Best 250, 2 Stroke Dirt Bikes?

FYI the WR mentioned above is not a 2 stroke, it's a 4 stroke...

as for 2 strokes ... for any given year, most of the major 4 Japanese brands will be very comparible with only very slight improvements one over another. if you are looking to buy something in the early 90s, the best bet to to find out how the bike was maintained & what aftermarket parts have been put on it...

alot depends on what is available in your area and if you have a preference of one brand over another. personally, I would opt for a Honda, then Kawasaki, then Suzuki, then Yamaha, then anything else ... I haven't had good luck with Yamaha, but some of my friends swear by them ... so alot of rider preference comes into play...

Is a 2-stroke or 4-stroke better for your first dirt bike?

So I’m gonna assume you’re going to buy a used bike. But regardless …for a first-timer the advice would be the same but more so for a used bike as your first ride.Go with a 4-stroke bike. Why?Because they are a lot easier to live with than a 2-stroke machine. You have to make pre-mix for a 2-stroke bike …that means mixing the proper amount of 2-stroke oil with the fuel you put in the tank. “Smokers” are more prone to be kinda finicky with fuel mixture (rich/lean) and they can foul spark plugs if things are off fuel mixture-wise.It’s a real bummer to go out to ride and you can’t start the bike because the plug is fouled or it ends up getting fouled.2-strokes typically need lots of RPM’s to make power …and to keep the plug from fouling. So, for a first timer, they can be a little more difficult to ride. With a 4-stroke bike you just add gas and go. The chances of fouling a plug are way much less with a 4-stoke engine. Fuel mixture is still important but not quite as critical as for a 2-stroke. 4-stroke engines tend to put out more torque at lower RPM’s …more oomph …the stuff that’ll keep you from stalling the beastie on the trail …so they tend to be easier to ride for a beginner.4-stroke bikes tend to be a little heavier …just ’cause the engine is heavier …but these days the weight differential has dropped a lot.Once you get your feet wet …literally and figuratively …you can always transition to a 2-strok bike. But for a first-timer I’d say, IMHO, go with the 4-stroke machine.

Is a 125cc 2 stroke dirt bike too small for me?

matey if you already have a 250 4 stroke the power increase is minimal its just the delivery a 4 stroke has 3-4 small bumps/surges in power throughout the rev range im sure you can feel them a two stroke has just on it's known as "the power-band" it is approx 7'200 rpm and it kicks like a beast on 250 and bigger bike it will lift your 230lbs *** like your a 2 year old and the key is to embrace it and ride it out
this obviously comes with practice also a good rider will never feel it cos the never drop a band unless it is to "slide" a corner once again practice...
in short no a 125 is not too powerful is you ride it like your wanting to learn it will come if u jump on it and try to abuse it it will abuse you i would happily say you could jump on a 250 2 stroke and the same thing but i would recommend a 125 being a good steping stone because you will find in 2 years you can abuse the bike then get on a 250 and it wont be a big jump if u get a 250 you will take for ever to learn to abuse it as it will be too busy abusing you
this is just my opinion im sure if you go to your local track and ask around you will get similar answers as well as other peoples opinion hope this helps though all the best to and welcome to the awesome world of two wheels

DirtBike Question! Is a 125 two stroke the same size as a 250?

I know it might be a dumb question, but I need a for sure answer!! I'm looking into getting a new dirt bike. I'm 15 and obviously on a budget and I've heard two strokes are cheaper and easier to maintain? I have always had someone take care of my bike for me but now I'm maintaining this one on my own. So I wouldn't want it to be too difficult although I know a lot goes into making sure your bike runs strong. I have a Honda CRF 150f but I've quickly grown out of it. I'm about 5'7 and weight about 170lbs. The reason I'm not looking into getting a 250 two stroke is because I've been told it would be way too much power for me. So then as I was looking at bikes on the internet and started noticing that a 125 two stroke looks about the same size as a 250? I'm probably going to be riding at the track just for fun and I sometimes go trail riding, like el Mirage and Gorman, and I would consider myself a beginner to intermediate rider. So if you guys could please answer my question that'd be great! And if you guys have any thoughts or suggestions PLEASE let me know! Thanks!!

Best 2 stroke dirtbike for hill climbing?

Any 2 stroke is going to be inferior to a 4 stroke for hills, mud, rocks and woods. In the hands of an experienced rider, they can make a 2 stroke work in these conditions, but it doesn't sound like you are overly experienced. Therefore, I would recommend a 4 stroke for you as it has more low end torque and power. With your size, I'd say a 250cc. In these conditions, on a 2 stroke, you are going to be constantly changing gears, which takes all the fun out of it.

The point is if you are looking at Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki, Kawasaki or KTM, there is not best. They are all great bikes and it's personal preference.
