Why can't the brothels in India be raided and shut down?
Closing brothels is not so simple at least in India’s context.There are patterns and life style similarity in people who visit these brothels in many parts of the country be it North,East,west or South.There are several reasons for it. First to be honest major parts of India remain patriarchal and the dowry system results in killing or abandoning baby girls..Simply baby girls are regarded more as a burden and add to that the tentacles of poverty…So (many many )men from Hindi heartland and other places spend most of their time away from their native places and lives in cities and towns with no families and spends their time in sharing arrangement with others in small rooms..Wife and kids remain in villages where they go to visit twice or thrice a year( A true and sad fact)Fast forward a few years after earning some decent money ,even if they bring back their families ,they hardly meet their needs meet…and live a tough life..now we have truck drivers ,the life line of India’s economy-and to be honest brothels are the only place they can have sex for most of the year and if you go on to visit famous brothels-truck divers and people in similar occupation form a majority of the customers…PEOPLE who visit these places are mainly outcasts and so are the prostitutes and now as there is a long demand for these kind of businesses,enter the politicians and Police..These people gets good money ,lots of pimps work under the blessing of political big shots and the mainstream society turns a blind eye..EASY MONEY!!and in a bitter way..in a country like India where the reach of the law is not that long,Brothels are here to stay and they resemble darker side of our society where so many in society live in fringes…Brothels are a symptoms of a problem very much ingrained in our society.
How do I handle the police legally if I get caught in a red light area (India)?
It is very difficult unless you have tons of money to greese the palms of the officials. The amount could range from tens of thousands to a few lacks depending on the greed of the police station incharge of the area. If you don't pay up,then you will be carted away to the police station. At the police station they won't allow you to contact your lawyer or family. They would torture you like crazy with severe beatings, broken bones, electric shocks etc. They may also falsely implicate you in a human trafficking case by forcefully getting a confession. As pimps and brothel owners pay hefty bribes ( at least 50000 to 1 lakh a month) the police won't disturb them hence the police find customers(who are unable to cough up a hefty sum) as a good substitute to implicate. If you are booked in such a case you may come on the newspaper. Your name reputation will get spoilt and if you are proven guilty by court be prepared to cool your heels in prison for 3 yrs or 7 yrs if the girls were minor. So unless you have a few lacs to risk incase you are caught, dont even come 1 km near a red light area.
Where can I find brothels in Rome? ?
let me say that i'm girl so i'm not that much into such things,but i'm from rome and i do have eyes,so there are things i can tell you.... brothels are illegal in italy,there are some of high level,very expensive in downtown,but they're like "elitaire" and I have never been curious enough to ask where exactly they are. but there are many (I'd say TOO many) girls "working" on our streets, most of them are from eastern europe,they're mostly under-aged and have a family far from rome and they're "bosses" would kill it all if they don't prostitute or if they try to escape...Said that, and underling the fact that a recent new law made many prostitute disappear since both them and the client would have to pay a fine if caught (thing that the police say happens frequently but i don't trust them), i can tell you that in a neighborhood near midtown called "Acqua Acetosa" there are many viados,which are Brazilian guys pretending to be girls (and very likely to be),in "Via Salaria" there are (all day long,not just at nights) many young girls usually almost completely naked,sometimes with just bra and panties,some others without...for what i saw they looked mostly pretty,which i assumed means they are more expensive,but i'm not too sure about that. the most famous neighborhood for what's about prostitution is claimed to be "Tor di quinto",where there are mostly italian women (about 40-50 yrs old). I really can't tell u anything about prices....but remember that it is absolutely illegal in italy going with a prostitute....
Do the police in India have the right to raid a massage parlour and arrest the clients, as well?
Massage Parlors if are doing their legitimate business under requisite permits, the Police have no reason to bother them. But now a days most of such massage parlors are operating as brothels under the garb of such massage parlors. If the Police get a tip of about such places, the police will send a dummy client with marked currency notes with instructions to pass a pre-assigned signal to raiding party waiting nearby once the deal for a girl is struck. After getting the signal the Police storm the place and take custody of the parlor operator and the marked currency is recovered from his personal possession or from cash drawer. One of the raiding party officer must have special powers under SITA Act to raid and or search such places. This mandatory requirement is complied with as Police officers in special branches dealing with such offences are always equipped with such powers. At Police station level the DSP/ACP are empowered for such action. This may vary from State to State. The girl doing such acts at Parlors are not arrested but are taken into custody and sent to Rescue Homes till they are settled back to relatives and or as per court orders. If the girls found at such places are below the age of 21 years, the crimes becomes serious.Such girls are treated as minor girls and rescued for safe custody. The clients are not normally arrested unless they are found in possession of some incriminating articles like drugs, liquors, prohibited weapons etc. The main culprit in such cases is the Operator of the Parlor who is legally termed as the Brother Keeper and living on the earnings of prostitution
Can someone be arrested for visiting a brothel in India?
Prostitution in India is illegal .Brothels are not legalised in India .If u are caught having sex , you will be arrested and prosecuted for immoral trafficking.Visiting a brothel doesn't mean only for sex , could be for various reasons .
