What Does A Bit Of Dark Brown Mushy Stool Mean

Is brown stool mixed with dark green/black okay?

The way to determine if the blood in a stool is from the esophagus, stomach or doudenum that it will be a “dark tarry” (read ink black) in color. If you see bright red or even pinkish blood it is fromthe intestines. Scant bright red streaks along the length od a stool speciman internal hemorrhoidal. Ditto darker well formed clots that look like liver sigmoid colon and/ or hemorrhoidal.

What does mushy white poop in a puppy mean?

There are a couple of possibilities....

"White, chalky stools are often an indication of a high level of calcium in the diet, such as eating bones or having a wholly raw diet. In these cases, the white feces are not a cause for concern. If you are not sure, you can adjust his diet and see if this helps solve the problem. If you are sure that your dog's diet or medication is not responsible, it is worth having your dog thoroughly examined by a vet to rule out any underlying health problems. Feces do not normally turn white in response to a worm infection - normally dog owners will notice a little blood or mucus instead - but you can give your dog an affordable over-the-counter worming treatment to be sure."

BUT, it can also be something more serious.. liver damage/failure..

Feces are colored by bile acids produced by the liver and stores/released by the gall bladder. Those are pigments in the green, ocre, & brown category with some yellowish stuff.

When feces become white and urine becomes brown, that means the liver is in "end stage" failure and the bile pigments are being lost in the urine instead of the feces, which indicates a terminal condition. White feces in the absence of dark urine may mean other things. [however, white means white, not just light or pale].

Your best bet is to take a fresh sample of the white feces to the vet, to have it tested.

Is light brown poop better to have or dark poop?

the browness of poop comes from the pigment bilirubin secreted in bile, which is then mixed with the digested food. Without this pigment poop is a paler color and one reason why this pigment would not reach the food is by gallstones blocking the kidneys.
color of poop has little to do with healthy diet but if your poop is pale - thats a bad thing.

My hamsters poop is light brown but it doesnt have wet tail?

You don't have anything to worry about. Only when your hamster gets wet tail, is lethargic, or isn't eating is when you should worry. Consider that he is still a baby, and is just starting to become active, so perhaps this sudden increased activity is the culprit?

Get some sleep and let your hamster run on his wheel. Also, ask a vet or a pet store about this, the best foods for hamsters, and medicines for when/if they get dry tail. Pet stores do carry this medicine.

What does it mean when part of your bowel movements is black?

Most people having (especially only partly) black feces have it because of something they ate, be it iron tablets, many green leaved veggies, other dark colored fruit, even as suggested in Enrique Pareja's answer to What does it mean when part of your bowel movements is black? because of eating ink fish cooked in their own ink.The black color often has a greenish hue, iron ingestion causes a black greyish color but the feces isn't "glistening".In a gastro-intestinal bleed however, the feces looks tarry glistening deep black (not greyish), and has a special "sweet" smell once smelled nobody will ever forget, just ask nurses working in a hospital, the smell of a patient having a serious bleed can be smelled all down the corridor. We should think of it if when having stomach aches, or using meds which can cause internal bleeds usually Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug,  binging on alcohol is also an often seen cause of a stomach bleed be it because of alcoholic erosive gastritis, of because of vomiting and retching can cause mucosal tears (Mallory–Weiss syndrome) which can bleed and cause vomiting up blood, nowadays we do not consider the use of glucocorticosteroids to be related to stomach bleeds anymore. If in doubt see a doc, preferably taking with you a small sample of the offending stool in a small container so the doc can see (and smell) it for her/himself.

How does your poop tell your health?

Different kinds of poo indicate different things (yeahhh i know this is kinda gross but you can detect problems with your health by looking at your poo)
TYPE 1 - Seperate hard lumps, like nuts. Harder to pass
This indicates that you have a lack of fibre, insufficient fluid intake and a slow transit time. Increase your intake of water, herbal teas, raw fruit and vegetables, cooked grains such as brown rice, quinoa and millet, sprouted pulses, flax seeds and olive oil. Avoid meat, dairy, wheat, eggs, refined carbohydrates and sugar

TYPE 2 - Sausage shape but lumpy
This indicates the stool has spent too long in the colon. More water and fibre are needed. Increase your intake of water, herbal teas, fruit and vegetables, cooked grains such as brown rice, quinoa and millet, sprouted pulses, flax seeds and olive oil. Avoid meat, dairy, wheat, eggs, refined carbohydrates and sugar.

TYPE 3 - Like a sausage but with cracks on the surface
the cracks on the surface indicate that the stool maybe a bit dry. Increase water intake.

TYPE 4 - Like a sausage or snake, smooth and soft
This is a healthy bowel movement that is easy to pass - well done!

TYPE 5 - Soft blobs with clear cut edges which pass easily
This may indicate that your bowels are moving a bit too fast. This can lead to nutrient deficiencies and dehydration. Increase your fibre especially from cooked whole grains such as brown rice, millet and quinoa. Supplementing with probiotics may well improve digestion and absorption. Psyllium husks can also improve bowel movements.

TYPE 6 - Fluffy pieces with ragged edges, a mushy stool
Again, the mushiness indicates that insufficient water has been re-absorbed from the stool, indicating a rapid transit time and poor absorption of nutrients. This may be caused by poor diet, food intolerances and/or an imbalance in gut bacteria. Eat whole grains as indicated above. Avoid having too much fruit, raw vegetables and juices for a while. Supplement with probiotic capsules or powder to repopulate the gut with good bacteria.

TYPE 7 Watery, no solid pieces. Entirely liquid
This is not good and probably indicates an infection of some kind. Get checked out by your doctor. Eat well cooked brown rice and home made vegetable soups to replace lost electrolytes. Make sure you replace lost fluids with water or herbal teas. Probiotics can help to repopulate the gut with good bacteria.
