What Can I Put On Sores For My Dog

How to take care of cast sores on my dog?

my puppy has a cast on and she has pretty bad cast sores. about a week into having the cast the vet had to put a new one on because it was rubbing her leg. now a week after that she has worse sores. it started bleeding today so we took her to an emergency vet and they said we could wait until monday when our regular vet opens and have a new cast put on. so my question is how do i prevent cast sores from developing. she has to have it on for another 2 weeks or so. the vet put a lot of padding on the second cast but it didnt make anything better. we try and keep her from running on it but its so hard since shes a puppy. would it even be worth asking the vet if its possible to put on a shorter cast. she only has a fractured toe and the cast goes all the way up her leg.

My dog has open sores on its ears. one at the top of each ear, i dont know what it is.?

If holes appeared in your skin would you smear on mineral oil or go see a doctor?

My dog is digging at herself and leaving sores?

Please, DON'T put pepper sauce on your dog - this would make the things FAR worse (and probably hurt like hell)!
Fleas aren't the only (and maybe even not the most common) reason for dog itching. This can certainly be allergy, I think they're are as common in dogs as they are in humans.
For a fast relief Benadryl can be a good idea (my 15 lbs sheltie was given 10mg once a day, you can figure a proper dosage for your dog using this as a guidance). This pill can make her sleepy or drowsy, so watch out for it.
The antihistamine is only a short term solution though and if this itching is really caused by allergy, you have to find the source of it.
Food allergies are common, my sheltie is allergic to wheat, which is a common pet food ingredient. We opt for rice and barley containing food instead (he doesn't take grain-free food well). I've heard lamb or dairy can be problems, too.
Contact allergies to various chemicals happen, too. My parents' late GS developed very serious allergy to pesticides used by our neighbors in their garden. The symptoms were just as you describe: he was really itchy and got bald patches along his spine.
Check for mats or tangles, the skin below them can get infected (so called "hot spot"), especially after the fur gets wet .
Bathing your dog with too hot water and/or using too harsh detergents can irritate dog's skin, too. But you can actually relieve itching (although only temporarily) with a COOL bath with colloidal oatmeal (like Aveeno or drugstore brand).
Adding more fatty acids to your dog's diet can also improve her skin condition (supplementing salmon oil made a huge difference to my dog).

Having said all that, the itch can still be caused by bacterial, fungal or parasite infection. If home remedies don't help you and your dog should see a vet (I'd recommend it in either case, anyway).

How should I treat my dog's abscess wound (+18)?

I'd advise you to get your dog to a vet asap. If you really can't, I'll tell you what I did in a similar situation (abscessed, suppurating wound near the neck, about 1,5–2 cm across) with my cat:The poor creature is likely terrorized and in pain, so pet it and try to keep it calm;-remove some fur from around the wound toexpose its margins (use rounded tips scissors to avoid doing damage if your dog moves suddenly).-clean the wound of pus and extraneous matter with a rough, sterile gauze and liberally apply disinfectant (hydrogen peroxide is perfect for dirty wounds); leave some time for the disinfectant to act. This is all very painful and stressful for an animal (my cat kept trying to run away), so keep it calm, pet it and speak to it in a soothing tone.-keep the wound open to the air if the dog lives inside or use an elastic, non sticking gauze to protect It if It lives outside.-clean and medicate the wound regularly (every couple hours for the First half a day, every 4–6 afterwards). Try to avoid your dog licking or scratching the wound; if you have one of those conical collars, put It on.-Apply some antibiotic cream on the wound or even better, give your dog oral antibiotics; even those for humans are ok, if you can't get anything else (I used amoxicillin); reduce dosage to account for your dog's weight. Ideally you will need an oral antibiotic in Powder form to mix in some light, tasty food you know your dog won't refuse. I'd advise calling a vet, if at all possible, to ask for dosage and compatibility. To be on the safe side, you could give your dog half the dose recommended for a human every 3–4 hours for a day or two.-give your dog plenty of water and some light food-if you see your dog behaving strangely or its temperature gets too high or the wound 's margines start turning dark contact a vet immediately; gangrene or a sistemic infection might be developing and there's little you could do in that case on your own. Likewise, contact a vet if the wound doesn't start healing by itself in 3–4 days.Best of luck, I hope your dog gets Better soon

If my dog has dry skin and open sores from scratching...Is it safe to use a flea shampoo on them?

You would do better to give them a bath with Dawn dish soap, or Ivory bar soap. It will kill the fleas, if you leave it on for just a few minutes, and then brush them will as they dry..flea shampoos are quite toxic, and too much might be absorbed with really sore skin.. then use one of the spot-on flea preventatives from the vet's clinic to make sure fleas don't come back, such as Revolution (my favorite) or Frontline, or Advanix...Many vets give the first treatment of Advantix or Revolution for free, so it would be wise to call around and see if your vets do...Both clinics in my town do, and my friend in another state told me her vet gave the first Revolution free..

My bullmastiff has open sores on his face?

first,,, i understand paycheck to paycheck.... so home remedies....... the other dogs are trying to help..... but you need to stop them,,,,,, keep the sores as clean as you can, wipe with clear water 10 times a day if you must... go get a box of sterile pads lint free.. like at the doctors office......and keep the sores clean.....most dog wounds need open air to heal......just watch thm closeley. if they are showing pus/ red// swelling/// this is infection..... and try to borrow some money for the vet..........he may need antibiotics...... also you can try neosporin, or store brand of it..........go and buy a ten dollar plastic. cone collar.......... put it on... cheaper than vet... keep the other dogs away from his face.....
