What Do I Feed Red- Eared Sliders

How much should I feed my baby red eared slider? He is about the size of a half dollar.

At that size? As much as he wants, really. Feed him every day until he’s older. Be sure you feed him a balanced diet (not just pellets). UVB light is particularly important for proper growth, as is correct basking temperatures.Give him as much food as he will eat in 15 minutes, and remove the excess. If you want, you can split his daily meal in two and feed him twice a day.

Can i feed my red eared sliders cat food?

If you check the ingredients they are almost equal to turtle sticks(pellets)

I feed my turtles all natural cat food, they love it and the ingredients are good for them.

They do break apart and make a mess after about 20 minuets but i just scupe it out with a net.

What do I feed red- eared sliders?

I have everything to feed my red- eared slider (turtle) except that sometimes the food ain't available. So when it isn't, do you guys know of any small thing available in every home used for feeding it? Like peas or carrots or stuff like that? Please help me!

How much and how often do i feed my baby red eared sliders?

What can i feed them other than pellets of turtle food?? They are ALWAYS hungry! I feed them 4 pellets each three times a day. I'm worried I may maybe feeding them too much or too less.

How many times a day can I feed my red-eared slider?

You can feed them numerous times per day, but once a day is enough - the real question is how much to feed them? During the summer months, my turtles will eat more than you might guess they will. When they’re full, they stop eating and I’ve never seen an obese water turtle. One indication that your turtle wants food NOW! is, if they recognize you as the source of their food, they go through antics, trying to swim up the side of the pool, front feet flapping in the air, neck outstretched. I often hand feed mine, and inevitably, they bite my finger rather than the offered food.I feed them every other day in the summer - as much as they can eat - sometimes nothing for a couple of days if I go away (they’re fine on their own) for the weekend. In the winter, the turtles are moved to a pool in my basement, where the temperature hovers around 45–50°F; they eat very little and in mid winter, they often go several weeks without eating. I have a reptile UV light for them to bask, and add a heat lamp as spring comes closer. That said, Red Ears, kept in a house at room temperature will often remain active year round and eat much more often, but they still slow down in the winter.

What should i feed to my baby turtles(Red Eared Sliders) who are 4 months old and How to tame them?

They will tame themselves. Get Repto-Min from the pet store, and put Repto-Vite on it in a small amount. Occasionally go to your back yard, a field, or vacant lot and dig some worms. Occasionally feed a chunk of raw fish. Feed them as much as they will eat twice a week. You can feed every day if you want, but it makes for a dirty tank. ALWAYS feed as much as they will eat in a sitting.

What do red-eared sliders eat?

The captive diet for pet red-eared sliders should be a varied diet consisting of invertebrates such as worms, aquatic and land plants, and other natural foods. They should never be fed commercial dog food or cat food. A nutritious food readily accepted by young turtles is baby clams soaked in krill oil covered with powdered coral calcium.Younger turtles tend to be more carnivorous (eat more animal protein) than adults. As they grow larger and older, they become increasingly herbivorous. Live foods are particularly enjoyed and add to the quality of life of captive turtles. Providing a wide variety of foods is the key to success with captive red-eared sliders. For pet red eared slider turtles, one can feed them treats occasionlly, like shrimp, chicken, cucumbers, or tomatoes  You can get most of these things either at a pet food store, or a bait shop for worms, crickets, etc.Recommended Reading: 15 vegetables that you should never give to your Red-Eared Slider, and which fruits and vegetables to feed them instead

How much should i feed my red eared slider? TURTLE OWNERS ONLY!!?

I fed my turtle twice a day, once in the morning and once at night.

Every time i pass by her tank she starts swimming around, making a lot of noise.
I feel she is telling me to feed her because she does the same exact thing when I'm actually feeding her.

Am I supposed to be feeding her more? Or is she being fat and greedy?
I've done my research and all articles I read say that they should not be fed a lot.
I usually give her about 6 to 10 pellets of repto food.

She went as far to eat the black foam that goes inside the filter.
I feel bad but I don't want to overfeed her because she is big?

I need advice from ACTUAL TURTLE OWNERS ONLY!! please
I don't someone to repeat to me what I have already read on the web.

Can I feed my Red-Eared Slider live meal worms?

Yes, you can feed meal worms or any other worms as a treat only. If you feed them only meal worms, they would lack in nutrition (calcium), and the outter hard shell of the meal worms are hard to digest. All live prey, insects, worms, fish, snails, shrimp, crayfish, etc., should only be fed sparingly, once every two weeks.

The main diet of a RES should be pellets 2-3 times a week and leafy greens in the tank all the time. Good luck.
