What Do You Think Of This Singing

SINGING: What do you think of my singing?

First, singing without accompaniment, you maintained pitch.  So you have a good ear and enough skill to use it.  Your natural voice is a little raw and inconsistent, that is the overtones vary, especially on longer notes.  There are two things to improve that.  One, take voice lessons, learn breath control to support your tone.  Two, sing, sing, sing.  All the time. Practice by singing just one long tone and try to maintain the same quality.  Breathe from your diaphragm, putting a hand on your lower belly to make sure the breath is coming from there.  Join a choir and learn how to blend your voice with others, which will take some edge off (inconsistent overtones are what make you edgy).  That said, a lot of singers, particularly folk/country/rock, use an edge to give them a distinct sound, so it's not necessarily a bad thing, particularly if you use it on the right songs.  (The one you chose is a ballad, which is tougher.)  Think Rod Stewart or Rick Danko with The Band (you can tell how old I am).  Overall, I think you have a good start and are already better than average.  With more practice (suggestion 2), you should end up with a good singing voice. One more thing.  Before performing, singers always warm up.  There are standard forms of doing that, singing scales, la la la la, starting with a low note and sweeping up to a high one, doing arpeggios, like the notes of a chord, up and down.  At least one-two minutes before you begin recording.  Choral conductors usually warm up their singers before practice.

What do you think of my singing?

Hi Erika,Your friends are right, you do have a nice voice. You should audition with confidence because I doubt you will embarrass yourself. However, you might think about auditioning with one of the songs from the school musical. That way you will know whether you can sing in the style needed. Go in it even if you don't get a role - the chorus is more fun anyhow (no pressure). Some more advice - join a good choir. You and your voice will be welcomed and you will gain some valuable singing lessons. Choirs are great training grounds for breathing, singing in tune and sight singing.Good luck.

What do you think of my singing voice?

What kind of play is it?  I would say you are neither naturally very talented nor bad.  I think there is potential, and I think regardless you should be willing to give it a try.  This way the teacher can hear and guide you. However, you definitely sound like you are pushing your voice and yelling.  Put simply, it sounds like you're trying too hard, having to strain.  You're going nasal and you're trying too hard to work the style of the song, without really singing.  I wasn't familiar with the song so I listened to the original.  There are times when there should be some notes held with natural vibrato kicking in and I don't hear any from you.  Maybe you can try posting something simple and not stylistic, to give a better idea of your skillset.  Even singing Happy Birthday will be beneficial in evaluating your natural singing voice.I'd recommend that you find a teacher to listen to you in person and help guide you.  Pushing your voice like that can damage your voice, and yelling like this through many play practices, if your teacher isn't vocally savvy but still lets you have a role just to be included, would not be good.  If you can just learn some basics of good vocal health, it would help.  I think you have a nice tone.  Wtih training, you'd be able to remove some of the nasality and sound much better.  I can hear potential, but definitely take some lessons and get training from a good vocal teacher.

What do you think of my singing? Good or bad?

I was diagnosed very young with a hearing imparment. Apparently I don't hear a range of sounds. Still, when I was a preteen, I was offered the opportunity to take music or dance lessons as an after school activity. I thought it would be cool to play the guitar. My family hired a music teacher to give me weekly lessons.  The teacher insisted on teaching me songs that I had never heard before. At the end of two years, he got up in disgust and said that I was "tone deaf", I was "unteachable", and he went home and committed suicide. Obviously, the poor guy had some heavy issues, but as a kid, I was devastated. During the same time period, I was loving my art classes. In fact, in the school district I was in, we were supposed to have one semester of art, and  music the next semester. I was so passionate about art, and it came so easily to me, that when I asked for more art classes, I was granted the leeway to do so. I never took a formal music class in school in my life. I may never be another Michaelangelo, or a Da Vinci. I may never become world famous. But I am an artist. I can not be anything but an artist, or my soul shivels and stultifies. There is no asking permission. There is no, "should I or should I not". I AM an artist, for good or ill, for whatever I can make of my life. What does this have to do with your singing? Well, for one, I literally cannot be a judge of how good or bad you are. But I do know this much. When I take technical lessons in the field I'm passionate about, I never ask if I should. I only ask how can I afford them! So maybe you have answered your own question by asking it.

What do you think of my singing? I don't sing too well but just want opinions and ways to improve. See it here- http://vocaroo.com/i/s0wYSLSuXPmv.

The key sounded a bit too low for you honestly and your lower range sounded not terrible but uncomfortable. Your upper register sounded much better.Your actual voice wasn’t bad and sounded like it would be good for Alanis Morissette type songs. Find a key that is comfortable to sing in. I’ve been a singer for more than 40 years and the biggest mistake I see is people trying to sing in a key that they are suited for. I always say I can sing just about any song written as long as it is in the right key. When I was overseas there were 100’s of karaoke clubs and it seems that my friends loved going to them. If I went I would have them change the key for certain songs so they were in my range and comfort zone. Just because you like a song doesn’t mean you should try amd sing it especially if it is not in a key you’re not able to sing it in.Keep on practicing and find your key and you will do fine.

Do you think cats respond to singing?

I am actually a singer and my "call" to one of my kitties is a little riff of her name... she responds to it and trots over when she hears it. Cats respond to soothing voices anyway, and they respond better to higher pitched voices, so singing calming kitty would make sense. You don't sound weird, you sound loving! People sing to their babies all the time, it's just, your baby happens to be furry with ears that stick up! :)

What do you think of Tonedeff's singing?

I think he's a great all around artist, and I'm surprised he hasn't really blown commercially because he can do it all. He first caught my attention on the last one you posted (Gathered). I thought it was a joke at first, but then I was like oh sh*t, this dude can actually sing.
