What Can I Expect If I Move To Atlanta Ga From Hatford Ct

What's the climate like in Atlanta, Georgia?

No. Very rarely does it ever snow in Atlanta and if it does it is usually a dusting of snow in January. We barely have winter here either. My guess is the weather is a lot like where you live in Australia. If you are looking for Winter type weather I would suggest looking into moving to the Northeast such as Boston, Massachuesetts or Hartford, Connecticut or maybe somewhere out west like Denver, Colorado. Because you aren't going to really get any winter weather in Atlanta. We have very mild winters and very hot & humid summers.

How cheap could a graduate student rent an apartment in Atlanta?

Rents for a one bedroom, I'd say the average is about $650.That's between luxury and dump. There are tons of complexes, the cheap ones in a decent neighborhood would be on Buford highway, south, before Lenox. They are mostly lower end places, with Hispanic families. Buford Highway is a wide street with fast moving traffic, but it's a haven for new immigrants. The neighborhood would be Brookhaven. I might expect to pay around $400.In my complex, in a nicer part of Brookhaven a 1 bed would go for $650. We’re under construction, so there are deals to be had. We’re off of a major street with busses to MARTA.In Buckhead or Downtown, it would be closer to $800.In some neighborhoods there may be studios or mother-in-law suites.I know folks in Marrietta who have bedroom/bathroom with a separate entrance and kitchen privileges within walking distance to the town square, I think they charge $475 for it.Craigslist can be useful to see what's out there.

How many U.S. state capitals can you name from memory?

I can get most of them from memory. My working theory is that in public school at least, you learn US history up to the time when your state was established, then switch to state history. With elementary school in California and the rest through High School in Idaho, that meant I got a lot of US history! Here it goes, from memory (although I have also traveled to most of the US which also helps…* means I have at least driven through it, if not stayed there)—Juneau, AlaskaHonolulu, HawaiiOlympia, WashingtonSalem, Oregon*Sacramento, California*Boise, Idaho*Carson City, NevadaPhoenix, Arizona*Salt Lake City, Utah*Santa Fe, New MexicoHelena, Montana*Cheyenne, Wyoming*Denver, Colorado*Lincoln, Nebraska*Topeka, KansasOklahoma City, OklahomaAustin, TexasBismarck, North Dakota*Pierre, South DakotaSaint Paul, Minnesota*Madison, Wisconsin*Des Moines, Iowa*Saint Louis, Missouri*Little Rock, ArkansasBaton Rouge, LouisianaSpringfield, IllinoisIndianapolis, Indiana*Columbus, Ohio*Lansing, Michigan (sorely tempted to deliberately get it wrong since I live in Ohio right now…)Frankfort, KentuckyNashville, Tennessee*Jackson, Mississippi*Montgomery, Alabama*Tallahassee, Florida*Atlanta, Georgia*Columbia, South Carolina* (and not Charleston…that is West Virginia’s!)Raleigh, North Carolina*Richmond, Virginia*Annapolis, Maryland*Harrisburg, Pennsylvania (planning a trip to Hershey soon)Charleston, West Virginia*Albany, New YorkTrenton, New JerseyDover, Delaware (not Wilmington…that is just where major credit cards have their HQ due to favorable state and local laws for them) — and now I get to the region I have traveled in less…but on the home stretch—Providence, Rhode IslandHartford, ConnecticutBoston, MassachusettsMontpelier, VermontConcordia, New HampshireAugusta, MainePretty confident about most of those!

Why is Honolulu named Hawaii's state capital?

Well maybe it's just me but I dont understand your question but to give you so info on it ...

is not known when Honolulu was first settled by the original Polynesian migrants to the archipelago. Oral histories and artifacts indicate that there was a settlement where Honolulu now stands in the 12th century. However, after Kamehameha I conquered Oʻahu in the Battle of Nuʻuanu Pali, he moved his royal court from the Island of Hawaiʻi to Waikīkī in 1804. His court later relocated, in 1809, to what is now downtown Honolulu.

Captain William Brown of England was the first foreigner to sail, in 1794, into what is now Honolulu Harbor. More foreign ships would follow, making the port of Honolulu a focal point for merchant ships traveling between North America and Asia.

In 1845, Kamehameha III moved the permanent capital of the Hawaiian Kingdom from Lāhainā on Maui to Honolulu. He and the kings that followed him transformed Honolulu into a modern capital, erecting buildings such as St. Andrew's Cathedral, ʻIolani Palace, and Aliʻiolani Hale. At the same time, Honolulu became the center of commerce in the Islands, with descendants of American missionaries establishing major businesses in downtown Honolulu.

(Basicly is was an important port)
