Why do Democrats want abortions to be legal because "they'll happen anyway" but think banning guns would work?
I want abortions to be legal because it’s my body my choice. I’m not an incubator, dammit! Historically it’s been proven that making abortions illegal does not stop them, it just makes them unsafe to get them. Women die. Let me repeat that, women die. Worldwide over 300,000 women die in childbirth or child bearing related conditions. Even armed with that knowledge this is one of the ways men have used to, and continue to try to control women. If they really cared they would make sex education a requirement in school and provide free birth control.I don’t know it will work here. I know it’s worked in other countries like the UK. I do believe stricter gun control and enforcement and education would help a lot.
Democrats said abortion should be “safe, legal, and rare”. If it’s just a clump of cells, why include “rare”?
Pro-choice people don’t deny that abortion is a difficult decision that can cause emotional distress. Using contraception to prevent the pregnancy in the first place is a vastly superior option.Of course the purely pragmatic reason is that prevention is always preferable to a medical procedure.I think there’s also an acknowledgement in there that a lot of people find this sort of procedure objectionable. Of course, this still doesn’t override the bodily autonomy of women.In short, everything points to “rare” being the best option for abortion. The view that a fetus is a “clump of cells” really has no bearing on these reasons. The desire of pro-choice people to keep abortions rare (which in this instance may be considered to mean “not necessary in the vast majority of cases”) has nothing to do with the personhood of the fetus and everything to do with personhood of the mother.
What are the democrats views on abortion?
They are actually varied. The Democratic Party platform is pro-abortion, but there are many pro-life Democrats. I am a member of Democrats for Life of America. We are pro-life in ALL respects, the unborn AND the born, desiring to provide refuge and safety to all oppressed and persecuted people, no matter their race, religion, or if they come from a “shithole” country, against the (fallible) death penalty, etc.I personally believe a person has the right to do with their body what they wish. If they want to shoot heroin, smoke cigarettes, get knee-walking drunk…as long as they do not endanger the lives or safety of another person, have at it. I might think the behavior is foolish, but it shouldn't be illegal. But a woman and her unborn child are two separate persons. A child, morally, is as much a human being 8 or 9 months prior to birth as he/she is 8 or 9 months after birth and deserving of all the Constitutional protections as anyone else. I realize there are cases when a choice has to be made between the life of the child and the life of the mother, and that life sometimes presents us with Hobson's choices. When the physical life or death of either is at stake, the decision should be up to the mother, her doctor, and, if applicable, their God.
How can any Catholic vote democrat given their pro-abortion stance?
Historically, Catholics traditionally voted Democratic most of the time, especially before Roe v. Wade. Now I believe Catholics are more split.Why the traditional habit of voting Democratic? Consider that the largest groups of Catholic immigrants, for many decades, were Irish and Italian.For whatever reason, the Republican Party did not, by and large, do a good job of appealing to those people. The Republican Party (maybe not in Lincoln’s day, but later) tended to benefit from a “Nativist” sentiment that favored White Anglo Saxon Protestants, because — even though these White Protestants looked nothing like the REAL Native Americans — they fancied themselves as the true “native” citizens of the U.S. of A.They looked down on the Irish, who tended to be poor, and they did almost nothing to recruit the Italians, who (to them) looked and spoke a little funny.So, the ranks of the Democrats swelled as large numbers of Italians and Irish came to the shores of America. And the main reason they became so strongly Democratic, for a long time, is that at least the Democrats invited them in. Republicans, when they did approve immigration (which wasn’t often), tended to like it best when it was from countries like England, Scotland, Switzerland, and — yes — Norway… very much like Donald Trump today, who wonders why we we don’t have more Norwegian immigrants.But Catholics are more split today, and I think the abortion debate did much to change things.Still, I note that American Catholics… not all, but certainly many… often go their own way on sexual ethics — even though, strictly speaking — the hierarchy and the Pope tell them not to. And, though not a Catholic myself, I think they have a point. The Bible says next to nothing about either abortion or gay marriage. And yet to some Christians, these things matter a thousand times more than the things Jesus actually DID teach about… helping the poor, healing the sick, standing with the oppressed and downhearted, and loving one’s neighbor as oneself.
What is the standard Democrat position on abortion (time-wise)?
As a general rule, Democratic politicians (especially at the national level) are rarely asked the question, and would be unlikely to if asked. For many on the left, there are several problems with answering the question.First, the answer is subjective for most liberals. The overwhelming majority of liberals have no problem aborting a fertilized egg that hasn’t implanted in the uterine wall yet. Conversely, the overwhelming majority of liberals would be fiercely opposed to aborting a viable 39 week fetus just days before birth. The time when that change in opinion occurs is different for each person and based on outside circumstances. My wife and I are both pro-choice, but would likely have different answers to that time limit.Additionally, the Democrats feel it is in their interests to portray this as a discreet issue with them on one side and the GOP on the other. The left feels that if the GOP can be portrayed as ‘Hell No!’ on the issue of abortion, that most people with an opinion would disagree with the GOP and agree with the Democrats. That is a large part of the reason, that the left always asks opposing politicians about exceptions for ‘rape, incest, and health of the mother’. The Democrats feel a majority of the country feels there are at least a few instances where abortion can be justified, and tries to make it a yes or no referendum on the GOP when it comes to abortion.Of course, the GOP does the same thing - just on different issues. If Nancy Pelosi were to file a bill stating 4 year olds can’t clean gun barrels using gasoline while smoking a cigarette, the GOP would reflexively and immediately claim the gov’t was coming to take your guns. Donald Trump has been running around for days (as of 5/22) saying Hillary wants to eliminate the second amendment. He is trying to turn the issue of guns into a yes or no referendum on Hillary.

Why do conservatives act like all democrats are nothing but welfare leeches?
The truth is that both parties are controlled by special interest groups so they both receive money from big companies. But conservatives think that every single democrat is a welfare leech. How would the democratic party exist if no one was funding it? Bill gates and Warren Buffett are both democrats and donated to Obama's campaign. Me and my friends have jobs and we voted for Obama. I don't know many people who are unemployed. So how can someone be so ignorant to say everyone who votes democrat is unemployed and taking money from others? It is like saying every republican is rich.
