Why is Jethro Tull not in the Rock 'N Roll Hall of Fame?
The relationship between the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame and prog rock has always been uneasy, probably because for a long time the nominating committee consisted for a large part of music critics that leaned more to punk, and for a large chunk of the past decades, prog was considered to be uncool music made by dinosaurs. Pink Floyd was inducted in 1996, but they were the exception.The last years, they have been playing catch-up. The fans became more and more outspoken, including musicians with a big influence on the Hall of Fame like Lars Ulrich and Dave Grohl. Those fans buy tickets to the Induction Ceremony to see their favourite band finally get their long overdue recognition.In the past years, we saw the induction of 1970s classic rock bands that fans were practically demanding to get inducted, including:Genesis (2010)Alice Cooper (2011)Rush (2013)KISS (2014)Chicago (2016)Deep Purple (2016)Journey (2017)Yes (2017)For next year, The Moody Blues are among the nominees and are generally considered to be a likely inductee. After them, they’ll be looking for the next “progressive” act on the ballot. Jethro Tull might very well be that act.
