What Do You Think Are The Most Pretentious Or Overrated Anime

What is the most overrated manga/anime ever?

Overrated over all I would say Naruto, which pretty much troll stuff in. Pokemon, Kanto and Johto was good but after that the show went down hill. Bleach, because it really has no plot, it would have been good if it stopped with Ichigo lost his Shinigami powers, but no they had to give it back.... Claymore, people kept saying it good but I pretty much see no point, it just kill demons and so on and so forth, from all I read nothing really developing.

Most overrated and underrated anime series?

I don't watch a lot of anime at all, but out of the ones I've actually seen, I'd say these are the most overrated:

Death Note (boring, illogical, and very, very pretentious)
Elfen Lied (very pretentious, perverted, illogical, comic relief, plot holes)
Higurashi (annoying, can't seem to take itself seriously, and very cliche)

I'm probably going to be killed for that, but I found the above animes to be overrated, pretentious bullsh!t. Elfen Lied pisses me off the most, since people seem to think it's "deep" and "beautiful", while I see it as poorly thought-out and poorly-drawn. The idea of the mutant race was very cool, but it was executed horribly. But I think the manga is even worse than the anime, since the manga is extremely sexist and basically just soft-core porn.

As for underrated, I'd say it's definitely Serial Experiments: Lain. I don't know why this series doesn't get as much attention as it deserves. It's the one anime I've watched that had so much focus on character development, wasn't pretentious, and actually had a meaningful, logical plot. I also liked that there was little to no comedy relief, which to me shows that the series was actually taking itself seriously.

But anyway, what are the most overrated and underrated animes you've seen, and why?

Is prom overrated?

That depends. If you hate high school and the people there, you shouldn’t go to prom. It’s just a big pretentious expensive dance with decent food. You’ll spend $1000+ on the limo, your tux, his/her corsage, your ticket, your “after party outfit”, after party tickets, the late night diner, and tickets to Six Flags the following day. You’ll take pictures with other people you don’t like, and if you don’t know how to dance, you’ll feel awkward on the dance floor ago and off it.Then again, if you’re enjoying your high school experience and rate it as a 5 or more on a scale of 1–10 (10 meaning that you LOVE high school and will miss it dearly), and you can afford prom, then go. It’ll cost you over $1000+, but you’ll have memories that you’ll cherish forever about who you went with, and what you danced to, and the limo you rode, and the after party, so on.So, think about how you act at parties. If you’re the type to feel uncomfortable and sit on the couch, skip prom.If you’re the type to dance all night, then dance all night at prom.

Why do you think an anime like "Natsume Yuujinchou" is popular?

it has the 5th season now! woohoo!well, because, i think Midorikawa-sensei (the mangaka) is good in delivering the world through Natsume’s point of view, a world of youkai we don’t know (unless you are ‘special’ like Natsume). the way Natsume presents his view to us is so good and fascinating, and bittersweet, and touching, and left a warm feeling in your heart…..not all character could be this perfect.Natsume himself is different from any shounen character in anime/manga. like, you know, he’s ‘pure’ and so sensitive and so considerate, and easy to break down (if you read the manga - i forgot the chapter, but, there are stories from Kitamoto, Nishimura, and Aunt Toukos point of views, each has a chapter. not animated yet.). since the first episode, i could tell my inner ‘girly’ falls into him, like the feeling i want to protect him (ahaha call me weaboo). but as the time goes by, we could see that he grows and becomes stronger! it is a pleasant thing to witness, because the story is reaaaal slow-paced, we enjoyed it unconciously and at some point finally realize, ‘Natsume sure grows up!’. usually characters grow up rather noticeable, for comparison Naruto, given 20 book of comic, Naruto grows from brat in ninja schooling, bad-mannered and ill-tempered brat, to somewhere around chuunin and already make lots of friends and already has a glimpse of ideal. but in Natsume we can see he sometimes stumble unto the most and normal trivial things in his life even after 20 book, and he still struggle in his friendship status, but that’s the lovely part of him. slowly but surely he grows… and it is not even boring. i think that’s amazing.another amazing character for me is Nyanko, although he’s rather noticeable, from the first episode where Nyanko wants the Book, and the 2nd chapter when he already befriend with Natsume. but that’s not the point… In the start, Nyanko isnt really interested in human, or human feeling, but later he became aware even of Natsume’s slightest uneasy feeling (in 5th season it is clearer). i think it is amazing how an oldie like Nyanko can be moved by Natsume’s pure feeling…Midorikawa-sensei did really a good job in Natsume Yuujinchou.

