What Do Bail Bonds Do

How do Bail Bonds work?

My friend is in jail for being an idiot, he was able to call me from the jail and gave me a number for the A and L bonding agency. I gave them a call and the woman said that she wasn't interested and hung up. I called the next day to ask why, or how else i could go about this and she just hung up. I was wondering if i could do his bond with someone else or if they were set for him?

Bail-Bonds men? What can they do and not do?

Okay so here's a little info and then I will get to my question.

My 28yr old brother, stupidly jumped a $2,800 bond and left state. At the time of the bailout $280 was posted and my mom had to sign papers with no collateral, my brother had to sign papers as well. So now the Bail-bonds man is saying that my mom signed over collateral and he can take everything she owns in order to get back the money that is owed. We asked him to fax us the papers that he was stating my mom signed, but he will not. He had friends calling and harassing us pretending to be Fugitive Task Force, but they refused to state they're names. They wouldn't even give us last names. They said "we can do whatever we want to you" and they can keep taking my moms things for 7 years. But my mom never signed over collateral. They keep changing the amount of money owed, first it was 8,000 and now its 3,000. They aren't doing anything but harassing my mom, if they wanted my brother they know where he is, because he was arrested after the fact of jumping bail...and nothing happened. He was released. They also claimed that he had federal warrants out in NV (that is where he is) But when we checked into that, he did not.

Now...My brother has a facebook. We found out the other day that the bails-bond men had made a facebook under my brothers name, added our friends and family to the facebook, and stated on the facebook in exact words "moocher, bail absconder and wanted fugitive".

Can the bail-bonds men do this? They call us up to six times a day making threats but never pursing them. I feel as though some kind of dirty work is being done here. When we said we were going to contact the prosecuting attorney to get legal advice (who is a family friend) he said "they don't know the law" and when we said we have a judge who is also a family friend, he again said "they don't know the laws either".

Can they do whatever they want to us?...We know that no such collateral was put up, but can they just harass my mom like this? isn't there some kind of limit? what should be done?

Is what this guy doing legal?

any and all help would be great!
if you don't have any nice advice please, give none. =]

How do bail bonds work?

If you have never used a Bail Bonding Service before and now find yourself in need of one, it can be tough and many even say scary.

What is a bail bond? Where do you go to get one?

First of all I define a bail bond as a security note or "bond" designed to financially guarantee the return of the inmate to court each and every court date. If the inmate, once released known as defendant, fails to return to court in the allotted amount of time, California 6 months to no more than one year, than the face value of the bail bond is now ordered to paid to the court.

The cost of the bond does vary from state to state, in California the usual premium (cost) is a maximum of 10% of the total bail amount, but one may qualify for 8% under some circumstances.

Here in California we are very competitive and it is not unheard of to find bail bonding companies offering interest free payment plans with as little as no money down.

If thing are done correctly, than there usually is a cosigner who contractually agrees to pay for the face value of the bail bond itself and any additional fees, (court, fugitive recovery, etc.) in the event the defendant (now known as fugitive) fails to appear and can not be returned to court in the legal amount of time.

As far as getting one goes! You can find accredited bail bondsman in many ways. Now a days the most popular place to find a bail bondsman seems to be the internet. Just Google search bail bonds in the area where the inmate is being held and you will find local bondsman.

If you don't have internet access, than go to your local phone book and I'm sure you'll come across several!

Please Note: Many Bondsman claim to be in the local area to where your looking but in fact are not. You may want to confirm their location if your looking for a local guy or gal.

Also, always make sure you go with an accredited bail bondsman. You may want to check the State agency who licenses bail bondsman in the state in question, if you are concerned with whom you are dealing.

Lastly, I must say. DO NOT GET INVOLVED WITH A BAIL BONDSMAN UNLESS YOU ARE EXTREMELY COMFORTABLE WITH WHAT YOU ARE DOING.
Make sure you are not sold on a bail bond, a lot of bail bondsman will come off as salesman and try to pressure potential clients.

As we say, if you have doubt, don't do it!

Good Luck!

If your bail is 300,000 how much of that do you pay?

