What do you plan to do on Christmas Day?

I will spend the first three hours of Christmas Day at work - dealing with the assorted folks who arrive in the Emergency Department. Some of them will be funny - the various drunks dressed as Santa Claus and the elves, young women wearing skirts which cover nothing, young lads - bravado stoked by copious amounts of beer - bloodied from drunken fights. But there will be tragedy too. There are always deaths. Sometimes of those who have spent many Christmases with family. Sadly though, there are often deaths of young people.I well remember having to break the news to a mother that her 18 year old son had died at ten to midnight on Christmas Eve. She dried her tears and told me that she was going home to 'make Christmas special for the little ones' - her three younger children.I will finish my shift at 3am, and drive the 16 miles to bed. A quick cup of tea and hopefully a little sleep. There are no gifts for me under the tree. But I enjoy giving, and I shall. My parents are coming for dinner. Turkey and all of the trimmings, I will cook and lay the table and clear afterwards. Wondering how many more years I will have them for. My dad is nearly 80 and dogged by ill health.I will have to go to bed early. I will be up at 04.30 on the 26th, back to work again for 6am. Christmas over and done for another year.Happy Christmas all, make it a safe one.

How do Muslims celebrate Christmas?

A few Muslims celebrate Christmas with trees and gifts, but not to worship the Prophet Jesus.  This happens especially when people have kids who are surrounded by Christians, and therefore demand extra toys.Remember that Christmas is not the day of the birth of the Prophet Jesus. It is a holiday made to coincide with earlier, pagan holidays. My former sister-in-law, a Muslim who is a Citizen of the UAE, put up a Christmas tree in her home, and on the door of their condominium home in Dubai.  Her husband was angered, but the tree remained because she thought it was cute, and she spent a few hundred dollars on it.In practice, a goodly percentage of Muslims will participate in the festivities, if asked, or if there is nothing else fun to do, and the festivities provide entertainment. However, many Sunni Muslims do not believe in celebrating any holidays except Ramadhan and the two Eids.  Shia (the 10% minority), however, do have holidays. This was my answer to another question.:But in the Gulf Arab countries (n, as in the U.S., there are usually huge Christmas trees in the malls, and, OF COURSE holiday sales.  No retailer would miss that opportunity!Christmas celebration starts after Halloween or Thanksgiving, except when it conflicts with Muslim holidays.  Then, it starts later. This was the most expensive Christmas tree in the world in 2010And there is usually a Santa in most malls.  Meet Santa at Ski DubaiMany people love to take pictures with Santa:Christians celebrate at church:And, of course, there are school celebrations, Christmas pageants, and Christmas plays. Most Christians will take time off for Christmas Day, and employers won't stop them.  Then, the Muslims and Hindus often decide not to show up for work, either, since they know that Christians won't be coming in. Legally, the employer can deduct this from the employee's pay, but larger employers generally wouldn't do it, and most others wouldn't, either.

Marriage over Christmas exodus?

He will not get in any trouble for getting married. However, if he does not take leave or is accounted for during his time away, then yes he will be in trouble with his command. Simple fix...ensure he notifies his supervisor that he wishes to take leave. he may have not earned too many days of leave, as of yet since the military earns 2.5 days a month and he is only in basic training. He may be authorized a pass, also, but he must communicate with his leadership. Note also you will not be able to spend a whole lot of time with him afterwards, but could make it up after he graduates basic. Be creative when it come to time spent together and be patient, do not make demands on him that he cannot commit to as the Army is his first wife and your feelings are going to be hurt many days and night if you do not learn this early on in an military relationship

Are you getting drunk on Christmas Eve?

Gina, you tart, how dare you judge me! I have a life, one that is way better than yours. I work hard all year doing a thankless job, I rarely drink, and I'm going to be with people I care about. If I want to blow off some long accumulated steam and stress, then I'm going to! Get off your high horse, you're not so great. I won't be harming anyone but myself, so what do you care? I will take another answer's advice and stary hydrated and take Advil. Happy Christmas to you.

What did you do over christmas holidays?

We had a nice quiet Christmas as usual. Our oldest son came to stay for three nights, so he was here for Christmas Day and Boxing Day, which was very nice. Our to younger sons had fun playing with their presents, and no.1 son had fun playing with them too. We went over to see my mother in law on Christmas morning and exchanged presents (she always has Christmas dinner at he younger son's). She came over to us for dinner on Boxing Day. On New Year's Eve I took the boys to see Cinderella at the Marlowe Theatre in Canterbury, which was great fun.

Where should I spend Christmas Eve and Christmas in Paris alone?

Well I have always worked over Christmas since I have lived in Paris, so my time has been occupied. However on Christmas Eve several shops and maybe even markets are open until midday. Public transport keeps going over the holiday. The only problem could be tomorrow night, as Christmas Eve is a bigger event than Christmas Day and it may be difficult to find anywhere open to eat if you leave it too late. I remember a colleague going out from the office and searching everywhere for something to eat for us both. Even MacDonalds and the kebab places were shut. We went to bed hungry. On Christmas Day the bakers shops should be open so you could always There are a couple of bars I was going to recommend, friendly expat places, but have just heard they will be closed over the next couple of nights. A lot of expats go home for the holiday. The weather forecast is not too bad, and Paris is a great city for walking about so I suggest that is a good thing to do. Walk along the river, branch off if you see something interesting. There will still be tourists around but it will be quieter than normal. Take a stroll from the Louvre through the Tuileries gardens up to Place de la Concorde, and then up to the Arc de Triomphe. On Christmas Day you should be able to find boulangeries open in the morning - the French like their fresh croissants and baguettes. I Hope you enjoy your explorations and i wish you a Happy Christmas.
