What Courses Do You Take If You Major In Corporate Law

In order to become a corporate lawyer should I go for a 5 year integrated BA LLB course, or a 5 year integrated BBA LLB course in India after Class XII?

It is immaterial as to what stream paper you choose. The core papers (that is the law paper) will be same for both the streams. Moreover you study stream papers only for three years. If you have done Commerce before go for BBA that will let you concentrate on your core paper, likewise with BA if you have been an arts student in school. To get into the top corp law firms in India your CGPA is the only important element.

I want to take up corporate law, which stream should I opt for?

In the United States, you start the process of becoming a lawyer by completing an undergraduate degree. This need not be in a specific discipline. Common undergraduate degrees to become a lawyer are history, political science and English. These are all subjects that emphasize critical thinking and writing and improve your communication skills. The first step in how to become a lawyer is really to obtain a broad education emphasizing the liberal arts. That is why such subjects are common in preparing to become a lawyer. But it is increasingly common to pursue subjects like economics, psychology and hard sciences which can provide preparation for very specific technical fields of law.   The next step in how to become a lawyer is to apply for law school. Law school considers several factors in admission. You need a high LSAT score, a strong undergraduate transcript and a strong personal statement explaining your objectives in pursuing law school. There is really no shortcut on how to become a lawyer. You should have participated in relevant activities at the undergraduate level or interned at law firms over summer to make a compelling case of wanting to become a lawyer.  After law school, you can take the bar exam to practice in particular states. You can also choose to become an in-house lawyer in various corporations.

Type of lawyer? Well paid? CORPORATE OR PATENET? please answer! 10 points!?

If you work for a large corporate law firm (for example: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_100_largest_law_firms), you will likely make $160,000 as a first year associate in a NY or LA office, regardless of whether you are a corporate or patent lawyer.

If you are a patent lawyer, you would need to pass two bars to practice patent law, the state bar and the patent bar. Most patent lawyers I know have a background in science or engineering.

Because at the start of your career as a lawyer, the differences in salary between the two types of law practices are negligible, I would choose whichever law you are more interested in. Are you at good at science and engineering? Then major in a hard science (chemistry, physics, bio) and go into patent law. If you are interested in businesses, then go into corporate law.

If you were to be a corporate lawyer, you should work for a private law firm. You can't get a job in-house at a corporation without actual job experience at a big law firm.

Check out sources like http://www.top-law-schools.com/forums/. You seem to be pretty young and unfamiliar with the profession. Do your due diligence; research the profession and what it takes to succeed in it, and good luck.

Biology courses for Psychology Major going into law school?

Principles of Biology would be a good one to start with. The classes that you are thinking about are likely to have Principles of Biology as a prequisite. I would also advise against taking three classes during the summer. The pace of the classes is much faster during the summer session.

Will I be able to pursue corporate law if I don't have AP Calculus but AP Statistics and various other AP courses?

Probably. You don’t have to do a hard major to get into law school.Still, the top law schools are looking for a high GPA and a high score on the LSAT. Math and linguistics majors post the highest average scores on the LSAT and about 90% of them get accepted in a least one law school. The trade-off is obvious; both are hard majors.Econ is usually around third. If you decide what sort of law school you want to get into, you can also plan for how hard you’ll need to work. What’s the point of AP Stat without Calculus? Unless you’re going to do cookbook-level stat, probability is mostly integrals and the lion’s share of modeling is partial derivatives/matrix algebra.OTOH, you might be skipping AP Calc because you don’t feel that strong in math. If so, university differential calculus is fairly easy. Take integral calculus during a light term.

What degree do I need to become a corporate lawyer?

All you need is a law degree.

Your undergraduate major is pretty irrelevant when applying to law school, and pretty much meaningless once you get out of law school.

You may want to focus on business or economics, or even a foreign language like Spanish or Chinese, but by the time you are applying for a job after law school, your college major is one of the last things most employers will consider. Same for your undergraduate school, go where you want. Get good grades and get into a good lawschool. You could go to a fairly crappy school, ace the LSAT, get into a great law school and still easily find employment. Again, law firms and corporations hiring lawyers really won't focus too much on your undergrad school or degree, the focus will be on what law school you went to, what your grades were, and what extra curriculars/honors you had in law school (ie law review, moot court, etc.)

In India, can I study corporate law without taking the CLAT?

no, to study any law, u hv to do llb, and clear clat to get admission in llb, moreover for speciation in corporate law, u hv to do LLm, as LLb is general course and there is no specialisation in LLb.If u want to escape CLAT, then there is a way out, do graduation preferably in political science or public administration (as its also helpful for law syllabus, while u read constitutuonal law.... And heloful in many other laws tooo....) , and go for 3 yrs LLb after it, its entrance is much easier than CLAT, and in 3 yrs graduation u get enough time for the Prepration of 3 yrs LLb entrace(conducted seapretly by all major state universities) as board pressurewill not b there.

Double major in business and law a bad idea?

Are you in the US? If so, law is a graduate program. You can major in business and then go to law school. Many schools offer a joint MBA/JD -- so you can get graduate degres in both disciplines.

In many countries, law is an undergraduate program -- and there is no reason why you can't get a double major.
