What Does Islam Quran Really Say About Music

Is Music Haram in Islam? Really?

Okay, I've been doing some research about it and i have come to the conclusion that:
It is Haram to listen to music with bad words and pointless meaning (lets go out and get drunk blablablab ***** snitch blabla) and those who try to mislead people away from Islam. It is forbidden to listen to it in Ramadan. And in general things that goes against the rules of Islam.
I've also read that Allah doesnt forbid it in the Quran.
But in some Hadith it is forbidden.
"And of mankind is he who purchases idle talks (i.e. music, singing, etc.) to mislead (men) from the Path of Allah without knowledge, and takes it (the Path of Allah, the Verses of the Qur'an) by way of mockery. For such there will be a humiliating torment (in the Hell-Fire)."

Allah forgive me if I'm wrong but i take that verse as that is directed towards those who try to mislead and sing about it (Which right now does not involve lets say love songs or other that doesnt you know, like preach against Islam).

And I've read that you can listen to that which doesnt go against Islam, but not too much

So, what is the answer really?

Yes?
No?
A little but not against the rules?

Saalam and thanks

What does the Quran say about music?

“Whoever says that all music is prohibited, let him also claim that the songs of the birds are prohibited”- Abu Hamed Al GazzaliQuran doesn’t say anything about prohibition of music; it rather says:“You shall not utter lies with your own tongues stating: "This is Halal (lawful), and this is Haram (unlawful)," to fabricate lies and attribute them to GOD. Surely, those who fabricate lies and attribute them to GOD will never succeed” (Al Quran #16:116)Music is not prohibited in Islam, but its worse uses - when it is obscene - when it glorifies creations more than the Creator - Who is only praiseworthy – Alhamdulillahi Rabbil Alamin, as is said in the Quran.Quranic verses itself are melodious; though written in prose but conforms rhythmic consonance , and thus makes it easy to remember and memorise the whole Quran, a special attribute of the Quran. Please read my answer in the link below too:Rezaul Haque's answer to Are the verses of the Qur’an melodically composed?

What does Islam say about movies and music?

A2A. Both are haraam. It is well established from the Quran and hadith that music is haraam. Same goes for the portrayal of animate images.Pictures of scenery, trees, waterfalls, clouds, stars, planets, etc, are all permissible. But images of people, animals, anything which has features of animated beings, etc, are all forbidden. Angels stay far away from such images and shayateen are attracted to them. When you play a movie in your home, angels will not enter it. Your home will be filled with shayateen.Music causes hypocrisy to grow in the heart just like water causes a plant to grow. Nabi sallAllahu alayhi wasallam hated music. On one occasion nabi sallAllahu alayhi wasallam was walking with a sahabi and there was music playing, he put his fingers in ears and only removed them after the sahabi confirmed that the music couldn't be heard anymore. There's honestly lots of proof from the Quran and hadith to support what I am saying, too much for me to delve into everything, but take my word for it…Movies and music are haraam. In fact, a person who indulges in these sins will almost certainly end up following dajjal. They run a high risk of dying without imaan. And I haven't even touched on the demonic aspect of all this. All these movies and music are inspired by shaytaan. It's filled with satanic messages, both on a subliminal and conscious level. Please, don't listen to what all the liberal fools tell you. I'm telling you, movies and music are haraam. There is a little grey area here, like when it comes to music without any instruments, but I doubt that's the kinda music you're referring to in your question, so for the sake of simplicity, let's not delve into that grey area right now.Actually, there's so much I can say on this topic, it's just too much to mention. Music and movies are so much more evil than people realise. Aside from being toxic to our imaan, they are contributing factors to many of the problems facing humanity today.I promise you…If we eliminate movies and music from our lives, we'll change the world. I'm not even exaggerating.I promise you bro, give up movies and music, stay clear of any animated images, and you'll see what a positive impact it will have on your imaan. People who indulge in these sins will never attain the level of ihsaan and run a risk of dying without imaan. That's the reality of the situation.

Does the Quran mention that music haram?

No, why is it haram?Nothing is Haram. It is the act associated with it which is haram. Alcohol on its own is not haram. When drunk, yes it is haram. The pig as a creature of Allah is not haram. eating it, is.So why is music haram?Music heighten the senses, sometimes rightly and wrongly. Music which encourages depression and perhaps violent actions is detrimental to the individual and society. So such music is haram. Others are just the opposite. The gun is not haram. It is the person using it for wrongly purposes who is guilty of something haram. So articles and things are not haram. It is the act and its uses.

Is music really prohibited in islam according to Quran and Hadith?

There is no explicit verse about music in the Holy Quran, even though, there are several interpretational traditions under some verses as well as many traditions. Let me mention one of the verses:وَ مِنَ النَّاسِ مَن يَشْترَى لَهْوَ الْحَدِيثِ لِيُضِلَّ عَن سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ بِغَيرْ عِلْمٍ وَ يَتَّخِذَهَا هُزُوًا أُوْلَئكَ لهَمْ عَذَابٌ مُّهِينٌ(لقمان:6)Among the people is he who buys diversionary talk that he may lead] people [astray from Allah's way without any knowledge, and he takes it in derision. For such there is a humiliating punishment. (31:6)“diversionary talk” is any entertaining and neglectful statement or music which direct the human to futility and error. It is narrated from Imam Sadiq (as): God doesn’t pay attention to those who are present in music gatherings [[some music can lead to bad feelings and evil actions]]; after that he (as) recited this part of verse: Among the people is he who buys diversionary talk that he may lead [[people]] astray from Allah's way (31:6) [wasail al shia,Vol6,p227]It’s suitable to say that some music is good; it can affect positive influence upon those who listen to it. There are other kinds of music, which is bad; it can lead to harmful feelings and evil actions. So not all music is haram but rather, some music is forbidden.

I really don't understand why music is haram..?

I'm not trying to bash Islam here in any way, but I do feel that music itself is sort of neutral. Some music does make you want to dance, but what's wrong with that. AS LONG AS you aren't dancing with the opposite gender, I think it's fine to just put on some music with your friends and just act stupid.

But okay, if you still don't agree with me, than what about calming, soothing music, such as instrumental or beetoven's to relax you? Some people say TV is haram..but isn't it rather the content that applies? If you are watching porn than obviously it's haram but what if you are educating yourself with documentaries? How can that be haram..

Now, with music. What if you just listen to classical music..? Is that really going to tempt you into going into a club (asthagfirullah)? As a muslim, I know my limits. Just because I listen to Michael Jackson or maybe some desi songs (which by the way I rarely fully understand), I don't really think I am going to do something stupid or bad.... It may lead me to it, but what if I know I won't...

Also, if the concept of music was so important to Allah, don't you think he would've clearly outlawed it in the Quran?

So basically what I'm saying is, I don't believe that listening to music can have such a huge impact (at least not for me) to lure me into some type of haram place.. I simply listen to music for enjoyment... no derogatory music with bad lyrics..just like Michael J or Alicia Keys..

YOUR VIEW?

Please don't bash me here.. I am simply stating my opinion and asking you for yours...I know some muslims believe it is haram, and I respect your view.

Thanks :)
