How long does it take to get good at acting?

There is little doubt that becoming an actress takes many hours of hard work. But the question is exactly how long.

I think what is most important is your ability to take risks and not be self conscious If you can do that, the freedom you have on camera or on stage will help you achieve success faster. I think this is what most people consider being a "natural".

What is a great way to take up acting in your free time?

Join a school, church or local theater but when you say ‘free time,’ you’d better have plenty of it. Rehearsing for a play is a seven day a week, 6 pm to 11 pm schedule for probably a month before performance starts. After performance starts you have to be there for every performance, an amateur production usually starts at 8pm Friday, Saturday and Sunday with a matinee about 3 pm on Sunday. As a ‘hobby’ acting is very demanding on time and family. It is not something like golf or tennis where if you don’t feel like going you can just cancel your appointment. If you are only the guy selling hotdogs during the beach scene, the entire cast is relying on you to be there. There are no casual actors.

I love acting, but I'm scared to take acting classes?

Hi okay so let me explain what happened, I took an acting class near me and I had the worst experience. Before the class I was very confident and super happy to take it. so I'm 15 and I went in and the whole class was filled with 20+ aged people - which terrified me. I was the youngest one and everyone was so judgmental and staring at me. Nobody was friendly. The teacher was terrible, he was telling us to BS our resumes and he was the type to pick on everyone and try to embarrass you. So all we did in the class was cold read, and it was a beginners class and he gave us scripts from the movie Schindler's list - which I thought was kind of difficult for my first time. When it was my time to go up I did terrible, I kept looking down at the script because it was kinda complicated script from a huge movie, and everyone was staring at me, and whenever I was trying to focus, the teacher kept interrupting me to stop looking at the script and it was stressing me out. Truthfully, I'm very good at acting but under these circumstances I wanted to cry after that class. They just give beginners complicated scripts and expect you to read it perfectly the first time you see it?? Now I'm scared to take another acting class, and I was really just hoping to boost my confidence in front of people but that class ruined it. I just want to know if all acting classes are intimidating like this, because truly I love acting and performing in front of people but this made everything worse.

Why does a person take up the career of acting?

I believe acting is not just a career or art but also a form of rigorous mental exercise. To act happy when you are sad or calm when you are angry is a kind of sense of achievement. It is a skill that gets better with more practice. Some people begin to realize this skill and try to experiment with it. It is the art of controlling and manipulating emotions. It gives a person a sense of mental superiority over others and it is different from arrogance. Some people do get arrogant though. And those who don’t enjoys this hidden mental power. This art of controlling and manipulating emotions is addictive for some. They try different emotions under different scenarios, try to copy a person, create an entirely new personality, etc. The more they do it the more they want it like drugs. Some people want to keep doing this drug for their entire life and some want to earn money and get famous and thus they take up acting as a career.

I've been thinking of taking up acting for a hobby but I've never done any, therefore I'm not sure if I'd be good at it. I think it might boost my confidence. What should I do?

Take a class. And do not be cowed by anyone. Each teacher will likely be completely different, but when I took classes, the teacher stated (and this is not only true of acting) that it took more effort to unlearn a wrong approach than to learn the approach he taught. One person dropped out quickly … he thought that imitating an action hero was “acting”.The system I was taught was basically that of trying to sell the individual you were interacting with, and seeking their likely reaction. For emotions, one would use “sense memory” … the audience can not know whether you are crying over a dead pet or a dead child… only that you are showing a genuine emotion. He did not love “community theater” actors … he felt one should not “swallow lines” (James Dean barely projected words), nor should one stress “guaranteed laugh” lines.Oh, and do not be too quiet. In Grand Central Terminal, I watched some filming, and the boom mic had a sign “A GOOD actor is a LOUD actor.”Your class will be entirely different, but take it. And whatever you do, remember the other folks were just as cowed as you are!

Ford Conosiuers!!!! My ford Escape is acting up?

Ford Conosiuers!!!! My ford Escape is acting up?
I have a 2001 ford Escape with a v6 and is a 4x4. The check engine light is on even after I changed an oxygen sensor that Auto Zone diagnosed was the problem and they used their ob2 reader. The code was a P1151. My car gets horrible gas mileage and is gutless. It also idles irratically when I pull up to a stop sign. It also shifts awkward now. It will shift into a higher gear for example when Im driving up a hill instead of a lower gear to get the RPMs up and and it will kind of bog down until I press the accelerator to get it to shift and get my RPMs up again. Could it be my catalytic converter or my Throttle body air regulator.
Why didn't my check engine light go off and why is my car still acting this way. What can I do to fix this without taking it in to the dealer cuase Im kind of broke. Anyones help is greatly appreciated. thanks
