What Do I Add To Compost To Help Tomato Plants Grow Healthy

How do coffee grounds help tomato plants?

Coffee grounds are a good source of nitrogen, which is very important to the growth of healthy roots and aids in the development of plant tissue and the production of chlorophyll. Coffee grounds are also an easy means of enriching soil with organic matter, which improves aeration, drainage and water retention.

Can we grow plants in coco peat?

Yes and no.Coco peat is a good grow medium but not entirely sufficient to grow plants. It's good for germination but lacks micro and macro nutrients required for plant growth. But a good mixture of coco peat, soil, and fertilizer can do the trick.Let me explain.Although coco peat has really good water retention capabilities and has a PH value of 5.6 to 6.8 which is ideal for plants, it lacks the 3 most important nutrients. NPK. Nitrogen, phosphorous and potassium are the most important things that are needed for healthy plants.Nitrogen for leaf growthPhosphorus for root, flowers and seed developmentPotassium strong stem growthTherefore, what gardeners usually do is prepare what we call in the gardening world as a “potting mix”.A potting mix is pretty simple once you've mastered the basics of gardening. With coco peat as base, add nutrients to it.Therefore, my potting mix always contains the following. One part coco peatOne part soil / dirtOne fourth part of vermicompost or worm compost or worm castingsOne fourth part of Bone meal or fish mealAnd I usually add one fourth part of Neem cake or castor cakeThere you have it. My secret potting mix recipe.I've written this on my blog[1] but yet to complete it.Footnotes[1] DIY Potting Mix Recipe the Just Grow way!

Are these tomato plants that randomly grew in compost or just weeds?

They're real. People call them "volunteers." You also get volunteer melons.Volunteer potatoes. Feel free to consider them weeds, though, since the definition of a weed is "A (wild) plant growing where it is not wanted and in competition with cultivated plants." A petunia is a weed when growing in an onion patch.

If those volunteer tomatoes came from a hybridized tomato you probably won't get the kind of beautiful, round, red fruit that you might expect.

Can a compost tea be made using garden, tomato, or plant tone by espoma?

Well, yeah, though it wouldn't be nearly as effective as actually putting the espoma product around your plant. ideally, work it into the top inch or so. it's not water soluable, and breaks down slowly.

You could get a *little* nutrients out of it by making tea first, but I don't think it's worth the effort. if you have espoma on hand (which I love myself), just use it around your plants.

Why do my tomato plant's flowers break off?

Every one wants to dump chemicals on the plants....products like "Get Set" and "more Set".(or any other "SET" for that matter)all will aid in but not cure flower drop.....

The 2 most common causes of flower drop in tomatoes are high heat(over 100 deg in day....over 70 deg at night)...and get this.....OVER fertilization!....(uneven soil moisture can also make these issues worse)

There is really no need to use heavy fertilizers with tomatoes(unless you massively sandy soil.....and then you should add compost to make the soil better)....too much Nitrogen will make flowers drop....the plant sees it is getting a ton of nitrogen and thinks it should keep growing instead of producing flowers(thus making fruit which bring new plants,,,,that is a plants reason for fruiting)

All you really need for tomatoes is some seaweed extract and some fish fertilizer apply one one week one the next....this will give the plant all it needs.....stay away from products like Miracle bloom (or anything blue in color for that matter...they all suck in the long run)....also never plant tomatoes in the same soil in back to back years(nor potatoes....same family)....also the best thing you can do is to plant Hairy Vetch in the beds(in fall) where you will grow tomatoes the next year...in spring the day before you plant tomatoes just weed eat it down(and leave it where it falls on ground) and plant tomatoes right in it!

You will thank me !
