How can I hang 1000lbs from my ceiling?
That’s like a V8 engine and automatic transmission together on a hoist. I would take a very close look at what is above the ceiling before designing a bracket for this purpose. What’s there may be sufficient to support wallboard on the ceiling and a few hundred pounds of person walking above, but not much else. For example: I would not suspend a 1000 pound weight from the middle of a 2x6 spanning a 12 foot wide room. Worst case would be catastrophic failure, but at best you would bow the rafter.

I'm staying with a friend right now and unfortunately his couch is very small. My solution is to hang my hammock in his living room. It can be taken down during the days, and put back up at night. Problem is, there is (as one would expect) no place to hang a hammock from in his living room. What kind of hooks would I need and what kind of tools to install them in order to hang my hammock in his living room, and have it be easily capable of holding all of my 260 pound?

Plants that heavy will bend the cross-bars that the ceiling panels lay on so you can't hang them from the panels or the cross-bars. You're going to have to hang the plants from the ceiling above the drop ceiling. I would look behind the panels for something to which I could secure a small chain or a wire. You may be able to run this support between the ceiling panels or you may have to poke a small hole in a panel to get the plant right where you want it.

They work okay but I'm worried that the icicle lights will be heavier, especially if they're hanging from the ceiling. If the ceiling joist is already carrying a bunch of weight, it maybe won’t take much more.Are you hanging from a single joist or from a rail that is connected to multiple joists? A single joist could have a structural flaw that makes it significantly weaker.Will the chairs hang from the center of the joist or from the edge of the joist? A joist can carry a lot more weight at the edge than at the center.How far is the joist spanning?
