What Can I Do About An Oversized Jaw

I am having an oversized lower jaw, is it possible to operate it without having any scars on the face?

Of course!!!The corrections for oversized jaws or for aligning mal-aligned jaws is done by different techniques which are all categorised under “orthognathic surgery”.These procedures are specifically designed to be done through cuts placed within the oral cavity. The only exception is when the oversized lower jaw is due to some specific issues in the lower jaw joint (over growth/oversize/over length etc;). In those cases, the ideal access is via cuts made on the skin. But these are well hidden and should not be of concern.Feel free to write for more info. And I will try to answer as soon as I can.

Why is my left jaw bigger than the right jaw?

Here is an answer I wrote earlier, although you are an opposite side the answer holds trueThe left side of MOST peoples faces are less developed than the right. I know that is hard to believe but when you are trained at facial orthopaedics or orthodontics you start to notice these things. When you have measured and plotted as many faces as I have you will see it quite easily. If you look at people you will see two major asymmetries, the left eye is set back from the right eye usually and the left ramus is usually shorter than the right. The ratio is about 60L:40R. These numbers are from my teacher Bob Kernott and are based on his patient records. I doubt they were ever published. It may have something to do with handedness and eye dominance, I am not sure. Bob thought it might be so but it was not data that he recorded. If yours is noticeable or extreme then go find a dentist who can work to make you more symmetrical. However it may be easier to get used to it and stop obsessing about it.For sure don’t go around telling everybody. One of the prettiest girls I ever met when I was a young man was a young Scottish lass. But after she had pointed out to me her facial asymmetry, I always felt a bit sorry for the poor wee twisted thing.43 Views ·

Is there a correlation between jaw size and eyesight?

Yes, there is also correlation to where eyes are placed, if you're  prey; ie impala, Deers, Giraffes your  eyes placed on the side of your head, for better range ( not vision ) but better range of vision. So they can watch out for the beasts that prey on them (lions, hyenas etc)  Prey usually eats greens. Us meat eaters have eyes placed side by side and with better vision and bigger jaw psi then our prey. However evolution has not caught up to the times, or humans wouldn't be born with wisdom teeth (from when we needed bigger jaws)  and soon our babies will be born with eyes further apart. I was born without wisdom teeth at all, a sign of evolution.

How do you get a sharp jawline?

This is my first answer ever on here so don't be too harsh haha. So honestly it mostly comes down to 2 things. The first being good genetics. While the second is just being overall healthy. Here's a shot of my whole face:I'm 19 in this picture. I hit it pretty late but puberty finally caught up, my face starting maturing, and while the lighting isn't the best you can still see. Now here's one I took just a few weeks ago just 6 months later:(Yea yea I know very dramatic. I'm a loser haha)My face definitely got more defined as I aged into it. Luckily I've always been able to be physically fit and healthy, so that definitely helps too as it cuts down on the chub on your face. I know people who will shave their beard around it just so they can kinda “draw onto something to make it seem like something's there” I also know that because of numerous mental disorders I have, I constantly mess with my lips and the insides of my cheek, (moving and working my jaw/cheek muscles) I chewed a ton of gum as a kid because of the same reason. But I assume that it would take years of shaping and such. It's definitely taken me a good bit of time, and I'm still working at issues with it. But one thing I found was, with confidence, you're more attractive than what a “sharp jawline” can do for you. Self confidence, without going overboard, can open up way more happiness and opportunities than anything appearance wise can. Best to you though :)

Is Jaws supposed to be a Great White or a Megalodon shark?

I'm sitting here watching "Jaws 3" right now. In the movie, the mother shark is supposed to be 35 feet long. According to Wikipedia, it says the shark in Jaws is a great white...but, my late husband said he watched a special once in which Steven Spielburg said it's a megalodon shark.

Standard great white sharks are said to get as large as 19-21 feet. Can someone help me settle this? I have a little bet going on with my Dad. THANKS!!

Can anyone explain to me the mechanics of a sabertooth cat's jaws?

Smilodon is most famous for its relatively long canines, which are the longest found in the saber-toothed cats, at about 28 cm (11 in) long in the largest species Smilodon populator.

These canine teeth were fragile and could not have bitten into bone; thus, these cats did not use their long teeth while taking down prey, due to the risk of breaking them. Only when their prey was totally subdued did they use their teeth to simultaneously sever the blood supply and strangle the windpipe, quickly killing the prey.[10]

Despite being more powerfully built than other large cats, Smilodon actually had a weaker bite. Modern big cats have more pronounced zygomatic arches, while Smilodon had smaller zygomatic arches which restricted the thickness and therefore power of the temporalis muscles, and thus reduced Smilodon’s bite force. Analysis of its narrow jaws indicates it could produce a bite only a third as strong as that of a lion.[11] There seems to a be a general rule that the saber-toothed cats with the largest canines had proportionally weaker bites. However, analyses of canine bending strength (the ability of the canine teeth to resist bending forces without breaking) and bite forces indicate the saber-toothed cats' teeth were stronger relative to the bite force than those of modern "big cats".[12] In addition, Smilodon could open its jaws 120 degrees, whereas the lion's gape is limited to 60 degrees.[13][14]

It has been suggested that Smilodon's smaller temporalis muscles (controlling much of the bite force) were not used in the killing of prey; rather, Smilodon stretched its jaws around the throat and pressed its canines into the prey with the use of its immense neck and forelimb muscles. The penetration was the result of the neck flexors instead of the jaw muscles, according to this hypothesis.

Why do many black people have upper jaws, and hence teeth, that protrude significantly?

Well, black people are the people native to Africa. Africa is a place of extremely high genetic diversity, so you see things like this. Outside of this trait, there are lots of other features to black people. It's a pretty abstract race, from what I have read. Now, as far as scientific racism is concerned, it looks like this is a trait inherited from ancient homonids, and a sign of a smaller brain. This is actually not provable, and has been hotly argued against by reputable scientists whom come from very rationalistic points of view. Do not let impressionism ever beat determinism, trust me.

What does malaligned anterior teeth both in upper and lower jaws mean?

Malalignment or malocclusion means teeth are not in their properlocation, positionThis will hamper the basic functioning of tooth and also esthetics (anterior teeth).Based on type of malalignment the treatment differs. Malocclusion is broadly divided into:SkeletalDentalCommon types of dental malalignment are:Diastema (gap between incisors)Deep biteCross bite (over lapping)Rotation (twisted tooth)CrowdingAll these will be successfully treated by orthodontist based on degree of severity, age, and esthetics

Jaw/Facial pain 2 weeks 1 day after all 4 wisdom teeth extracted, is this normal?

It has been a nightmare for me trying to recover from my wisdom teeth extraction. Apparently the two lower were "badly impacted" and were difficult to remove. I still have some jaw pain on the right side which was the worst to remove, the pain appears to be at the joint and radiates through my jaw. I don't believe it is the extraction hole that is causing the pain. My cheecks also feel slightly swollen and tender to the touch. My cheecks were pretty tore up after the procedure. Just want to know if this is normal, I am trying to get by on 800mg of Ibuprofen but still need a pain killer occassionaly. I whent back to the Dr. for pain about 1 week after they said It may be a dry socket and packed the hole, it helped a little but still had jaw pain. Any advice or experiences are appreciated, the pain is not excrutiating any more but enough to drive me crazy, and wonder if it is normal. Thanks.
