What do True Detective fans think of the first trailer for Season 2?
It was a perfect teaser for the kind of show True Detective is. I absolutely loved the song; it wonderfully complements the silent montage of video clips and draws you into that dark, gloomy world that defines the show. According to a page on Bustle, "the song is an unreleased track by country singer Lera Lynn".Apart from that, I agree with Dan Holliday and Joan Hoffman. Given the nature of season one, and having only seen Rachel McAdams previously in the Sherlock Holmes movies, I was expecting her to play some sort of a vamp. I'm glad that the show seems to have given her a more serious, badass character instead. A strong female lead was exactly what I wanted after season one, and I seem to have got my wish!See: Gaurav Mokhasi's answer to What two actors would people like to play the protagonists in True Detective Season 2?
Is there a connection between Seasons 1 and 3 of True Detective?
Of course there is a connection:Both seasons deal with the disappearance of young people. Both seasons deal with sexual abuse of young people by the antagonists. In both seasons the perpetrators are from the upper class. Both seasons are set in the US-American south. Both seasons deal with police officers violating the boundaries of their duty. Both seasons feature a detective couple of two very different characters, with very different biographical backgroundsBoth seasons are set in different time frames. Season 1 is set during the time of the investigation and, many years later, when this investigation comes under scrutiny; season 3 is set in three different times, the original investigation, ten years later when one of the missing kids seem to have resurfaced, and again 10 years later when one of the protagonists fights against dementia and needs to get an answer about what has happened before it is too late. Both seasons dramaturgical driver is the development of the relationship between the two police officers, and in the case of one of them, also some family members of his.In both seasons the antagonist appears really late in the story (in season 3, Boyt appears for the first time in episode 7 out of 8) which indicates that the story is about something else than the mystery of who committed the crime but instead rather about some sort of existential crisis that the two protagonists live through while investigating the case.
True Detective Season 1: Which character do you think is more fucked up as a human being, Rust Cohle or Martin Hart?
Marty. Why Marty:He not only cheats on his wife but is also a hypocrite who dumps her the moment he finds out that she cheated on him. He's abusive. So far, we've heard him label the girl he was having an affair with, his daughter, and Maggie as whores.Marty is a bad father who is mostly unavailable in his daughters' lives and is insensitive on several occasions while talking to them.Rust, on the other hand, is apathetic towards humanity but still in control of who he is. To get a peak inside his head, check Jonathan Brill's superb description of Rust's philosophy of life. There is no doubt that Rust's past with his daughter and days of drug abuse while working undercover have affected him badly but we see his condition improving as we move through the series. His only real problem is alcoholism.
What happened to Detective Elliot Stabler's character on Law and Order Special Victims Unit?
In the last episode of season 12 ("Smoked"), a teenage girl brought a gun into the precinct and started shooting at the men who were responsible for her mother's rape and murder. She wouldn't drop the weapon and accidentally hit an innocent bystander, Sister Peg, so in order to keep anyone else from getting hurt Stabler had to shoot her. The episode ended with the girl's death. After that episode was filmed, Christopher Meloni declined to renew his contract. Officially the story was that he asked for more money than NBC was willing to pay, but it was also apparent that he was tired of playing the same role for 12 years and wanted to move on to new projects. He's had pretty steady work for the past year, appearing in the new Superman movie and the upcoming season of True Blood among other things, so it's worked out well for him. Coincidentally, a new head writer (Warren Leight, former showrunner of Law & Order: Criminal Intent) took over at the start of season 13, shortly after Meloni's negotiations fell through. He took the show in a new direction with two new detectives instead of one to replace Stabler, a redesigned set, and a slower, more cerebral pace of writing. Since Meloni didn't come back for the season 13 premiere ("Scorched Earth"), Leight and his crew had to write Stabler off without actually having him on-screen. They picked up a few months after "Smoked," saying that Stabler had been put on administrative leave pending an IAB investigation into his shooting of the girl. At the end of the episode Cragen tells Benson that Stabler decided to retire rather than jump through IAB's hoops to get his badge back.
Will Rust and Marty appear in any episodes of True Detective after Season 1?
Maybe as a cameo?True Detective season 2 will be a whole new show. It's named after an anthology paperback that featured dozens (hundreds?) Of independent stories. Expect some of the same themes expressed through a completely new story. What remains to be seen is whether or not the stories exist in the same universe. If so, we might hear about Marty and Rust, or maybe see them in some capacity. That would be a real treat.
Which TV series is better: True Detective or Daredevil?
True Detective and Daredevil both are completely different genres and so there’s no way to compare them directly. I’ve watched both seasons of each show and so my answer would be :True Detective : Season 1 is must watch for the acting, plot and dark theme it offers. Definitely you are going to get a new perspective from Matthew McConaughey’s character in it. It is intriguing.Second season was plotwise slow, less gripping and lacked the charisma of season 1 actors.Daredevil :Whether you read / liked Daredevil comics or not, you are going to fall for Charlie Cox’s portrayal of Daredevil. All the actors are great, specially Vincent D'Onofrio as Wilson Fisk. As a villain he really seems strong and fearful. Dialogues are funny, thoughtful and well written. Unlike other superhero movies or TV shows, they don’t just give as one-liners, the small talks between characters are really well constructed and make story better. The actions sequences are choreographed nicely, so nice that you will re-watch them(bet?).In season 2, Daredevil vs The Punisher(Yay!!! THE PUNISHER) interactions will make you question your moral obligations. Even if you aren’t into Superhero stuff, this has lot more to offer in terms of great acting, interesting conversations, entertaining action scenes, intriguing storyline and yes Charlie Cox.(Oh!! I am in love with him).Cheers!!
