What Average In High School Do You Need To Get Into Ubc Business

How competitive is admission to Sauder School of Business (University of British Columbia's business program)? Is it realistic for someone who got a 1280 SAT score to get admitted?

According to a document recently leaked by UBC admissions staff, the minimum grade point average required for admission to the Bachelor of Commerce program at Sauder Business School in 2016 was 92.62% for domestic (Canadian) students but only 90.22% for international students. However, that percentage has been increasing each year, so it will be somewhat higher in September 2018.Note that the high school GPA for UBC admission is usually calculated using Grade 12 English and three other major subjects, usually from among math, calculus, biology, chemistry, physics, and possibly social studies or its equivalent (history or political science but not economics or law). The SAT is generally not considered, unless there is an exception for students applying from the United States. Likewise, A level exams may be considered for British applicants. For those who have not studied primarily in an English language setting, IELTS, TOEFL, or UBC’s proprietary LPI (Language Proficiency Index) test is usually required.Keep in mind that these published percentages represent only minimum requirements, and a score is also assigned to the personal profile that is sent as part of the application. Furthermore, AP courses (a relatively new arrival to Canada) and IB courses are valued more highly even when the marks (“grades” in American English) may be lower than those of applicants submitting only mainstream curriculum course marks. However, UBC and other Canadian universities surprisingly don’t care about the scores achieved in any AP tests or whether the applicants have even attempted any AP tests. For perspective, the following were the GPAs required for other bachelor’s programs at UBC in 2016: 87.67% for Canadians and 87.79% for international applicants to the Bachelor of Arts program, 90.08% for Canadians and 88.66% for international applicants to the Bachelor of Education program, 92.83% for Canadians and 92.56% for international applicants to the Bachelor of Engineering program, and 92.89% for Canadians and 91.72% for international applicants to the Bachelor of Science program. You would, of course, have to find a way to convert the letter grades or 4.0 GPA system grades used in the United States to a percentage mark, which is still used in Canada.

Highschool marks to get into UBC engineering?

Now, for UBC:

Math 12
Chem12
Phys12
Eng12

Dont worry about Biology, its not needed for the engineering program.

Now for physics, you definitely need to increase your mark, to, I would say atleast, 85-90. depending on what you have in the other courses.

Now dont worry if you dont get in now, you can go to capilano U, kwantlen, or langara, who have the same first-year eng as UBC, get a 2.5 GPA and then transfer to UBC.

If you take phys. in summer school, it will be too late to transfer your new marks to UBC.

On ther other hand, you may want go into Science, and then transfer.

What GPA do you need to transfer to UBC Okanagan Arts?

Hi Bikaramjit,
If you have completed less than 24 transferable credits, you will need to meet the admission requirements and competitive averages for both transfer applicants and high school applicants. More information is available on our website: https://you.ubc.ca/ubc/okanagan/postsec.ezc#eligible.

From what you've described above, it does sound likes your grades are within the range of consideration for admission as a transfer student into Arts at UBC's Okanagan campus. You can see general ranges for admission here for transfer: https://you.ubc.ca/ubc/counsellors/gpa.ezc and here for high school: https://you.ubc.ca/ubc/counsellors/averages.ezc. if you have further questions about admission, feel free to stop by our Facebook page where advisors are answering questions daily: www.facebook.com/youbc.

My average is 82, will I get into UBC?

I am going to assume you’re referring to undergraduate admissions. If so, the minimum grades depend on the area you want to get your degree in. First, it also depends on where you did your high school in and what curriculum and/or your major examination boards are in. UBC has a comprehensive guideline on minimum averages designated for each country where you did your previous studies in. Alongside good grades, UBC also looks for creativity, passion and desire from its students. If you can demonstrate very well what you want to accomplish with a degree, what your career goals are and some examples/cases where you have shown enough motivation, I am sure you will get into UBC.If you’re getting into Engineering, you will be enrolled with other Engineering students and based on your first year performance you will be given the choice to get into the Engineering program you want. Engineering Physics is the toughest followed by Electrical & Computer Eng.If you’re an international student, you must get good scores in your IELTS/TOEFLS.Just a word - admissions can be competitive. Review the admission requirements well before and aim to achieve them.Wish you very good luck!

Getting Into UBC (University Of British Columbia)?

Hey John

Students seeking admission to UBC's Faculty of Medicine must complete at least three full years in the Faculty of Science or in the Faculty of Arts at UBC or at another university in the province of British Columbia or Canada before applying to the Faculty of Medicine.

Entrance to UBC's Faculty of Medicine is both limited and competitive, and all applicants to the medical program must complete the Medical College Admission Test before applying. At this point in time, the first year entering class to Medicine is limited to about 256 full-time students.

