What Can I Do If My 10 Year Old Dog Is Having Diarrhea With Blood In It I Cannot Afford A Vet

My 1.5 year old cat has bloody mucus diarrhea. What can I do?

This sounds like something is going on in the intestines, I suspect a parasitic infection. The two primary causes that I can think of that show both blood and mucus in the stool with related pain and loose stools are giardia and tritrichomonas foetus.Giardia is pretty easily treated and can be seen on a fecal test with a microscope (your vet can do this in office). Treated with Panacur or Metronidazole (some 30% of Giardia infections do not respond to Metronidazole).Tritrichomonas foetus is tougher to treat but is curable, detection usually (but not always) requires a fecal PCR test (about $75 and need to be sent off to a lab). Not every vet knows a lot about tritrichomonas, it is a somewhat newer disease in cats (it is actually a cattle venereal diseases that has jumped in to cats in the last 10 or so years) and so you may need to bring some supplemental information to share with the vet on treatment options. This parasite CAN be seen under microscope, but it is really tough to tell from Giardia by this method unless it is alive from a fresh sample.Tritrichomonas foetus infection in catsIf this is a GI infection, please be aware that cats shedding virus are highly contagious, so try to keep him and his droppings away from other cats until you have a diagnosis. It is possible that one or both of these can cause inflammatory bowel syndrome in susceptible cats after it has been cured. You may need to consider additional nutritional support afterward if this happens. A partial raw diet would make a difference if things go that way.

What do I do if my Dog ate fish bones and has bloody diarrhea, and not eating?

Fish bones? Well I would think that the fish bones were digested, but scratched and irritated the inside lining of either the stomach or intestines, causing blood to come with the diarrhea. The diarrhea may be a cause of the fish bones. If it doesn't clear up in a day or so, I would see a vet.

My Dog is not eating and has Diarreah? I can't take Him to a vet so what should I do?

"Home Treatment of Diarrhea

The most important step in treating acute diarrhea is to rest the GI tract by withholding all food for 24 hours. The dog should be encouraged to drink as much water as he wants. With persistent diarrhea, consider giving a supplemental electrolyte solution such as Pedialyte, available over the counter in pharmacies and grocery stores. Dilute it by one-half with water and add it to the dog's drinking bowl. Custom canine electrolyte solutions and sport drinks are also available, such as K9 Thirst Quencher. These are flavored to encourage the dog to drink. If the dog won't drink the electrolyte solution, offer only water. A low-salt bouillon cube dissolved in the water can help encourage him to drink.

Acute diarrhea usually responds within 24 hours to intestinal rest. Start the dog out on an easily digestible diet that's low in fat. Examples are boiled hamburger (one part drained meat to two parts cooked rice) and boiled chicken with the skin removed. Cooked white rice, cottage cheese, cooked macaroni, cooked oatmeal, and soft-boiled eggs are other easily digestible foods. Feed three or four small meals a day for the first two days. Then slowly switch the diet back to the dog's regular food.

Obtain immediate veterinary care if:

The diarrhea continues for more than 24 hours
The stool contains blood or is black and tarry
The diarrhea is accompanied by vomiting
The dog appears weak or depressed or has a fever"

My puppy is having diarrhea, throwing up and haven't ate for 2 days now?

if your puppy has not been fully vaccinated against parvo and had the vaccines properly boostered by a veterinarian i would very seriously consider that your pet has parvo. parvo is a very serious virus that attacks the intestional track of the dog. it can cause severe vomiting and bloody diarrhea. without proper treatment at a vet (staying in hospital with IV fluids and medication) most pets have less than 10% chance of living. if your dog has never been checked for worms, he may have worms on top of parvo which would bring his chances of survival down. if your dog does not make it i would assume he had parvo and DO NOT bring any unvaccinated dog into area for over a year (yes, it can live in enviroment for over a year) it is transmitted through infected poo and vomit of sick dog-can wash in your yard from rain, your dog can get it from going on a walk or just playing in front yard. try to keep your dog hydrated with pedialyte and keep him clean and warm hopefully he can fight off whatever is causing his illness and hopefully it is only an upset stomach not something worse

Blood in dog stool? No money for vet bills?

