What Can You Do To Change Your Brain Chemistry

Does you brain chemistry change after years of ssri use?

i have recently had the weirdest thing happen to me! in fact scary. i have taken zoloft for years for panic/anxiety disorder associated with some mild-monderate depression and it helped. last september i took myself off and did pretty well but the panic slowly returned so i called to doctor to put me back on... and wow, i became so out of control anxious and depressed along with crazy suicial thoughts (although i did not, nor want to), i thought i should have been admitted the hospital, i was scared to do anything, couldnt think strait, my head racing.. i would even wake up break out in a complete sweat and panic, my legs were like completly feeling weird and jumpy, and my heart racing and jumping all over the place!I have to admit it was extremly traumatic for me and i am still recovering and now tring a different medication..lexapro. i still feel crappy, but way better than i did. ... im curious as to why this happened to me after i had taken that same med for so many years????

What are some good foods for good brain chemistry?

Brain food!

I will tell you what worked for me.

Lots of healthy fish, with has healthy fats!
Lots of greens, spinach, brocolli, etc.
Wholegrains - nothing better than some high fiber cereal in the AM.
Make sure you eat your veggies and fruits.

How does adderall/vyvanse change your brain chemistry?

Liam has no idea what he is talking about, I would love to see his evidence. But there is a small increased risk of seizure, and by small I mean extremely tiny. Stimulants have also been used to help people with seizures.

It depends on what "brain chemistry" is to you?

If those medications are taken properly you will not be damaged. There can be some changes to some neurons however if the medication is stopped the "change" is reversed.

But it alters serotonin, norepinephrine, dopamine in the brain by acting on transports for those neurotransmitters among other things. And the levels of those neurotransmitters will increase as the drug is in effect.

So any psychotropic drug will change something, typically just during the time it is working.

And almost all drugs either increase or decrease something that was already there.

Chemistry crisis! Brain cramp....?

Okay, so I have a few chemistry problems that are giving me a total brain cramp and I have absolutely no idea how to work them out and every time I do, I have a feeling i'm doing it all wrong. Here are the problems:
1.The mass of a block of metal is 25.6 kilograms. If the density of the metal is 7.874 g/cm cubed, calculate the volume of the block in centimeters cubed.

2.An unknown substance shaped like a box is 7.0 cm long, 3.5 cm wide, and 12.4 cm high. It has a mass of .4492 kilograms. What is the density of the substance in g/cm cubed?

3.You are drinking a bottle of water that contains 500 mL of water. What is the mass of the water?

4.What is the volume in hL of 40.0 kg of ether if the density of ether is 0.70 g/cL?

5.A student pipets 5.00 mL of ethanol into a flask weighing 15.25 grams. She finds that the mass of the flask plus ethanol is 19.17 grams. Calculate the density of the ethanol.

6.Peanut oil has the density of 0.92 g/mL. If a recipe calls for 1/4 cup of peanut oil, what mass of peanut oil is required?

I know I'm asking a LOT, but pleaseeeee help me. Those are the only questions I have left on my paper, so yeah...Any chemistry genius is awesome at this time.

Can certain thoughts or ideas actually change your brain chemistry?

Actually, all thoughts and ideas change your brain chemistry. The brain is a chemical computing system, and every mental process relies on a chemical process, just like how every computation a digital computer carries out relies on an electrical process. These processes include things like the movement of ions through a cell membrane, release of molecules like dopamine , and changes in the proteins that the neurons produce. The reason this is often not clear is that in many cases we do talk about mental states without reference to the physical processes occurring in the brain. If someone has a bad habit, we generally don’t say that it is due to some physical property of the brain, rather we say it is due to maladaptive behavioral conditioning. This is really for two reasons: first treating bad habits as a behavioral conditioning problem is highly effective, and second we can’t see or change the physical brain structures responsible for a bad habit with current technology. But it’s important not not let that overshadow the fact that there really are physical changes in your brain that make you bite your nails or feel happy or sleepy or sad. At the most basic level, everything that happens in the mind comes down to chemistry. If you’re interested in this I also highly recommend reading about Marr’s Levels of Analysis!

Does excessive use of profanity change brain chemistry?

“Regular speech is generated in the left hemisphere, in an area of the brain close to the surface. The cerebral cortex, or “gray matter,” is often associated with higher thought processes such as thought and action. “It’s sophisticated,” says Bergen, “and comports with the idea of what it means to be human.”Swearing, on the other hand, is generated much deeper in the brain, in regions that are older and more primitive in evolutionary terms, says Bergen. These regions are often found in the right hemisphere in the brain’s emotional center, the limbic system.“These are words that express intense emotions—surprise, frustration, anger, happiness, fear,” says psychologist and linguist Timothy Jay, who began studying profanity more than 40 years ago.“[Swearing] serves my need to vent, and it conveys my emotions to other people very effectively and symbolically,” he says. “Where other animals like to bite and scratch each other, I can say ‘f*ck you’ and you get my contempt—I don’t have to do it physically.”So, no, profane language, excessive or not, does not change brain chemistry but rather profane language is a result of emotion induced temporary brain chemistry changes. No amount of cursing in the world can change brain chemistry.

Can a person change their body chemistry with their thoughts?
