What Do You Think Adrian Peterson And Ray Rice Did This Weekend

Do you think the Adrian Peterson thing is way over exaggerated?

Whenever a kid gets bruised and cuts, it can be a concern. Peterson may have taken it too far, but I honestly think this is way over exaggerated. Years ago almost every kid got treated that way when they disobeyed, now you hardly touch your kid and you are subject to child abuse.

Do you agree this is over exaggerated?

Adrian Peterson or Ray Rice?

Of the two, Peterson's crime -- and make no mistake, what he did to that child was criminal -- is the more-egregious because he whipped a small, defenseless child.
What Rice did was bad but you can kind of understand where his head was at: The girl is running her big mouth and baiting him, he's drunk and he snaps.

I'm not saying Rice's wife deserved what happened to her but can't imagine ever, ever beating a child. At least an adult woman can defend herself somewhat...a child can't.

We hear so much about Mike Vick, Adrian Peterson and Ray Rice who give all sports a bad name. What professional players do good in their communities?

In all fairness to Ray Rice, he was one of those guys. He probably would still be doing good things in the community had he not be cut by the Ravens. Rice had gained notoriety in Baltimore for his anti-bullying campaign, and more broadly, his work with children. Below is a picture I took from after a Ravens practice. It's of Ray Rice speaking to a group of children from Big Brothers Big Sisters of The Greater Chesapeake (disclosure: I'm a mentor through them) about the importance of doing good and staying on the straight and narrow. Were those words hollow? Quite possibly. I just don't think it's entirely fair to Rice, Vick, Peterson, etc. that showing poor discretion in their personal lives totally discredits the good work they've done in their communities. There are plenty of people in every industry that outwardly philanthropic, but in private are very different. Athletes certainly are no exception. To more directly answer the question, nearly all professional athletes have foundations / charities that they're involved with in the communities in which they play.

Is Adrian Peterson married, with a family?

Adrian Peterson got married earlier this year to Ashley Brown, who is the mother of three-year-old Adrian Jr. So yes, he's married, and they're a family. Peterson's other children, including the little boy he's accused of abusing, live with their mothers. Tragically, one of his children was killed last year by the boyfriend of the child's mother. http://www.theepochtimes.com/n3/...http://nypost.com/2013/10/17/adr...

I'm a Vikings fan. What should I tell my kids about Adrian Peterson?

Sometimes when we watch our favorite team it's almost as if the players are superheroes. When they do bad things we're disappointed and confused. It's better if we understand that they're great players because they're fast and strong, and they have the discipline and persistence to make the most of their abilities. Those are things we can admire them for. But it's important to understand that they're real people with real problems in their real lives. (1)Not everybody has the kind of home you do. Adrian Peterson grew up with parents who punished him the way he punished his little boy. He loved his parents, and he thought that was the right thing to do. Now we hope he'll get help and learn better ways to treat his children, so they won't grow up and treat their kids the same way.(1) Vikings fans may have already had this part of the conversation with their kids; it seems that Vikings players tend to get arrested at a much higher rate than players for other NFL teams. http://blogs.mprnews.org/newscut...

Should Adrian Peterson's NFL suspension for child abuse be more or less than Ray Rice's NFL suspension for domestic abuse?

Punishments for crimes that fall under domestic violence are now automatic, there is no decision making by an individual until the appeals process. The automatic suspension will be 6 games but it could be shortened depending on how the appeal and legal process goes. If Rice's charges are dropped or he's found innocent he'll still likely be suspended but for a shorter period of time (precedent: Ben Roethlisberger, 2010).

Should I trade Adrian Peterson for Julio Jones?

10 person PPR league. My lineup is as follows:

WR: Pierre Garçon
TE: Tony Gonzalez
D/ST: BUF

Beanie Wells
Cedric Benson
Sydney Rice

Why is NFL player Adrian Peterson using a belt to discipline his child after already being punished for it?

You will have to ask Adrian Peterson personally if you want to know the specific reasons for his actions. However, you should keep one fact in mind: history has shown that the manner in which a person has been raised is usually reflected in the way he or she raises his or her offspring. And rarely do rules or other external factors affect this; it is a pattern that is deeply ingrained into one’s personality. Education and exposure to other factors may have some impact upon changes in that behavior, but people will inevitably return to the things they remember most from their own childhood upbringing and experience. “Punishments” by the league are not likely to change such behaviors; a more effective approach might be to require participation in a program dedicated to modifying such behavior based upon psychological education and awareness. The second concern is whether the NFL is overstepping its bounds when it becomes involved in what may be a personal matter unless it is an outright violation of law. An athlete from a different culture could believe such acts to be a normal part of family life…does the NFL have a right to dictate otherwise?
