What Do You Think Of This Name For A Baby Boy

What do you think of the name "Tomasz" for a baby boy?

I love it.My husband and I chose a Polish name for our son. I like how it is unique and common at the same time. That is, the full version of his name is really unusual here in the US, but he goes by a shortened version that is pretty popular. There’s also a Polish diminutive that family members use.Tomasz could go by Tom, Tommy, Tomek, etc. He’ll have a lot of options.

What do you think of the name Ingmar for a baby boy?

For what it’s worth, I wanted to answer this question as a person who was also given an unusual classic actor’s name. Some of the challenges they will face with a name like this:“Did you say your name was Earl? Harold? Darryl? Ariel? How do you spell that? Was your mom an Errol Flynn fan?” It gets old explaining not only the correct pronunciation, but the spelling and then the reason you have such an unusual name. It got so bad that I started to introduce myself as “Bo.” I have spelled and pronounced my name thousand of times over the course of my lifetime. I am over it.When you’re a little kid, other kids are looking for anything to make fun of. An unusual name makes for easy pickings. At a time you want to just fit in and not be different, it makes you very different. “What kind of a name is… Errol??” (followed by laughs), was something I had to learn to work around. If you go to a restaurant and they ask for your name to call your order, it becomes a big deal for people to write it down and pronounce it. Same if you’re trying to say your name over a phone or place some kind of order, especially if they are international.A name like this will look unusual on blind resumes. People won’t quite know what to make of it, and that might cause Ingmar to not get selected for an interview. You just generally get tired of having the unusual name. Sometimes you want a name that people just get and understand right off. It’s not like the name makes the person, either; Robert Deniro wouldn’t be less of an actor if his name was something unusual. Neither would Ed Harris. Or Emma Stone. The name didn’t make them cool and unusual, their talent and personalities did, which is all that will really matter. So I get it, you want your child to be unique and stand out a bit, and you don’t want a cookie cutter name. Why not make Ingmar their middle name instead? That way, if they like it, they can make the choice themselves to go by it.And if they don’t? You will have blessed them with a name they can tell people once… and go on to live a peaceful life waiting near the lunch counter for their name to be read knowing it won’t shut the line down because no one can pronounce it.

What do you think of the baby boy name Dempsey?

Katie, I believe that you have to be very careful when choosing a name for your baby because that child will have to live with it for the rest of his or her life. It really is a huge responsibility for us as parents.

That said, many people have been given unusual names and have grown up to be very strong characters and their unusual names add to that character. However, I believe that the name Dempsey could be turned into many nasty nicknames by your child's friends, and that you might be resented for it.

Please rethink your choice very carefully!

What do you think of the name "Kyree" for a baby boy?

I know alot of people with odd names like that. Almost all of them go by nicknames, and they are embarassed by their real names. My advice is to name your child something that you would like to be named. The child will usually not be happy with anything too unusual. Go to some baby name sites, and pick something a little more pleasing to the ear. There are plenty of great names, that you wont regret later in life. But whatever you do, dont name your kid Kyree...

What do you think of the name "Abner" for a baby boy?

*rolls eyes* Ignore all the ridiculous comments others have made. The people who have said it's old etc, really need to stop being so narrow-minded, we don't all want to name our children Nevaeh Sparkly Princess and Hunter McButch Killer.

Anyway, to answer your question, I ADORE THIS NAME! I have two sons, and my husband and I considered it both times, and the only reason we didn't use it, is it didn't work so well with our surname.

I slightly prefer the original Hebrew form, Avner, but I still adore Abner!

It's a wonderful name, some people have no taste!

I personally think Harlem is cute. I like Noah Harlem and I like Harlem Noah.
Don't pay attention to the smart*sses who said the gangster remark and the NYC boroughs remark. I kind embarrasingly like Manhattan for a boy. And I know a Brooklyn and I know a Stratton which sounds like Staten, so you know what go for Harlem as a first name.