Visit this link for more info > http://www.med.ubc.ca/education/md_ugrad...

To be admissible to UBC Sciences, which is the most typical path to Medical School, students are required to present both Physics and Chemistry 11 and then one science at the grade 12 level.

Admission to UBC is competitive. For specific admission requirements for UBC's Vancouver campus, visit https://you.ubc.ca/ubc/vancouver/cdnhs.e... and select BC and Yukon.

For UBC's Okanagan campus, visit https://you.ubc.ca/ubc/okanagan/cdnhs.ez...

While academics form the primary basis of admission to UBC, we encourage all applicants to provide us with supplemental information about activities and achievements outside of the classroom. Sometimes this information is required for the evaluation, (as is the cause for all applicants to the Sauder School of Business). In other cases, the information is used to supplement what the transcript tells us about your performances and may also be used in scholarship determination.

Details on UBC’s supplemental application for the Vancouver campus can be found at: https://you.ubc.ca/ubc/vancouver/bba.ezc

For UBC's Okanagan campus: https://you.ubc.ca/ubc/okanagan/bba.ezc

Hope that's a start :) If you have any further questions you can always ask the UBC student advisors on our Facebook page > www.facebook.com/youbc

All the best!

Can I get into UBC as a transfer student with an 80% average?

Hello.

Transferring from college to university is easier than what most think. I know plenty of students who've transferred into UBC with averages in the 70's. If you have a specific faculty, program, or department, please contact UBC to find out the requirements for that specifically. However, with a 80% I'm sure you can get into the majority of the faculties at UBC.

Calculate interim admission average?

Hi Swanny,
It's hard to make sure I cover all the details without knowing which country or province you are studying in, but from looking at your past questions it seems like you might be a BC high school student. For UBC, we'll calculate your admission average based on 4 grade 12 academic courses, always including English 12 and any other academic courses required for your program (such as Principles of Math 12 for Commerce). You can see the courses required for your program here for the Vancouver campus: https://you.ubc.ca/ubc/vancouver/bcyt.ezc or here for the Okanagan campus: https://you.ubc.ca/ubc/okanagan/bcyt.ezc.

If you repeat courses, we'll use your best mark available. For courses in progress, we'll use the most recent official grade available to us through either the Ministry of Education or your school report card. Currently, we do not use grade 11 courses in calculating your average for BC students, but for students from other provinces or countries, we may use grade 11 grades for courses where an equivalent grade 12 grade is not available yet. Non-academic courses are not included within your calculation. You can see our lists of official academic courses on the links above.

If you have any other questions about UBC, feel free to stop by our Facebook page, where we have advisors answering questions daily: www.facebook.com/youbc.

Thanks,

What are the chances of getting into the University of BC/Alberta and Queen’s for an academically average student from Nepal, for undergrads in B.Com?

UBC typically accepts students with an average of 92–93% into Sauder (the business school). In addition to having a high average you're also going to need a stellar personal profile (the short essay questions that supplement the application). Where you're applying from doesn't factor in too much, what's relevant is that you're applying as an international student as opposed to a domestic student. If you have an extremely high average (remember 92–93% is the average), and take the time to fill out your personal profile well, then you have a good chance.

What are my chances at BU and UBC?

Canadian and American University admission processes are very different. Canadian University's wieght academic credentials extremely high, while the U.S private school's weight everything evenly.

Your almost sure fire into UBC, if you manage to pull the 30 ACT (1950 SAT). UBC weights a lot on G.P.A. Sauder is a little different, a bit more american but I'm fairly sure your going to get a spot.

Boston university and similar prestigious private schools that aren't as competitive as the IVY league are still quite competitive. They wieght all your credentials and for the average applicant (the guys who meet the average G.P.A for the school and average test scores, who don't have famous parents) your secondary portfolio is important, especially teacher recommendations, essays. The extra carriculars are going to play a role here. The truth is though there really is no telling your chances unless your in the auto reject pile (which your not). The key to getting into getting into these quality schools is you apply to 5 or so that are similar that you like and count on getting into one or two.

I will say this UBC and Boston University are two very very different schools. American undergrad education especially in private school's like boston tend to be lots of small class sizes, discussion groups, and the schools are more flexible UBC and the big canadian Universities (Utoronto, and Mcgill) tend to be a bit european. You'll spend more time in large lecture halls, and break up for smaller mandatory discussion groups. Your major is less flexible because your likely to take more courses related to your major than you will in a U.S program. (Engineering being a bit of an exception, specialty programs an exception). Don't get me wrong. The quality of education at the top canadian universities are very good, but the system is very very different.

best of luck
