IS no law against it.."

Have electronic cigarettes been created to stop smoking or to get young people to start?

Neither!E-cigs are mostly used as an alternative to smoking. The key-phrase here is "Harm Reduction".There are many people in the world who either do not wish to, or cannot, quit smoking. These are the primary targets for the e-cig marketers.E-cigs can and have helped many people to quit the habit completely. But they are first and foremost being used by heavy smokers to reduce the amount of harm that is caused by the burning of tobacco and the inhalation of its products.Electronic Cigarettes Hold Promise As Aid to Quitting by Miles Dolphin on E-cigsNobody at all is target marketing e-cigs towards first-time-smokers and the young. To do so would be against everything the manufacturers and retailers believe in, many of whom are heavy users of e-cigs. The owner of my local shop is a very heavy "vaper" but he insists on the staff applying the same age restrictions to e-cigs as are applicable to ordinary cigarettes. This appears to be general throughout the industry, and (certainly in the UK) even more rigorously applied - especially by ECITA (the Electronic Cigarette Industry Trade Association). ECITA by Miles Dolphin on E-cigsIt is currently contrary to regulations to advertise e-cigs as an aid to quitting, as this appears to be a medical claim and as such would be against the law as e-cigs are not medically regulated. The fact that they continue to be more effective at assisting quitting than many of the medically approved nicotine replacement therapies seems to be ignored by many health professionals. There is no study which has shown that electronic cigarettes are  preventing smokers from quitting: that is, that without electronic  cigarette use a substantial number of vapers would have instead quit  smoking.Second, the existing evidence actually suggests the exact opposite.  Rather than preventing smokers from quitting, electronic cigarettes are  helping many smokers to either quit smoking completely or to cut down  substantially on the amount they quit. In the Polosa study, which was conducted among smokers unmotivated to quit, 54% of the smokers either quit or cut down by more than half  on their smoking when they initiated use of electronic cigarettes.Electronic Cigarette Opponents Now Making Up, Not Just Lying About Evidence by Miles Dolphin on E-cigsI am not associated with the tobacco or e-cig industries in any way, except as a customer for their products.
