What Can I Do With My Fashion Degree

What can you do with a fashion degree?

With a degree in fashion design, you could work for a design house as a designer or an assistant designer, or you could do another job in fashion - fashion stylist, journalist, fashion magazine editor. You could manage a high end boutique, become a buyer for Macy's. You could work in fashion-related marketing or PR... lots of possible options.

For a lot of those, you start low and work your way up. In some cases, like journalism, you'd probably want to do a dual major - journalism/English and fashion, or at least minor in the other subject.

In all cases, you absolutely want to do an internship in that field while you study. That will be key to your ability to enter the field when you graduate. You also want to do as much career-related work on campus as you possibly can - join related clubs, and be active in them.

You also want to go to a respectable school, so no "Westwood College Online". Instead, you go to Kent State, Parsons, Fashion Institute of Technology, Drexel, Otis College of Art, RISD, U Cincinnatti or similar - someplace with a good rep in fashion.

Business or fashion degree?

Hello I'm in taking pre req at a city college. I'm confused whether to major in business or get my fashion degree in merchandising. Business would be because I want to open up or lease rent out a small area to sell my designed swim wear cause I'm planning on launching a swim wear line or online store. And fashion design on because I want to have more knowledge on merchandise and selling promoting etc. which would be better?

After I get a bachelor's degree in fashion design, should I get a job or continue my education?

personally i wanted to do my masters in Styling at Polimoda Florence directly after graduating from ESMOD Beirut, but then i changed my mind,I don't want to be a stylist, i want to get better at being a fashion designer so by summer I'm gonna start looking for internships, it would be better for me , to get different experiences from many designers , it will improve my CV and portfolio. after that i'm gonna try opening my own brand. If you want to be a fashion designer it's better to get an experience before doing your masters, but if you want to do fashion marketing , digital printing or stuff like that i think it's better for you to directly get your masters(if you really know what you want) and then start looking for internships or jobs in your field. And if you don't know what you really want to do after getting a degree in fashion design, i think it's better for you to do different internships in different things till you know clearly what you want.

Can I get into law school with a fashion degree?

Sure. As has been said, you’ll just need to take the LSAT to be eligible to go to law school.Beyond that simple baseline, you’ll need to do well in your undergraduate courses and on the LSAT in order to attend the “best” schools (i.e., those at the top of the U.S. News & World Report Law School Rankings). Those two metrics are the most important, followed by your personal statement and letters of recommendation. It’s generally accepted that your college major matters less than whether you actually did well in your courses. That said, I think your fashion degree is interesting in that it can help separate you from other candidates. Most law students don’t have your background; rather, they often major in political science, history, English, economics, philosophy or something similar. Personally, I didn’t know anyone at my law school that had a background in fashion. So you should consider leveraging your untraditional background and interests by discussing them in your personal statement. Law schools are aiming for diverse classes, so I think there’s an argument that you may get some (albeit, small) benefit by speaking about how you’ll use your law degree in the fashion world. Still, nothing will replace a stellar LSAT score and undergrad GPA. By nailing those, you’ll maximize the chances of going to your dream law school.Check out my website to learn more about law school and legal practice.

Do I need a degree in fashion design to get a job or launch my own line?

No, but it helps in getting a job in design directly out of school. I didn't get a degree in design, but knew I wanted a career in it. I had to strategically work my way into design, taking a longer, lateral route through production. Working in production as a collaborative partner with design taught me about design operations and expectations. I learned a lot about fabrics and construction, and at night spent a lot of time sketching ideas, eventually teaching myself how to use illustrator and photoshop. I bought myself a sewing machine, watched a ton of sewing and patternmaking tutorials on YouTube, and built a nice little capsule collection to supplement hand & CAD sketches/flats for my portfolio. When I felt ready, I quit my job in production and interviewed for design positions, eventually landing a sweet role at a global fashion brand. Whether you're going for a job or want to start your own thing, I think the most important things are to have great taste, a fascination for fashion design, and the hunger and drive to achieve what you set out to do. It was a hard, frustrating process at times, but in the end it was all worth it. I've never been happier at a job. Now I love what I do, and very few days actually feel like "work".  Good Luck :)

College degrees, fashion journalist, nyu/mizzou?

Hey:
I am currently a sophomore in high school and am trying to get ahead on the college decision i will have to face soon next year. I would like to be a fashion journalist or something of the sort. I have had a lot of success with writing so far in my high school career but my real love is fashion. I hope being a fashion journalist will be a happy medium.

I still do not know much about college,(undergraduate/graduate/years) but so far my idea is to get an undergraduate degree from NYU in fashion design through the Tisch School, and a graduate degree in journalism (specializing in fashion magazine), at mizzou.

What do you think about my plan?
Do you think I can get the undergraduate degree from NYU in 2 years?
Do you think I can get the graduate degree from missou in 4 years or less?
Will it be worth the time and money to do both?
any other ideas?