If your bail is 300,000 then you will owe 300,000.

Not every place has bail bondsmen, and where they don't exist, you pay 100% of your bail.

In places with bail bondsmen, the deal you make with them is a short term loan; You put up collateral, which could be money, your car, your house, etc. They pay your bail but you owe them the money if you don't show up for your trial.

The most common way bail bondsmen have for recovering bail from people who skip their trial date is one or more bounty hunters.

Can bail bond people lie?

If you miss your court appearence, yes a bench warrant will be issued for your arrest, and you'll have a bounty hunter on you. If you do go to court, everything should be fine. Especially with your girlfriend there, you do have a lawyer right? Just explain to the court what happened and your girlfriend will corroborate your story. It wasn't your girlfriend that arrested you, it was the police acting on behalf of the state. That's why you get "State of Florida v John Ramon" even if it was a domestic incident. The state determines the criminality, now if your girlfriend is testifying that it was an accident, and didn't want this to happen in the first place, that should go in your favor and they will probably just throw out the case. Don't be scared, just know your rights. Read up a bit on court procedure so you'll know what to expect. Knowledge will allay most fears.

PS: Ignore Karma, if you pushed her it's not assault, it's battery, she clearly doesn't know the difference.

How does bail bonding work?

A bail bond is a legal contract between a crime suspect and the jurisdiction that gives a surety about the court appearances of the suspect. It is a contract between four different organizations: a person charged as guilty, the court, The bond agent, and the bail bonding organization. The job of a bail agent is usually to be accountable for whether your court appearances in the period. The option to pay the bond himself is reserved by a suspect if it can be afforded by him. The court sets the bail amount and the Intensity of Criminal offense decides the cost. In case of the escape of a suspect, he is certainly brought back to justice and in that case certainly, he will lose all the right to get back the bond money. The purpose of a bail bond company is to ensure the court about your court appearance when scaled upon by the judge that is your following court date. As a condition of your release, it is necessary to check in with your bail agent regularly. As a financial incentive, cash is required by the court in the form of a bond to release a suspect. By doing this the defendant is usually prevented from fleeing the jurisdiction, or the national country. A sum or charge can be billed by the bail bonding business against publishing for your bail and this amount changes as respects the change in the jurisdiction. For more details about Bail Bonds Ventura County & Bail Bonds Santa Barbara, Visit us now!

What does a bail bondsman do?

Adam Henry, a jailed person, is arrested for a felony and his bail is set at $50,000 dollars.Adam's mom wants Adam out of jail, but she does not have a spare $50k in the bank, so she sees a bailbondsman, Bob.Bob tells Adam's mom that she must pay him 10% of the bail, cash, and put up her home as collateral. She does this, paying Bob $5k and signing a document that if Adam fails to appear in court, she will turn over her home to Bob.Here's where we have two outcomes:First - Adam goes to every court date and is (1) released without charges, (2) found not guilty, or (3) convicted and given probation or sent to jai/prison. Bob returns the document, and releases any interest in Adam's mom's home. Bob WILL keep the $5k.Second - Adam uses his release from jail as a plan to skip town. His mom may or may not approve of his plan. He skips town with the intent to never appear. Bob will not only keep the $5k, but will take steps necessary to take possession of Adam's mother's house. He will sell it to satisfy the $45k she owes him and give her back whatever is over the top. Bob will also assign a couple of associates, with rather nasty attitudes and the 1872 blessing of the SCOTUS, to pursue Adam across state lines, kicking down any door and beating the living crap out of him if required to return him to the courts, in order to keep the $45k he put up to secure Adam's release.

What do you need to become a bail bond agent?

I have been a bondsman since 1997.

Bail agent licensing is generally regulated by a state's Department of insurance. I would contact them for licensing requirements. It usually takes some time to complete the requirements.

Bail bonding offices routinely hire non-agents as staff to do things like answer the phone, file and other office related tasks that don't require bail agent licensing. This might be your best bet for a summer job.

I would prepare a resume and go your local bail bond offices and ask if they are hiring support staff and if you wish pursue licensing at the same time.

Good luck.
