What Can The Unity Games Design Software Do

What is the best Game Design software?

See your question is a very vague one…. there are lot of factors governing this… depends on which type of game you wanna create like first of all 3D or 2D. If u want to go for 2d then i would suggest Construct 2 . as i think you are an amateur in this field construct 2 is the best for 2d game creation as it requires little to no coding and is really easy to learn….for 2.5d and 3d games i would suggest you go with established game engines such as Unity or Cryengine or Unreal engine….. these three have their own strengths and weaknesses.. unity has more in depth tutorials for beginners.. and i like unity’s latest UI.These all are game engines but you would need much more than this to create a game…. for 2d Photoshop is enough. you just need sprites. but for 3d and 2.5d you need character models for which you need to have a 3d modelling software .i would suggest Blender as it is free and is powerful. it can give the pricey modelling softwares a run for their money… but if you want to buy expensive cutting edge tech i would suggest Maya.Still there are more softwares like if you want your own music score for your game then music production softwares. like FL studio , ableton if using mac. etc etc..hit me up if you want softwares for any specific field.Cheers

Game creating software? Blender, or Unity?

I want to create a video game. I was wondering if any of you know of a free game developing software?
Also, What happens when you create a video game with blender, or unity? Can you sell it somehow?
Can you copyright it? Can you put it on a system? How? Which is better, Blender, or Unity? Do all games you make have to be all action/nature? Cuz that's all I seem to see...
Oh, and what specs/requirements must your computer have to run the software? (I'm on a laptop.)

How do I make a 2D game character for Unity? What software do I use to design a character for a platform game like Super Mario?

For a 2D game, a character will be a sprite in most cases and a sprite is nothing but an image. You can design that in any image editing or vector creation software such as PHOTOSHOP, ILLUSTRATOR, GIMP even PAINT will do the job, it all depends on the quality you desire and the software you are comfortable with. All you need to do is export your image as PNG or JPEG and import it in UNITY. Once done select the imorted image in Unity's resources folder and in the inspector panel change it's type to Sprite. After that you can simply drag and drop it into the scene.Hope this helps. :)Cheers.

How do game studios that build games in Unity design their 3D worlds? Which 3D modeling software do they use and how do they convert 3D scenes to their Unity environment? How agile is this process?

Art production for AAA games (and indie games) is pretty uniform.Studios tend to standardise on one of the main packages.Maya is used heavily because it can be extended with custom features. But others use 3DS Max.Indie studios are less conservative so might use Modo or something else. The workflow goes like this...Block out a game world in crude form for gameplay testing.Develop a look for the environment in 2D - often by overpainting the block worldBuild the assets either directly - or by building high-res geometry and baking down to low-poly meshes.Paint multi-layered textures in Photoshop.  (Diffuse, specular) - Other layers might include luminous, normal, AO,  detail layers. Export geometry into standard or propriety formats.  Collada, FBX, OBJ, in-house, etc.Import texture geometry into engine .

How do I get started with Unity game development?

I felt that making a game right off the bat would be extremely confusing, especially for someone that has never used Unity3D before. If you have any experience working with Blend, WPF or Windows Store Apps, this will be similar to what you know. Before getting started started with Unity, it’s important that we go over the basics a little. Unity supports both C# and JavaScript for game programming. In case you are thinking to develop mobile game using Unity engine then I suggest you to go with AIS Technolabs. They are always available to offer quality help, whenever you need it. And the team would often like to provide help under AIS Technolabs. Whether it is about unity game programming or any developmental package, you are always invited to get the best from their side. They would also like to offer help with unity 3d game development, around here. That can prove to be of good help, around here.To know more about AIS Unity game development check out their game portfolio.Share your idea with team today.

What  software do AAA studios use for game development?

What are the software tools used by studios in AAA game development? That sentence above is a quite the loaded question. Here's why.The art deparment tools may vary drastically from one studio to another. Whilst, at the same time that being the tools used by the engineering department is vastly different from what artists use to the production team and business department, and so on and so forth. Game development studios, often those that are pushing out AAA games for to market delivery use a plethora of tools to develop the games that are played by tens of thousands--to--millions of players. There's no "bundle" that every studio uses but a set of "industry" tools that most studios will incorporate into their development / production cycle that's often interchangeable to assist in development.Typically at most AAA studios you'll find that the art assets used to produced the games art assets use industry tools such as 3D's MAX, Maya, MudBox, Zbrush,  Sketchbook, and other drawing tools. Make not that I say other drawing tools because certain studios don't use Maya and artists jumping from one studio to another have to be skilled enough to be able to learn the new set of tools at one studio to another if they jump ship (which happens quite often).Software that is commonly used within the industry. Game engine: Blender vs unity 3d?

Unity 3D is a game engine similar to the Unreal Engine and CryEngine. You use Unity to make multi-platform games. The game engine within Blender is not good enough for commercial games and it's instead used for presentations, simulations, demos, and prototyping of games.

Maya, 3ds Max, and Blender are modeling, animation, and rendering software and you use them when creating the game assets for the game engine.

Maya is the industry standard in the movie industry and has much better animation tools than the other two. 3ds Max is the industry standard in the gaming industry and has better tools for creating game assets.

So, what can Blender do?

Blender has tools for modeling, sculpting, rigging, animation, rotoscoping, keying, motion tracking, smoke, fire, and fluid simulation, particles, destruction, physics, node based compositing, rendering, and video editing.

There are many tools in Blender that don't exist in Maya and 3ds Max, and vice versa.

Blender lets you do the whole pipeline within just one software instead of exporting/importing to another 3D software. Maya and 3ds Max artists often use many different products; ZBrush, Mudbox, RayFire, RealFlow, Nuke, and so on in combination with Maya or 3ds Max.

Blender also has the most artist friendly and versatile UI of all 3D software; easy to learn and to modify for your specific needs. Blender also has the fastest workflow in the industry. Modeling, retopology, and UV workflow is 3 to 5 times faster in Blender. Many Maya artists use Blender for its UV unwrapping tools.

Every day more and more small studios and freelancers start to use Blender.

Can you do professional work in Blender? Yes, you can. Watch "Sintel" and "Tears of Steel VFX Breakdown" on YouTube.

Unity or Game Maker Studio?

Unity EASILY
it is so much more powerful,
but that means its also more difficult to learn if you've never programmed before

they have lots of tutorials though

Unity uses C# and Javascript - here's a scripting tutorial

Blizzard used Unity to make Hearthstone for mobile devices
http://unity3d.com/showcase/case-stories/hearthstone

I'm sure you've heard of Blizzard (makers of World of Warcraft, Starcraft, Diablo).
And while Hearthstone is not a 2D platformer, this shows that Unity is used by the top companies.

if you find Unity too difficult then try Python and Pygame

This FREE online book was written and is used by a professor for his Introduction to Programming class.
Since it is an introduction, it assumes no experience. So it starts off at the very beginning.
