What Causes Intermittent Front Car Tire Shake On Braking

How do you fix the shaking of the front end of the car?

Shaking of the front end is either wheels out of balance or something loose. So start out looking for WHEN it occurs. If it is at high speed, but never at low speed, you might suspect the wheel/tire balance first. But if it is at lower speeds, and particularly if your definition of “shaking” is like mine, I'd say you have wear in the suspension/steering parts, or possibly just out of alignment (like the supermarket carts with the wobbly wheel since it has been bent under a bit). Take the weight off the front end with a lift or jack stands (never get under a car on the jack) and shake different parts to find the one that moves, and take a bar or something to see whether the wheels will move up and down from loose or worn bearings. All of this s something a tire shop would be good at pin-pointing, as they normally have the equipment and knowledge. But the longer you wait, the higher the bill will be in the end, as the forces will wear out other parts. You may need a simple pitman or idle arm bushing that costs $10, but the forces of the wobbling can damage $500 wheel bearings or $200 ball joints.

What would cause an intermittent vibration, while driving? Feels like tire out of balance, but not constant?

When I get up to about 60-70 MPH... I get an intermittent vibration coming from the front of the car. It vibrates for a couple seconds, fades out and doesn't vibrate for a couple seconds (drives smooth)... vibrates for a couple seconds, fades out and doesn't vibrate for a couple seconds. I would say the vibration is more subtle, and not violent. But, like I said... it's intermittent at about 60-70 +... vibrate (couple seconds), fades out runs smooth couple seconds... vibrates... smooth... etc.

I didn't notice this until I changed the brakes. New rotors and pads on the front. I drive a 1990 Olds 88, 3800 engine.

Front wheels shake when I use my brakes. Told it was the ball joints, How do I tell.?

Most likely culprit is glazed or warped brake rotors.
Worn tie rod ends or steering linkage would be second.
Unlikely it's the ball joints, although that doesn't necessarily mean that you don't need new ball joints, just that this condition isn't a symptom of it.

What causes jerking when applying the brakes?

When you apply the brakes, you feel a jerky pulsation feeling through the brake pedal and even the steering wheel. The most common cause of this sensation is warped brake rotors, and while this is only a mild irritation at slow speeds and casual driving it can become serious in an emergency stop situation and can cause unnatural wear and tear to the wheel, tyre, brakes and steering column. The cause of pulsation and vibration is most commonly warped brake rotors. When the brakes are applied, the brake calipers press the brake pads against the rotors that rotate with the wheel. If the rotor is warped so the surfaces are not parallel, the caliper pistons are rapidly pushed in and out as the pads contact high and low spots. These pulsations will cause the entire wheel to vibrate. There are several causes for warped rotors. It can result from normal wearing of the rotors. It will often occur if you let the brake pads wear to the point where is there is metal-to-metal contact between pads, or what's left of them, and the rotor. Thus, the importance of routine brake pad inspections. Performance Brake Pads

Car steering wheel shaking and driver side front wheel getting/smelling hot. And check engine light comes on.?

I have a 99 Mercury Sable. Going to get it looked at ASAP but wondered if any one here can help me with some info. Basic problem has happened a few times now. Car starts shaking badly (steering wheel especially). Only seems to happen when it's exceptionally hot out. Today it happened again and when I pulled over, I noticed the driverside front wheel smelled hot and was quite hot to the touch. Online searching has come up with a possible stuck brake caliper. Just seems weird that it only happens intermittently (about 6 times in the past month and a half). Happened 3 times in a week, took it in, had the ball joint replaced and the problem was solved for a about a month, then it happened again 3 times this past week. Don't know if it's related, but the check engine light has come on both weeks that it happened (first time my mechanic said it was a faulty emissions thing and turned it off.) Any ideas?

Does a vibrating steering wheel come from bent front rims or all bent rims?

i have a BMW 335xi coupe and the BMW dealer said i had 3 bent rims when i brought it in because the sterring wheel vibrates over 60mph. the only rim that isnt bent is one of the rear rims. does the vibrating come from the front rims only since there below the steering wheel? in other words if i just replace the front two rims and have one bent rim in the back will the vibration go away? my other question is, if i do get them all replaced is there any sort of alignment or anything that will need to be done because the car has been vibrating for a month.

If i am driving at 65 mph and my car starts to vibrate, what causes that?

will be woreout tires or bad balance..... tire guy over 20 yrs... if you car doesnt pull hard to either side most likey balance... which should be done when rotated or every other time the oil is change

Why is my car vigorously shaking when i get to high speeds?

There are many things that could cause this. I've recently had this happen on both my vehicles. Also there are many variables at play here. 95% chance it's due to your front end suspension. Does the steering wheel have play? Does the car wander? (Especially going into/coming out of turns) Do you feel it in the steering wheel?Upper and Lower Ball Joints, Tie Rod ends, and struts are likely the cause.Check your tire tread, too.At certain speeds it will shake if any of these start to fail. Let me know what symptoms you have if you haven't had the issue fixed.I also should add, if you or a “shade tree” mechanic fix this, it's imperative you get a professional alignment done. New parts change your vehicle’s stance, which in turn affects its driving experience.Hope this helps!
