What Does A Vvt Transmission Stand For

What does it mean when a transmission is shot?

My friend's dad couldn't drive us to the mall because he said his truck's transmission was shot, just what does that mean and is it fixable?? thanks.

Does 4 cylinder mean that the car has a manual transmission?

cylinder is related to engine size and configuration, in-line or V-type.
transmission, is what and how the engine power is transmitted to your wheels, manual or automatic.

you can have 4-cylinder with either manual or automatic transmission.
6 or 8 cylinder with manual or automatic transmission..

VVT vs CVT.... What are these types of transmissions(cars), and which is better?

The other gentleman is correct, VVT stands for variable valve timing, Which is controlled by the PCM (powertrain control module) by way of electronic solenoids that control oil pressure to the camshaft phasers which controls the valve timing. Now CVT stands for continuously variable transmission which is nothing more than two pulleys that each change their diameter and provide a changeable effective gear ratio without the use of gearsets.

Which transmission is better, an automatic or a CVT?

Clear answer: CVT. Would I get one any time soon? Hell no.CVT’s are incredibly practical. They have fewer moving parts than a conventional transmission, and can be electronically adjusted to make any gear ratio needed. Its pretty much a belt sliding up and down two cones:When you think of CVT, your mind probably goes here:But what if I told you, that a CVT is something every one of the following cars WISHES it had?Thats right. CVT’s were BANNED from formula one competitions. That should tell your something about the misconceptions about these things. The key feature is their ability to be electronically tuned. We find CVTs in a bunch of teensy Japanese econoboxes because they can so easily be tuned to maximize fuel economy. However, we can just as easily tune these things so that they maximize power. The ability to be at 100% power, all the time was just too much of an advantage and the technology was banned from formula one competitions before the Williams prototype made a single lap. Then comes the natural question, why does every gasguzzling horsepower-injected tire-burning hot rod not have a CVT? The only good reason is tradition. People like to take their barking V8 up to redline in second gear, to be able to tap the left shift paddle on a turn and barely hold on to the road. Anybody who’s driven a Honda civic knows that you get just about… none of that. But eventually, as these sports cars get choked by emission standards, they are going to have to bite the bullet and trade in the gears for the far better belts and cones. But for now, I’ll drive whatever kind of transmission comes in most fun cars.

Toyota super ect transmission?

The "ECT" function on Toyota's stands for Electronic Controlled Transmission. The main function of this feature is to change the "performance" of the vehicle. It does this by using a different set of "shift points". Meaning that when engaged this system causes the engine to stay in lower gears for longer to help accellerate faster or have increased torque. This does not give you any more HP it simply applies it in a sportier way. While this system does not cause damage to the engine, the engine was designed to work efficiently either with it engaged or not. The way we drive at times with sportier shifting can cause issues : )

5.7L HEMI MDS VCT Engine vs 5.7L HEMI(R) VVT Engine?

In simple terms, the only difference is that the MDS engine is set up that 4 cylinders cut off at highway cruising speeds which gives you better fuel economy. You really don't loose any power, when you need it, you give it gas and they kick back in to give you any power you need. This can only be done with the automatic transmission.

So the WT version does not do this and is the engine set up in the manual transmission cars. That is why you see "MDS" - 5 speed automatic / WT - 6 speed manual transmission. Both engines are still rated for the same horsepower.
