Professional help is a great idea. The things you are feeling are extremely common in people, but it can be extremely hard to fix any problems you might have on your own. A psychologist will be able to figure out exactly what is bothering you and help you improve your life. Is psychological counselling really helpful?

Self-help books are a wonderful resource to gain motivation during phases of life where we tend to feel low and lost. Yet, often in life we stumble and lose direction and may not always be able to identify the reason for our conflict, ways to resolve it or may just not be able to implement the changes required. While self-help books do give a general outlook for solutions for common life hassles and situations, yet these books are unable to consider the minor differences in the lives of each individual reading the book. As psychologists we acknowledge the fact that each person is unique in himself/herself hence all their conflicts are subjective to their experiences and personality and cannot be generalized.Often when we have a traumatic or disturbing experience it is essential to acknowledge and vent out our feelings in the process to overcome it. During these times, we might sometimes feel not understood by friends and family. A counselor is the person who in such situations can be helpful, as all counselors are qualified and trained in understanding human behavior and conflicts. A counselor is an empathetic listener who helps you not only vent out your feelings, but also identify the causes of concerns and facilitate the changes required to deal with situations of distress. Also, for individuals who may not be very keen readers or feel the need for some human attention or involvement can easily reach out to a counselor in times of distress.Understanding the need of counseling there are a few platforms which have been successful in making counselling convenient and accessible for all. Would that affect my credibility if I seek psychological counselling in India?

I feel that the worst kind of wounds one can have are psychological and emotional ones..There is nothing in this world you can't overcome if you are in perfect psychological and emotional health..If you feel like you are in need of psychological counseling it means you need it.. There is a part of you which feels it can help you in some way..We humans call out for help when we are in trouble one way or another… The fact that you wanted someone to answer this question is a proof you are in trouble and you believe this could help you..I feel you should take psychological counseling it can do wonders..As far as the original question goes weather it would affect your credibility in India..I have noticed a lot of people carry a stigma in their mind that a person who has ever taken a psychological counseling is not in their right mind and God knows what..It's their ignorance..A good part educated people too have this wrong notion fixed in their mind .. though it is completely untrue..You have to remember (though I love my nation and I am aware that our nation is not perfect) that this the same nation thay believed in Sati Pratha and followed it for a long time.. even though people thought it was the right thing doesn't mean it was right.. didn't make this Pratha a Morally Right thing..Looking away from the Grim picture I would like to show you another part of our nation. There are many people who won't judge you for it.. There are many people who have themselves suffered from depression at some point of their life..Why else do you think Psychologists exist… People need them thats why there are so many of them..Psychological counseling is what? A therapy you need to clear your mind. Solve the Psychological problem..If you have a tooth ache you will go to a Dentist. If you feel you can have a better life by this counseling then why not? After all what we need is a healthy life..If you call a man fool for judging you for going to a Dentist for tooth acheWhy does it matter if you want to see a psychologist and someone judges you?It none of anyone's business…

What does your counsellor do or say?

There are many theories in psychology, and there are therapists who align their treatment to each of the theories. It's interesting to me that we are never asked what kind of therapist we want (as if we'd know, anyway, right off the top of our heads), yet there is a big difference in how they conduct their sesssions, based on the theories.

Counseling is a very personal relationship, and you really should be asking these questions of your counselor for that reason. Five weeks isn't really very long of a time to accomplish much in therapy. You may not notice the benefit right away. It's a more gradual benefit, and it results a lot from what you learn by being in counseling. It's not a Q&A type of thing, tally your score: Bing! All better! It's a lot more subtle than that. Part of what you need to do to really benefit from your sessions is develop trust with your counselor and take the risk to talk her about the things that you find hard to talk to people about. That's really the POINT of the therapy: to get you over hurdles that cause you to suppress things that you hold in and that cause anxiety, depression, etc. That's the POINT. She's likely waiting for you to hit a subject that resonates with you emotionally. Then you have something to really work with. So keep talking.

You should ask ask your therapist the questions you have with the way the sessions are going. It doesn't matter what anyone else's sessions are like. Again, it's not a formula cure. She's not being paid to perform parlor tricks, like a medium. She's there to provide a safe and trusting environment for you to let down your guard and see what comes to the top of your mind to talk about. Your therapy will be successful when you begin to trust and really work with your counselor this way. Give it, and yourself, more time.

Who is a good psychologist for online counselling from India?

I was going through Quora and searched many online platforms. In the end I decided to go with Manastha because of their reputation. I have seen them everywhere. I understand that companies do advertising all the time and that is in no way indicative of how they actually are as a service, but I figured I had to make a decision anyway so I may as well go with the safe bet. Thankfully my decision was a good one. Manastha matched me with my therapist within 15 minutes. I received a notification and started chatting away. I was disappointed when I realized the chat was not in real time but I did receive a reply less than an hour later. My therapist told me that therapy through text was not in real time but that we could move over to video calls, which we did. Let me first say that the Manastha website is nothing short of amazing. My therapist has been a huge help in helping me manage my depression and especially my anxiety. I have had trouble balancing my work and life. I tended to go to the extreme and didn’t know when to stop. I still do from time to time but it has gotten so much better it is barely noticeable now. I strongly recommend Manastha.Manastha.com put me in contact with a therapist who has genuinely saved my life. The site is more affordable than going to a therapist once or twice a week in person, and they even offer financial aid to discount their already affordable prices. I have constant access to my therapist through messaging, plus a session once a week. There's multiple options for sessions; phone, text or webcam. My therapist is amazing and helped walk me through a very dark time. I honestly would not be here if not for better help and my therapist. I was at the end of my rope when I reached out, and she helped me through and made sure I was safe and had a safety plan in place. I am so grateful to this service and continue to use it.Read the blog here How Manastha helped me in battling my Depression and Anxiety through online Counseling by Parinita Sharma on Best Online Counseling and Mental Health SupportHope I helped.Regards
