What Are Your Opinions On Allowances

Am i too old for allowance?

You are 18! You should get a job if you want money.

In your opinion, should children get an allowance (pocket money) from their parents? How much would you give to your children?

Yes, but apart from birthdays, xmas, or the tooth fairy, they shouldn’t be getting an allowance for nothing. If they’re doing chores and helping out around the house then sure, give them an allowance.I did get an allowance as a kid, but I also had some responsibilities I had to meet. I had to make my bed in the mornings, feed my pets (fish and dog), walk the dog & pick up after her, and complete all my homework when I got home from school. I also had to clean up after myself—if I used the kitchen and made a mess I had better clean up afterwards, my parents weren’t going to do it for me. I started at $10 in elementary school, then when I got to middle school/high school it went up to $20/week. My allowance was also my lunch money. If I decided to pack leftovers for lunch, I could keep the whole amount and buy manga or music on the weekend, if I chose to buy lunch I naturally had less to spend.I had a friend for a couple years who was always asking us for change so she could buy lunch—and not just once or twice, this happened on a daily basis 8th-10th grade. Her mom gave her $20/week for lunch money, but intead as soon as she got it she’d go running off to buy the latest magazines. I figure I’ve lent her over $100 over those years, and all I got once was a lousy $6 something check that her mom had to write out.I would hope that when kids get an allowance or lunch money these days they don’t turn around and blow it in one go, they won’t have any respect for money in that case. Honestly, I wish my ex-friend’s mom took the hint and stopped giving her lunch money, but she didn’t. Gods know if I had done that same thing they’d suspend allowance till I respected it again.

How much do you get for your Allowance?

-It depended what I was paying for myself, and how old I am.
-The chores I do are; make dinner about 3 nights a week, clean my room, my bathroom and the loft, unload the dish washer, watch my sister, help take care of the dog, collect the trash and recyling, take trash and recyling to the curb, vaccum.
-My grades are A's
-I listen and do what my parents say, for the most part, no less than another teenager
-I get $15 a week
-I'm 17
-I have to buy my own movie tickets, any thing while I'm out with my friends, any food I order, clothes, shoes, make up, hair things, anything for pleasure, basically my mom buys: food at the house, the house, cable, internet access, tooth paste, floss, doctor appointments (unless they are ones she doesnt want to be a part of)

(: If your kids are young you can go on you get a dollar per year your alive each week.
So if your 6 you get $6, if your 10 you get $10

Im NOT a spoild brat or anything i just need money for myself. What is your opinion regarding a boyfriend giving a monthly allowance (financially) to his girlfriend if they are in a serious relationship?

Would the question make sense to you the other way around? Would you expect different types of answering when genders are exchanged? If you are looking at it from any gender perspective: “Is it alright to grant a certain amount of financial support to your significant other?”Answer:Yes. Just ensure that you keep the amount reasonable and maybe limited regarding duration (to support study expenses, intermediate joblessness, illnesses…). If you feel good with it, do it! It's your money, your life and your relationship.

Children And Allowance?

In our household, allowance is a privelege rather than a right, and is certainly not given "regardless of their behavior".

Our older children, ages 11 and 9, get a weekly allowance, or rather they get paid for the things they do above and beyond what is expected of them as contributing members of this household. For instance, cleaning their rooms would not warrant pay but 'babysitting' or yard work does. And, like I said, whether they get an allowance or not also depends on their behavior. They both usually get a steady allowance, because there are things they have chosen to do to earn that money. They work harder when they want to earn more for whatever reason, and we are usually more generous when their goal is to earn to purchase a birthday or Christmas gift for a friend/family member than we are when they are saving for themselves, because we want them to think of others before themselves.

We chose to give our children an allowance because it does teach financial responsiblity. They tithe/donate a third, save a third and have a third to spend. The amount they spend on themselves is for extras they want, such as a toy or to spend at the concession stand when we are at the ball field, etc. If they want something that costs more than they have to spend that week, they have to hold on to it until they have enough. I have found that this compels them to make wiser decisions in regards to what they buy, teaches them the value of money and hopefully instills a good foundation so that they will make wise decisions when they are independent.

This is what works for us.

How much allowance should a 13 year old girl get?
