What makes someone a bad person? Have you ever met someone that was truly bad?
For a while I worked as a disability support worker. The clientele of the company I worked for were all ex cons, straight out of prison but because of their disabilities, and/or the nature of their crimes, they could not access the community alone.One fellow comes to mind as being pure evil. We will call him Sam but that is not his real name.Sam had an IQ of about 60. He had been charged with molesting a young boy and was awaiting trial.Each of the clients had their own room in a big house in the country. Staff worked 24 hour shifts. Sam’s room always smelled of excrement; he wiped it on the floorboards under the bed. He told me he liked the smell.Something that really bothered Sam was that we would not take him to the slaughter house for an outing. He said he wanted to watch the animals being slaughtered.This was one truly sick individual. He masturbated constantly 15 to 20 times per day. We had to take him to the doctor frequently because his penis would be badly chaffed.One day whilst probing his mind I touched the subject of God. Sam vehemently denied that there was such a thing. This, from a guy with a barely functional IQ, but such a strong conviction.There was something evil about this man. Forget his mental disability. He was wicked in the truest sense of the word. Today I shudder with the knowledge that there are such people sharing our planet.
If mistakes make someone a bad person, then aren’t we all bad people? What makes a person good?
When we say as “ Mistake “, it need not be construed as “Crime” but can be considered as an “Error”, done unintentionally during an activity, that has caused pain or discomfort to somebody. It has got many phases.First you have done some activities.A mistake has happened.Some one is affected.You get the feed back about it.You realize the mistake.You start to correct the damage done.You are very careful , take adequate precautions on, not to repeat the mistake.Now you start learning from others mistakes and decide not to do such mistakes.Now you have transformed yourself from bad to good.
What makes you a bad person?
A bad person is somebody who go against the dictates of his conscience. He is too selfish and treats everybody as objects to use for his own benefit alone. So to be a good person, one has to learn how to overcome his natural selfishness.
Does doing something bad make you a bad person?
if your answer is yes, would that make everyone bad? or are there specific things that even if someone stops doing, you think they are forever a 'bad person'...if so, what things? will someone who did something bad be a bad person forever even if they don't do it again? if your answer is no, what makes someone a bad/good person? is the only way to be a good person to never do anything bad, or are you judged on how you act in the present? ex: an ex murderer/child molester hasn't done either of those things in 12+ years and now does community service, (volunteers, doesn't have to) and lives a normal life and is a good person to people who know him. if you found out someone like this (a seemingly good person) had murdered/molested years and years back, would that make you think they were a bad person or would you see it as transgressions in their past and keep the same opinion of them? what if a person did something really bad when they were young (like under 15 years old) and stopped and felt bad? are they still a bad person forever? and on the other hand, who would you think was a better person? a) someone who murdered (or any other serious bad sin) but stopped, repented, and became a 'good person' and lived a better life b) or someone who never did anything serious but never stopped lying, being rude to others etc. and just kept doing all of that little stuff but never truly became a 'good person'? looking forward to reading your opinions! just wondering...tell me what you think :)
Does smoking and drinking make someone a bad person?
Who is a bad person ?Someone who:Hurts others through his/her actions and words.Violates the laws of the land through illegal activities.Is unkind and manipulative.Drinking and smoking are part of people’s lifestyle choices. Some do it responsibly and are considerate of their surroundings and society while others do not. Until and unless they start affecting the above attributes in a person, we cannot term the person as ‘bad’. Yes, the long term health effects on the person maybe ‘bad’, but it does not necessarily mean that the person himself/herself is bad.Take a few scenarios :XYZ comes home drunk and starts beating up wife and children.XYZ smokes in front of his 5 year old nephew making him a passive smoker.XYZ consumes cheap spurious alcohol and dies of liver damage leaving behind pregnant wife with nowhere to go.XYZ and group consume alcohol and start harrasing a woman on the road.XYZ under the influence of alcohol vandalizes a public place (say a pub) due to denial of more alcohol.Now these are some real life scenarios where you can say that the person is too irresponsible, careless and lousy (read : “bad”).And also, if a person shows such traits under the influence of alcohol you can be sure that he/she certainly has those traits inherently without alcohol consumption as well. That the inherent thinking and nature of the person is bad and it has come up on the surface more aggressively due to the presence of alcohol.
