Do colleges look at high school attendance during applications?

Thanks for the A2A, Daniela!I’ve never seen a transcript that mentions attendance. It’s far more important that you do well in your classes and stay involved in your passions and your community than that you go to school every single day. However, repeated absences and truancy that results in lowered grades and/or disciplinary action will definitely be passed along on your transcript to the colleges you are applying to.In addition, most of the colleges request a general letter of recommendation from your counselor (even the ones who don’t request letters from teachers), and he or she will have access to your attendance records. If he or she sees something there that raises a red flag, they may decide to mention that in your recommendation. The bottom line is that its not necessary to kill yourself to get to class every single day, but you do need to attend class regularly unless you have a really good reason (like an illness). Not going to class will limit the colleges you can apply to, because it will knock down your GPA and may result in detention/suspension.

What does applied technology mean? (as related to education)?

Should I join the military to learn discipline?

Joining the military JUST to learn self-discipline may not the right path. However, not only can the military change your life, it’s guaranteed to, just not necessarily in the way you are asking. There is a misunderstanding about the military and self-discipline. The military will demand that you demonstrate discipline, and it will put you through disciplinary proceedings if you are unable or unwilling to do so, but it won’t give it to you. If you are envisioning something along the lines of a college course like “Self-Discipline 101 - Exploring Modes of Personal Restraint and Denial” or some such, it’s not going to happen that way.Self-discipline happens when a long-term goal you want to achieve is more important than immediate gratification. For instance - you have to have at least some measure of self-discipline or you wouldn’t be graduating with a bachelor’s degree - a four-year (or more) undertaking. Do you have a job or jobs? If yes, have you been fired for not showing up to work or not doing what the boss asked? No? You have some self -discipline. Do you maintain some kind of exercise routine? You have some discipline. You say you want to start a business, but don’t have the discipline. I say you you don’t have the right business idea. If you hit on one that really fires you up, to the point you’ll set immediate desires aside in order to make the business succeed, you’ll discipline yourself and make it happen.

What exactly is scholastic disciplinary action?

As long as you have never been publicly caned (yes they do that in schools in certain countries), suspended or expelled you should be fine. Scholastic misconduct probably refers to plagiarism, or maybe cheating on an important exam.

Does cheating in middle school affect me getting into colleges?

It may be recorded as a disciplinary action on your middle school record. But colleges don't look at middle school records. They only look at your high school records. So no, technically this will not affect your chance of going to college. However, cheating means you aren't learning and mastering the material for yourself, which will make it harder to do well in the more advanced classes you'll be taking in high school. And getting poor grades in high school will definitely affect your college chances. So quit cheating! You're only cheating yourself.

How bad does a detention look for colleges?

im a senior. its the middle of the 3rd quarter. almost done with high school. i have a 96.7 GPA and am ranked in the top 10% of my class. ive never missed a day of high school.... perfect attendance so far all 4 years. Im in APs and national honor society. never gotten detention or any disciplinary actions.

Last week i cut my math class (which i don't need to graduate) tuesday, wednesday, and thrusday. 3 days. i went to guidance where they signed you in so that you dont get a cut. My Math teacher today called me after class and said that she knows that i wasnt sick like i had told her and that i was in guidance. She says that shes going to call home, give me detentions, and give me a 0 on a test grade.... possibly failing me for the quarter.

i have already been accepted into 6 of my 7 colleges and have gotten a bunch of scholarships. i was wondering if anything will happen with those colleges if i do get a detention for the cuts?
