What Do You Think The California Shooter Would Think If He Knew People Were Still Laughing At Him

Do you think that the Thousand Oaks (California) mass shooting with 12 dead will trigger a national debate on gun control or will it be just another routine event? What more is required to stir a nation’s conscience?

No, because the actions of a crazy person are not enough to punish millions of lawful gun owners. Perhaps we should review the laws on how we handle crazy and potentially dangerous people, instead of attempting yet again, to punish millions of people because of the actions of a few. Every time it’s a person that is a known nutcase but nobody could do anything because the crazy person “has rights”. But conveniently, my right to bear arms is always the one that is brushed aside as outdated, wrong, stupid, etc. And gun owners are harangued, blamed and attacked for the actions of others. This is of course not acceptable to do to any other group, other than gun owners (and white people). And please stop with the emotionally manipulative phrases like “stir a nation’s conscience”. I don’t have any problems with my conscience, because I’m not a criminal and therefore I am not responsible for the actions of anyone else. It’s like blaming someone who drinks alcohol, for the actions of a drunk driver that killed a bunch of people while drunk. Do all alcohol drinkers have their consciences appealed to, every time that occurs? No. But all gun owners are expected to take responsibility and give up their guns, due to the actions of others.Quite frankly, I am tired of being punished for the actions of others. That’s all society is now, decent and law abiding hard workers, being forced to support, fund and subsidize people that do nothing but cause problems, refuse to take responsibility and live off of others. And it’s just never good enough. Why bother to do the right thing when all you do is get punished and harassed and attacked? But let’s say you get everyone’s guns this time. Then what’s next? Knives, like in the UK? When do the acid attacks start? Will you ban pool cleaning supplies and kitchen knives? Fertilizer? Box cutters? Where does it stop? I’d love to see the appeal to the consciences of pool owners once acid is being thrown in people’s faces. “How dare you own a pool! Such capitalist decadence!” or whatever. We aren’t a nation of children and I don’t need the government to tell me what I can or cannot own. Deal with the PEOPLE that cause problems, not an inanimate object.

Is shooting someone with a BB gun illegal?

yup, fairly sure he can get in alot of trouble for that.

....a side note. i have a BB rifle in the house for the squirrel that lives in my eaves...i have tried to block him, but he keeps coming back. I seen him running across the trees in my hard, and i popped him with the gun. i run out there to make sure hes dead, so my wife and 4 kids are in the window with the gun

my wife waits till i bend over to pick up the squirrel, and she literally shot me right in the butthole....thank god i had jeans on. it hurt like an SOB

everyone in the house was laughing their rears off...all i could think about was..what a bulls eye.

Is there a situation where you cannot shoot someone that is unwelcome on your property?

The laws vary a great deal between each state. You'll need to contact local authorities and ask them. In Texas we recently enacted the "castle law", which gave people greater rights in protecting their property. Recently, a man near Houston shot and killed two illegal immigrants that were breaking into his neighbor's home -- his life was not threatened, but his neighbor's property was. Charges against him were dropped and many groups came out to support him.

While I was in the Marines and stationed in California, drive-by shootings were common. Both of my roommates were also from Texas. We used to laugh, saying we didn't have problems with drive-by shootings in Texas because people were afraid you'd shoot back!

Anyways, if they are bold enough to walk into your garage while you are home, I would not be surprised if they are armed. If you decide to confront them with a weapon, be prepared for several weapons to be pointed back in your direction. I recommend having 9-1-1 on the phone while observing the teens from a discreet position and having your gun handy.

Is President Obama taking the Charleston shooting as an advantage for his gun control initiative?

Not in any serious way.President Obama has arguably been softer on gun control than any president in decades.  Not because he loves guns, but because, before he even got into office, the gun wing of the American right was 100% convinced, based on nothing at all, that he was coming for our guns.  So much so, in fact, that they proceeded to buy ammunition literally faster than it could be produced, and then claim that ammunition being out of stock was Obama's doing.President Obama knew from word one that the slightest, most incremental move to regulate guns in any way would mean a political fight that would never end, and he didn't want to spend his entire administration fighting with the NRA.  One high profile shooting after another was not enough to make a real different in that analysis. Now that he's nearing the end of his second term, he's probably frustrated that nothing has really been done, and is certainly more willing to comment on it, but realistically, the pro-gun forces in the U.S. are too committed and too powerful for anything to change.Saying he's making a political issue of this is nonsense.  Like any good leader, he's looking at a tragedy and asking what we can do to stop it from happening again.  I'm sure he thinks that some method of gun control might help, but that's just not realistic in this climate.

What would happen if high-capacity magazines were banned?

Banning "high-capacity" magazines sounds so easy, but when you get into the details it quickly gets complicated.  Let's explore the practical issues a moment.  Are you proposing banning new manufacture or possession?  Keep in mind that there are millions upon millions of magazines out there.  There is at least one 17-round magazine floating around in my shooting stuff that fits a gun I don't even own.  I can't swear that it's the only one.  If you are going to ban possession, the law will need some teeth.  So you'll make accidental felons of pretty ordinary people.  That will generate some resistance, so let's assume that there's some good-faith amnesty provision to keep the guys who misplaced a magazine out of jail.  Now you have all these guys lining up to turn in their magazines.  But wait!  Doesn't the Fifth Amendment prohibit taking property without compensation?  What's fair compensation?  Can they take them off their taxes?  Is this in the budget?  Will Mayor Bloomberg pony up a purchase fund?  Not holding my breath.Assume you somehow wave a magic wand and make all the evil over-ten-round magazines disappear and never come back.  Never mind that most magazines work exactly like a PEZ candy dispenser and can be manufactured with simple tools, let's assume.  So all magazines are now "safely" (sic) under ten rounds.  A narcissistic freak like the Isla Vista killer just loads up a bunch of magazines (he had over 40 magazines).