My dog has been having blood in his stool. The poop itself is a caramel color, very formed and hard. Then when he is pooping , he yelps that high pitched cry when a dog is getting hurt. So i'm guessing its hurting him. I have no money for vet bills at the time....what should i do?

Puppy has parvo but NO diarrhea.?

Considering yesterday you admitted you can't afford the vet how the hell do you know this pup has parvo? Honestly for as long as you have had this pup odds are its something else. PARVO would have killed her by now in your care.

I am done being upset with your endless stream of questions that involve your sick puppies that you KNOW you cannot afford to take care of properly. STOP ******* COLLECTING ANIMALS. They are not going to fix what is wrong in your goddamn life and head.

Get up on monday and take them ALL to your nearest no kill. ALL of them even the damn ferret you just got. Then get some professional help. You are sick young woman but this needs to stop. That or you need to take a hint and realize that most of us know you and your history too well to feel pity for you.

My dog is bleeding from her butt!!?

it just started today she still seems playful and she eats fine and shes not throwing up or having diarrhea. shes perfectly normal except for her bleeding. is it too early to tell if its parvo??? or is it something else??? is there anyway to help my dog at home??

taking her to a vet isn't really an option for my family since the economy is hitting us hard and my parents are really traditional, they don't find pets as an important part of our family or worth spending a lot of money on... if it gets worse I don't know what'll happen. my siblings and I love her to death its literally making me cry writing this please help.

Is it possible for our dog (Shih-tzu) to survive the disease "parvo"?

In our practice we encourage owners to have their dogs hospitalized and placed on iv fluids when we diagnose parvo. Some owners cannot afford this type of treatment so they use subcutaneous (under the skin) fluids, antibiotics, and drugs to help stop the vomiting at home. With very small dogs like yours, hypoglycemia is a big complication of parvo. Glucose can only be given IV or orally
(which doesn't do any good when the dog is vomiting). The prognosis is always better for dogs hospitalized and placed on iv fluids than treated at home. The prognosis for your dog depends on many things including the strain of parvo causing the disease because some strains are more severe than others. Also pups that have had 1 or 2 vaccines tend to have milder disease than those with no vaccinations. The next few days will be the hardest. The virus has to run it's course. The antibiotics will not do anything for the virus but they are necessary. Parvo causes the white blood cell count of the pup to decrease dramatically and then they are susceptible to other infections, Fluids are very important because the cause of death in parvo is dehydration. Oral fluids are not effective if the puppy is vomiting they have to be given IV or SubQ. Good luck. BTW the incubation period of parvo is usually 7-10 days so if you have had your pup less than 7 days he was probably infected when you purchased him and you should discuss it with the breeder.

My dog hasn't had any of her shots, not even when she was a puppy. How long does she have before she dies, she's almost 2 years old?

You've kept the dog for 2 years without tending to its medical needs, so I doubt fussing at you to do the right thing will do any good at this point. Hence I'll skip that part.Without vaccines, your dog is open to rabies, distemper, parvovirus, leptospirosis, hepatitis, influenza, bordetella, and a host of other nasties. Rabies in particular is brutal, unforgiving, and typically lethal. Parvovirus is a slow, agonizing death that includes what we colloquially call "bloody blowouts". Not something you want to smell or see or clean up. Distemper is similar to rabies and is also very painful. Shall I keep going? The dog may live a full life of ten, twelve, fifteen years or more. But it's not likely, to be frank. If you've neglected vaccines, then I doubt your dog is on preventive against heartworm or any other parasites either. Seen heartworm treatment? It's essentially low-dose arsenic, enough to kill the worms without (hopefully) killing the host. The patient is literally poisoned within inches of death for an extended period of time.If you cannot afford proper medical care for an animal, then give the animal to someone who can. Otherwise, be prepared for your dog to be open to virtually any disease out there. It's not a question of "If", but of "When".
