What Are Your Interpretations Of This Story

What's your interpretation of...?

Everyone shows affection and love differently, there is no wrong or right way. Must there always be a giver and a taker in love, Yes and No

Because the proverb says, "In love, there is always one who kisses and one who offers the cheek." it does not say in the proverb they are always the same person.

Love is trusting someone enough to be weak sometimes and strong other times. You take turns being the giver and the receiver in a relationship. That is the way I see it.

What are the most popular interpretations of the story The Emperor's New Clothes?

The Emperor's New Clothes is a fable. It has a single, strict and figurative meaning. Since it was written specifically to deliver a single message, the plural, "interpretations" is wrong in this case. The Emperor's New Clothes is about the lies we accept in order to deffer to authority.

How are the interpretations of the creation story of Adam and Eve and the serpent different between Christianity, Judaism, and Islam?

I'm a Muslim so I'll tell you the story according to the Quran.“And "O Adam, dwell, you and your wife, in Paradise and eat from wherever you will but do not approach this tree, lest you be among the wrongdoers." But Satan whispered to them to make apparent to them that which was concealed from them of their private parts. He said, "Your Lord did not forbid you this tree except that you become angels or become of the immortal." And he swore [by Allah ] to them, "Indeed, I am to you from among the sincere advisors." So he made them fall, through deception. And when they tasted of the tree, their private parts became apparent to them, and they began to fasten together over themselves from the leaves of Paradise. And their Lord called to them, "Did I not forbid you from that tree and tell you that Satan is to you a clear enemy?" [ Allah ] said, "Descend, being to one another enemies. And for you on the earth is a place of settlement and enjoyment for a time." He said, "Therein you will live, and therein you will die, and from it you will be brought forth." O children of Adam, We have bestowed upon you clothing to conceal your private parts and as adornment. But the clothing of righteousness - that is best. That is from the signs of Allah that perhaps they will remember. O children of Adam, let not Satan tempt you as he removed your parents from Paradise, stripping them of their clothing to show them their private parts. Indeed, he sees you, he and his tribe, from where you do not see them. Indeed, We have made the devils allies to those who do not believe.” (7:19-27)So, according to Islam, God created man to live on Earth for a while as a test to determine his recompense in the Hereafter. Firstly, since God created man as an intelligent creature, He taught him a lesson that he will be seduced to fall in sin by his eternal enemy, Satan. The concept of the original sin that every born man inherits and can only be forgiven by salvation, as in Christianity, is absent in Islam. Also, the original sin is to be blamed on both Adam and Eve equally, not on Eve alone.

What is your own interpretation of Hemingway's six-word story "For sale: baby shoes, never used."?

Let us divide the six word short story into three segments:For sale: / baby shoes,/ never used. For sale:This segment acts as the hook. For sale is a colloquial that is so prevalent in modern times that it instantly brings a flash of recognition in our mind. Ask any member of the pensioner's club and their favourite thing will be to meet old friends. Why? Recognition in a world which they no longer recognise. Simply put, it's catchy.baby shoes:This is one of the 'genres' in Indian (at least Hindi) literature, called vatsalya (childhood and innocence). It represents the promise of life, the very same promise that makes the search for Holy Grail of Jesus and 'amrit' interesting. It also represents hope, anticipation of a couple/individual to finally take probably the most significant step in their lives- have a baby. It is hope and life both anchored to two distinct words- shoes and baby respectively. Probably the most meaningful two words in the entire six word short story.never used:This is where the real taste of the story comes in- the tragedy. It is human nature that we are either attracted to comedy or tragedy. Every film tries to involve at least one of these two elements. Also, they give a very dramatic and significant conclusion to the entire story. It hits the reader with great impact, a jolt much needed to inspire deeper emotions especially in tragedies. To quote Shirley Toulson- "It's silence silences".

How does culture influence the interpretation of the story?

Hi Yap,That is an interesting question. Not one that I consciously thought about before, but now you mention it . . . I would vote yes. I say that because of my love of folklore. If you read fairy tales, they all start off with the ‘culture’ in which they were written. The characters might be woodsmen, knights, market sellers. The environment may be fields, woods, castles, dungeons. Bringing this up to modern times, we can understand Star Wars and Rockets because of our culture. But a medieval person would be lost if you mentioned a spaceship. So YES . . . I believe culture does influence the interpretation of a story. Hope this helps, Paul.

What is the interpretation of the Zen story on Master Bankei and the Nichiren priest?

What others sitting in front may have seen Benaki making this priest his lap dog. Others may have seen Benkai tricking the priest into obeying him and have him do whatever he pleased. There must have been those sitting there... having a good laugh... watching the priest perform. Still others may have grown in head size, to see how their master was so clever.I wonder how many times Benkai could have made the priest to sit on this side or the other, wonder what else he could have done with the priest. Could he have made a cat obey him too? What moved me the most in that parable is... when Benkai says...I think you are a very gentle person...Do you think Benkai could have made the priest come closer to him and have him sit here and there.... by shouting at him? The priest was not so gentle outwardly, but gentle on the inside.. hidden, covered up, buried.Benkai had to reach deep inside of the priest, past all the outward arrogance and reflect the gentleness that was within the priest. Even the priest could not have believed that he himself could be so gentle. It must have been a great shock to the priest himself. The contrast of his outwardness and what Benkai pulled out from him... must have been like a night turning to day in a blink.Discover your own gentleness. Gentleness to oneself, gentleness outward.

Jungian interpretation of the story rumpelstiltskin?

The shadow would be Rumpelstiltskin himself as he represents the devil...the devil that gives whatever you want in return for your soul. In this story, Rumpel spins gold for the girl but takes her ring, her necklace and eventually makes a deal with her to take her first born child after she becomes queen.

The animus would be the miller's daughter. Although she is portrayed as docile and dumb (for she does not express her opinions over her father's lie and the king's death threats), she eventually becomes a stronger character after tricking Rumpelstiltskin and learning his name. One of the main themes in this story is the power of names. It is said that knowing a demon's name would expel the demon back to wherever it came from - in this case, Rumpelstiltskin disappears after the Queen tells him his name.

The persona could be either Rumpelstiltskin's guise as a helpful spirit, or the miller's daughter as a docile peasant girl. These guises conceal their true nature as a malevolent spirit keen on gaining valuables and a living human baby and a strong-willed, determined person who seeks to protect both herself and her child.

Is the Catholic creation story true? What's your interpretation of it?

You asked, Is the Catholic creation story true? What's your interpretation of it?This is one of the things in the Bible that I am not sure about how to take it.But first of all, it is not a “Catholic” story, it is a BIBLICAL story. That story existed in writing 1,000s of years before any so called Pope or RCC.Let me give my interpretation.I believe that the story is a teaching about beginnings. To actually describe all the vast events of the universe to a scientifically illiterate people (compared to today) would be impossible, even now, it would take hundreds, no thousands of textbooks to even start to explain how the universe came into being, and most of those would be full of speculation - dark matter - dark energy - planet formation etc. etc.So I accept it (for now) as a religious shorthand, that succinctly tells us the basics, with the purpose of letting us know that there was a designer at work in the process.Even Richard Dawkins, atheist poster boy, has said in public that he does not believe in God (obviously) but when confronted with evidence of intelligent design, he believes it was done by highly advanced aliens. TRUE!!! this is what he said on camera in an interview. It just goes to show, people will believe anything, so long as it isn’t in the Bible.
