How do I make a stick incense holder?

You can make one from an empty 2-liter plastic bottle. I wrote this wikihow article. I make incense and incense burners as a hobby and sell online. Here's a simple one you can make, and you can decorate this to your liking. A decorative burner that suits your style. And if you don't mind me asking, what scent(s) are your incense sticks (I'm just curious)?

How do you use incense ash?

Bowls are for cones or cubes of incense. You want a stick burner, which will have a small hole or holes for the base (non-incensed) part of the stick to go in. Some holders will hold the stick vertically, some will hold it mostly horizontally.

This http://www.incensewarehouse.com/Ceramic-Frog-Bowl-Burner-for-Stick-Cone-Incense_p_2352.html can burn either cones in the bowl, or you can put sticks in the little holes. Here's one http://www.incensewarehouse.com/Hazel-Japanese-4-Ceramic-Wheel-Burne_p_2701.html that is for sticks mostly, though you could use cones in it. And this shows what I call a horizontal burner http://www.incensewarehouse.com/Soapstone-Incense-Burner--Black-Yin-Yang-Incense-Burner-_p_3761.html though you can see that it's not a true horizontal.

What can i use to hold incense as i burn them? i don't have an incense holder...?

I'll assume these are incense sticks you're talking about so.......

1) Slice a small potato in half and place the flat (sliced) end on a plate.
2) Poke the incense sticks into the top of the potato. This allows them to hold steady and any ash will fall onto the plate under it.

Hope that helps.

How do you use incense sticks?

This seems to be a very good question where I can explain a bit more about the incense sticks and then we can understand how to use it.Incense Sticks are generally made to spread fragrance via smoke. So when the stick burns the smoke escorts the fragrance from the stick via air. Keeping that in mind we have to light up the tip of the incense stick and keep it light up for some time until you feel that the tip is completely light up to some extend. So there comes the question on how much to let it burn initially? The answer to this depends upon the make, if you are burning an incense where you can see the bamboo stick, then burn it near quarter to half a centimeter because you will get woody burning smell otherwise. These are generally Indian incense sticks. If you don’t see that bamboo stick then you can just light up the tip of the incense and blow off the fire as soon as you think it's light up. This is also true for incense coneSo now where to keep it when it's light up?As I said earlier that the fragrance is transferred via smoke, you have to keep the incense stick (Agarbatti) in a place from where air is entering into the room. It can be near the AC vent, or near a Fan etc., you have to keep in mind that the smoke should spread with the air. Then you can smell the aroma spreaded with some good incense products.Dipping in Water (for sticks with bamboo in it).Well this is again what I think can make your incense stay there and light up for a little longer. As the incense is generally make up of wood you can actually quickly dip the incense stick in water and take it out as soon as its submerged. Like quickly, very fast!.Obviously this is before you light up and the incense might just lose its bound with the bamboo stick in some cases! or it might not burn completely where you have to light it up again!DisclaimerThe smoke of incense is not actually harmful to health depending up the make obviously. If you blow air directly into it then it will burn off quickly! If you are burning incense in a small room with no ventilation then your eyes might feel irritation. So keep your room ventilated for sure.Let me know how you guys like this post in your comments below.I have lot of good post related to incense and fragrances, so please do follow me.I am also manufacturers of Shubhanjali Incense Sticks which you can buy online at : Incense Stick Manufacturer & Exporter India - Shubhanjali Pooja Agarbattior buy from : Amazon IndiaThanks For Reading :)

How do you make your own incense?

This is a vast subject and few incense makers, like parfumiers are willing to give up their secrets. But a quick rundown; the aromatic materials, spices, woods, resins, gum resins, berries, and herbs are selected. These are then powdered and a mucilage made with a natural gum or the powdered bark of various species of Machilis trees is combined with water and shaped into cones, pastilles or rolled onto a bamboo stick. Expensive Japanese and Himalayan incenses are extruded and dried without having a bamboo stick in the center. Many incenses employ essential oils as a scent additive. If you want to make powder incenses you will not need a mucilage. The powdered aromatics are shaped by the fingers into a small cone-like shape or a line and lit. A simple experiment you may like to try is to combine some powdered cinnamon and some other spices of your liking, ensure everything is powdered. Light the dry powder and enjoy the fragrance.

Why is incense used in a Catholic mass?

Typically in the Catholic tradition, objects (altars, crucifixes, crèches, caskets, Book of the Gospels) and person (Deacon, Priest, congregation, are incensed to honor their sacredness.) The Priest or Deacon uses a censor or thurifer, which looks somewhat like an oversized tea ball. There are all kinds of elaborate rubrics about the manner of incensing. Some churches, particularly cathedrals, use it regularly.Catholic Masses are structured and designed to engage all of the senses. Sight and sound, obviously, but also touch (as with the Asperges, or sprinkling of holy water) and smell. Incense is based on tree resin with some other resins and spices added. There is no “official” brand, but many difference proprietary blends. It tends to have a characteristic resinous, complex odor.

Who uses incense sticks?

Thanks for requesting my answer Lois. Many different kinds of people burn incense sticks. There’s many purposes for them and I can’t name them all, but I’ll name a few:Cedarwood incense sticks are often burned in libraries or museums because the scent helps repel moths, therefor helping to prevent some types of damage.Citronella can help repel mosquitoes and over-sized citronella incense sticks are loved by campers and people who spend a lot of time out-doors.Lavender is often thought to help induce sleep and help transition you to a calmer mind-state.A lot of people also simply enjoy the scent they give off. A simple pleasure of sorts. And while I could go into a very long speech about all of the uses and applications of various scents and compositions of incense sticks, incense has also had a deep cultural connection to many societies, both ancient, as well as modern. All through-out Asia, India, and the Middle East, incense has long had specific spiritual and religious connections. It was, and still is still burned today in many temples, as well as homes, to aid in either religious, spiritual or meditative practice.Frankincense and Myrrh are well-known due to the fact they were mentioned in the bible. Many incense manufacturers make this scent as a tribute to the faith. The popular Indian scent Nag Champa, made from frangipani and sandalwood, had significant attribution to the hippie culture of the 60s. In-fact, both Bob Dylan and the Grateful Dead were known to burn Nag Champa during their live shows. If you’d like to learn a little more about the history of incense through-out the world, then feel free to read the following blog article:Incense Around the World | Vienna Imports
