What Do You Think Is My Nationality

What do you think my nationality is?

first think I thought was how pretty you were, and how I want your eyebrows! lol... and I was thinking maybe an Italian mix, or some kind of Arab.

What do you think it the hottest nationality?

Brazilians

What would you think my nationality is based on my appearance?

The only way you can have a mixed nationality is if you have dual citizenship.

Nationality is not the same thing as ethnicity or ancestral heritage. It is not the country of origin of your ancestors.

The U.S. State Department defines it as citizenship.

Some dictionaries define it as where you are born. Now this can get very murky. In the U.S. we grant citizenship to people born here to foreign nationals. Not every country does the same.

Now some dictionaries have added as a definition a person's ethnicity but they are bowing to incorrect usage by many people.

I grew up around people with a Nativist attitude. Those people themselves called the children and grandchildren of late 19th century and early 20th century immigrants as "their nationality is German" "their nationality is Italian, etc" There was an implication in their attitude that somehow those children and grandchildren of immigrants were not as American as they were. Unfortunately too many of those descendants of those immigrants heard them referred to that way and they have been guilty of calling their nationality by being the nation of their ancestors and that is absolutely incorrect. They are denigrating themselves as American citizens unknowingly.

If you were born in Ireland have Irish citizenship, your nationality is Irish.
If you were born in the U.S. and have American citizenship, no dual citizenship but your ancestors came from Ireland, your nationality is nothing but American. Your ethnicity is Irish.

We get a lot of questions on the genealogy board by kids confusing nationality with ethnicity. I tell them if they have friends that call their nationality by the country of their ancestors to tell them they are talking stupid. Which they are. However, you can't go around telling adults that. Your parents can ground you for that.

Now that being said, in genealogy we really don't go by appearance in determining ancestry. We simply go by documents/records. Genealogy and Genetics are not the same thing. However, you are a very pretty young lady and a lot of nationalities, ethnicities and families would be happy to claim you.

How to find my Nationality for free?

Well I've always wanted to know what country(ies) I'm from. I have asked my family members, which all say they don't know, and I have searched the internet for a free way to find it and found nothing so either you can't, or I'm an idiot. So if this is possible just list the name of the website, or source where I can. And yes I know libraries work, but I do not have the time to spend a day there. Thanks in advance.

What nationality do you think I am? And guess my surname origin?

I would choose German. Btw, you kinda look like claire danes. Anyway, the name Gavitt sounds almost like if you said it in different ways it could be French or Italian.

Does my nationality affect my personality?

I would say yes - this is a broad generalisation and there are, of course, plenty of individual characteristics for every member of a nation, but there are certain behaviours and personality traits that a nation of people share. British people, for example, have plenty of these. Living in Britain is a complex experience that one would struggle to master had one not lived here since birth. Very few people manage to accomplish complete integration into the British way of life. I think Ernest W. Adams has given some wonderful answers on this - I’ve often enjoyed reading them and thought he had hit the proverbial nail on the head. But yes, I think due to the nation’s common value structure, and in some cases beliefs, nationality can affect one’s personality.
