What Does A Marine Caption Do

Can marine engineers become a captain?

No, Marine Engineers can't become Captains as Marine engineers and a captain handle completely different departments on a ship. While a captain is responsible for the charting, navigation, communications and other ‘on deck’ jobs, marine engineers go onto become Chief Engineers and are responsible for the maintenance and well being of all the complex machinery onboard a ship.(the under deck jobs)To become a Captain one needs to do a course in Nautical science, enroll as a deck Cadet and gain experience to be promoted as a captain(several exams and steps in between) . While marine engineers need a degree in B.Tech Marine Engineering, then enroll as an engine Cadet, gain experience, give exams and with time and promotion become a Chief engineer.Hope this helps you.

How many years does it take to become a captain in marine engineering?

I’m assuming that by Captain you mean the master of ship. In which case, you would not be able to become the Captain of a ship. The highest possible ranking you can become as a engineering officer is Chief Engineer. You would have to be part of the deck department in order to become a Captain.Typically though, it would take around 10 years, sometimes less, to become the Captain. You would have to go to a maritime school and start out as a 3rd mate. From 3rd mate you become a 2nd mate, then chief mate, and finally captain. The hierarchy essentially look like this.Having said this, the Chief Engineer’s job is just as important as the Captains’. Without the Chief Engineer or engineering department in general, the ship would not be able leave port or work at all. The ship would be a big floating metal island in the middle of the ocean. It’s up to you though, if you wish to do marine engineering and be the one who makes sure that all the shipboard systems are functioning, then by all means. If you want to be the one to eventually supervise and take responsibility for everything that happens to and on the ship then become a mate. It’s personal preference.

Should Marines take orders from an army captain in the battlefield if their Marine captain or higher ranked official is dead or incapable?

First there is no such thing as a Marine Soldier. a Marine is a Marine. a Soldier is a member of the Army. A Sailor is in the Navy, and an Airmen in in the Air Force. If a Marine is not in the chain of command of an Army unit then there will be no reason for them to follow orders of an Army Officer. In some cases Marine Units get attached to Army units such was the case in WW1 and WW2. More often the higher command might be Army but that would be many levels above and be a General. This was the case for General Petraeus being in charge of Iraq. Though the officers working under him are apart of the higher command element they are not actually in the chain of command. An example would be that at one point I was working directly for the company commander but it did not give me any authority over any of the platoon members of the company. The Chain of Command is an important structure especially in the Marine Corps, in boot camp you are required to memorize your chain of command from you DI all the way up to the President of the United States. So an Army Captain in the battlefield may be an attachment to your Marine Unit and not actually in your chain of command, or you may be two separate units putting each captain in an independent chain of command that has the same higher command i.e. the Second Battle of Fallujah where we had multiple units from the USMC and Army conducting the same operation but not as intermingled units, each unit had its own lane of operation. Even when Marines are on a MEU(Marine Expeditionary Unit) which is a joint deployment with the navy the Naval personnel are in separate commands and the USMC is considered a Department of the Navy and we fall under the Secretary of the Navy in our chain of command.

Does the U.S. Marine Corps use UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters for Air Assault and Troop Transport?

Sikorsky VH-3D (Sea King) or known as Marine One is what the President use for transport by the U.S. Marine Corps. The only helicopters in the marine corps are the AH-1 Cobra, CH-53E Super Stallion, CH-46 Sea Knight, and UH-1Y Huey.

H-60G Pave Hawk, MH-53J/M Pave Low III/IV,UH-1H/N/V Huey are used by the Air Force.

HH/UH-1N, CH-53D Sea Stallion, H-3 Sea King, H-53E Sea Dragon, SH-60 Sea Hawk, TH-57 Sea Ranger, VH-3D Sea King, V-22A Osprey, VH-60N Night Hawk are used by the Navy

Do Marine aviators become carrier Captains?

No.Commanding most ships and most boats (the 4th para below covers the possible exception) is for the US Navy.Marines do not even command Higgins boats (troop-landing barges) that drop them off on hostile beaches. The Marines’ job is to get off the landing barge fast to start killing and wounding as many opposers as possible, before opposers do the same to them.Marine raiders who get to shore in inflatable boats are in charge of those. The US Army has or apparently once had more ships than the US Navy. I believe that stock of vessels has been whittled back since WWII. Those vessels were troop transports and supply ships, which I assume were commanded by Merchant Marines.Neither the US Army nor USMC has a Military Occupational Specialty for ship handling. But that does not keep the US Army from owning floating transport stock. Ownership gets around the Army’s having to beg the Navy for ships in time of urgent need. But now the US Army flies to distant points, courtesy of the USAF.

How often do marines get to see there families? do marines get to see family on hollidays?(christmas,4th ect?)

...all Military get "30" days a year leave (vacation). then too, if assigned to a "State-side" post... "they" get "liberty" (days off/time off) on a regular basis. "If" deployed over-seas in a combat area... there are "special" times that can be accumulated for "time in service"... but remember... the Military is a 365, 24/7 service and sometimes holidays are just another day of service.

How can I become a ship captain after doing marine engineering?

Well, sorry to disappoint you, but a Marine Engineer can't be a captain. A Captain has done DNS or BSc Nautical Science and you have done Marine Engineering, both are 180 degrees apart. If, by any chance someone is so determined to become one, then he/she might be the next Donald Trump, who has no idea whatsoever about his responsibilities.

Women Marine Corps Boot Camp Advice?

You will not be able to wash your hair or properly shower for a little while. You will be given 2-3 min. to shower, advise on that is forget the bar of soap use the hand soap in the head put it on a small spot and make sure you get your body wet. It may seem crazy but it works better. Remember your all a team, so if someone f***s up you will all pay. Never smile while your there. There was a female in our sister Platoon who smiled at a male DI when he said something funny, the male DI told his senior he already knew who was going to be a WM-Walking Mattress, don't be that Marine. Its tough but it can be done, i wasn't in the best shape i never shot a rifle before then but i made it, remember there is an end to it, when you get to your MOS school you will begin to feel less like a baby (but you will be a boot when you get to your duty station).

Were Marine captains aboard ships called "Major" so as to not have the same rank title as the ship's captain?

Sometimes I wonder about some of the questions I read on Quora. This is one of them. A rank is a rank and the wearer is addressed thusly. While a captain in the Marine Corps, I found myself several times aboard Navy bases. Never did the thought ever enter anyone’s head to call me major to avoid a chance of mix-up. Just didn’t happen. I must shamelessly admit though that when calling the motor pool for transportation on a Navy base, I did not clarify that it was Captain Meyers, USMC calling. The vehicle always arrived promptly! :)