Why do so many people feel that Sword Art Online is overrated?

Well sword art online is heck lot overrated probably due to its Animation, World building ,plot development and characters but it got totally deviated from the context of the plot they were planning to convey from refreshing VRMMORPG , sci-fi and isekai ( life in another world ) genre towards harem and romanceWell they put a lot of efforts on the first season and it becoming an instant hit among the fandom due to its Virtual reality and MMORPG elements but with the new season the plot and the storyboard went downhill exponentially don't knows what’s gotten into Reki kawaharaBut i would probably recommend the SAO alternative Gun Gale online (GGO) which is on air currently ( every Saturday ) it has stuck to its plot and probably doesn't feel like unnecessary content getting shoved at the audienceIt's written by Keiichi sigasawa and its really goodThis is the one :)

What are some of the most annoying anime clichés?

The anime cliches I hated the most are:Young children save the world (or behaving like adults). You're 12 years old! You can't run an entire crime empire or spy network or whatever. You're in elementary school! You don't get into philosophical discussions about the meaning of happiness! You're teenagers, you don't go around saving the world. (well.. Okay, western YA is the same, but somehow teenage boys with spiky hair seem more ridiculous).an extension of this cliche mentioned by comments: kids get to use powerful magic, practice dangerous martial arts, regularly put themselves in danger to help/defend the innocent, injured (or killed) other kids (or adults)… But no… they can't drink, they have curfews. (this is the same with western YA books as well, Harry Potter for example, kids get their wand at age 11, can use powerful magic capable of causing a lot of damage or even kill people, but no… buttermilk for you youngsters!)Powerful demons devoted to seemingly unremarkable young kids because … they'll get their soul when they die. Really? what's so special about their soul?! It's a stupid trade no decent demon would do. I really hate this trope. (Yes, I'm looking at you Black Butler).Signing contract with demons are very popular trope in Anime. But some does it better than others. For example, 百鬼夜行抄 have a powerful dragon demon signed a contract with a writer to protect his young grandson. The dragon demon wasn't happy, he doesn't want to do it, he doesn't show up unless the grandson is in life threatening danger. And that creates a very interesting tension between the protagonist and his demon pet.“You kept saying no, but your body says yes~” OMG I hate this trope SO FUCKING MUCH. It usually happens between men seducing a girl (literally under age), and the girl would say “NO" but the man keeps going. And eventually the girl relented and turns out she really did want it, just too shy to say it… This is the reason we have fucking rape culture!Oh and, like another answer mentioned: If the main character is a student, they almost always sits in the second to last row right next to a window. (Reason being: can draw less students behind/around them).

Is the Gawain Nightmare Fame the strongest, and most superior Mech in the series?

No, not even close. HOWEVER it's much like the Lancelot as it's basically a bunch of cutting edge work stuffed into 1 machine to see how it runs. It's the first one to use the Hadron Cannons(they were working yet, but they were closest around), the first to use Combat Sized Flight Packs(the other versions at the time were to bulky to stick onto a Knightmare and be useable), it's fingers are mini Slash Harkins(something Bismark's Galahad would inherit), and it has the Druid System(which helps predict enemy movement to a certain extent). It's actual intended use was not for combat at all, the Druid System was actually meant to navigate the Thought Elevator, and it's rather slow and bulky, easily being outmaneuvered even by Gloucester, such as Cornelia doing so. It was more of a testing ground over all, but due to the sheer level of tech put into it was still one of the strongest 7th Generation Knightmares. Note that the Lancelot Albion and Guren SEITEN are 9th Generation, they are leagues above the Gawain. However both the Galahad and Shinkiro are made directly from it's design(Galahad) or its leftover equipment(Shinkiro). They are powerful 8th Generation Knightmare's better then the original Lancelot, Lancelot Conquista(what Suzaku had as Knight of 7), the Guren Mk2, or the Guren Flight Enabled(and pretty much on par with Siegfried). But even they aren't even close to 9th Generation Knightmare Frames
