What Do You Think Of An Idea About A Teenage Novel Set In The Future

Futuristic Reality Show Novels (Like the Hunger Games)?

Are there any books like The Hunger Games, or Surviving Antarctica : Reality TV 2083? Something about reality tv shows in the future like how The Hunger Games is a reality show about children killing each other in an annual competition. And how Surviving Antarctica : Reality TV 2083, is about children entering a competition to be sent to re-enact parts of history in different parts of the world, in order to earn money for high school/college, while the citizens watch on TV. Do you know any books like these? I prefer YA books.

How hard is it to write a dystopian novel set in the future where a nuke destroys the world's order?

not that hard. it depends on who the person writing is. if the person cannot write at all or has no skills in that area it will be more difficult than it is for a person such as a practicing writer with skills in that area. look to fallout, they created a world, a situation, and then they were able to write stories around that environment. that is what i reccomend doing- creating a simple or if so desired, a complex world or worlds and build a story around that. the world creating will be complicated but i cant say if it is difficult or not. once i got used to making them, they have become easier- punch and go, plug and unplug, etc.....i hope this helps-REBEL

What are some young adult books set in the future that aren't dystopian?

Your question has me stumped. Dystopian books are hugely popular now, so pretty much every futuristic book I can think of is in some way dystopian (Hunger Games, Divergent, Matched, Maze Runner, Knife of Never Letting Go, etc.). The word in the industry is that editors are sick of this genre now and aren't acquiring so many of these manuscripts anymore, but there are still quite a few in the pipeline acquired in the last couple of years. So more are going to be published, but in a few years they'll taper off and you'll see more realistic contemporary fiction, which is what editors are most interested in now.But then I started to compare with adult books. Are there futuristic adult books that aren't dystopian? Certainly there's plenty of dystopian stuff for adults too (examples: The Wind-Up Girl by Paolo Bacigalupi, who also writes for kids; Oryx and Crake and The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood). I think dystopias reflect the fact that most of us worry about many concerns when we think about the future: pollution, climate change, exhaustion of natural resources, totalitarian governments. There are some futuristic, not-particularly-dystopian books for adults, most of them straight science fiction (like, say, Terry Pratchett). So, going back to kids' books, is there straight science fiction for kids that isn't dystopian? An example that comes to mind is the middle grade adventure book Space Jackers by Huw Powell, which is like an adenture shoot-'em-up set in outer space. I'm sure there are similar books at the YA level, though I can't name any off the top of my head (it's not what I usually read). So, I'd say the picture in the children's book world is roughly the same as in the adult book world: there's a lot of dystopian fiction out there; futuristic books that aren't dystopian are usually straight sci fi and set in outer space rather than on planet Earth.

Survival futuristic story idea?

There are some already-published SF stories with survival themes (f.ex., the "Hunger Games" trilogy, or some of Robert Heinlein's novels, such as "Farnham's Freehold") - but it sounds like you need to compose an original story set in the future with a survival theme. Maybe a training exercise for a futuristic military unit on an alien planet, or a fledgling new human colony, or a shuttle crash on a thinly-settled and/or largely low-tech planet, where the protagonist has to trek cross-country to the nearest spaceport. If fanfic is allowed, use any of the above plots with a setting in your favorite SF TV/movie/game/book series. All of the above plots have been used in published SF novels by established authors already, so try to make sure your story isn't too close to something already written.

I'm writing a novel set in 2034. What predictive resources might I consult to gain a sense of international relations and geopolitics in the future?

George Friedman's "The Next 100 Years"http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/07...He and the Stratfor team do a good job of identifying broad trends. They make predictions but acknowledge that they are less likely to be spot-on the further out you get. Good food for thought. Also, Kurzweil's books are useful if you think AI is a big part of our future. References to them are at:http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/T...

Can a dystopian novel have magic?

Hi, Y!A users.

I want to know if a novel with dystopian setting can have magic. I don't mean minor magic were only one character can use it. I mean a novel in which 13 (main) characters have magic powers and the whole novel is focused on them trying to find out about their roots so as to avoid imminent danger in their future (or something like that). Also, the dystopian theme is heavily made clear for about two thirds of the book.
