What Does It Mean If Taking L-phenylalanine Makes You Cry

What is the meaning of the phrase "New York City: If You Can Make it Here, You Can Make it Anywhere" . Kindly see details .

New York City thinks of itself as the center of the world, as Rome in the Roman empire, as the most important city among the constellation of important cities — London, Moscow, Paris, Beijing and Tokyo may be the capitals of their respective countries, but New York is the capital of the world. It sees itself, with some reason, as the center of business, the center of finance, the center of retail, the center of news, and the rival of Los Angeles as the center of entertainment. It also sees itself as a tough place, where you are competing against the best of the best, against the top tier in any field, since anyone with ambition and drive is either from New York or goes there to find out how far they can go. New York’s self-image is the opposite of carefree and easy. That’s what it means: it represents New York’s view of itself as the toughest and most important field of play there is.I think this view is both direct and ironic: on one level, New York really does see itself that way. If you grow up in or near New York, you grow up with an implicit feeling that real life happens in New York, that the things that matter happen in New York; that New York is tough, but worth it if you have what it takes to handle it. On another level, New Yorkers are deeply cynical, and recognize the absurdity of that idea, and hold the notion of New York expressed in that line as a bit of a joke. The line is from a song, made famous by Frank Sinatra (New York, New York Lyrics), which is a love song to the city, told from the point-of-view of a someone coming from some less important place to New York. It dates from 1977, but in my view reflects the view of an era twenty or forty years before when New York was more dominant in the country and the culture than it is today, but even when written, was just a song lyric, written as the theme song of a movie about New York. The authors were Broadway veterans, and the song seems to me to echo earlier stores about young people coming to New York to be Broadway stars. (That the song is associated with Sinatra, a pop figure from that earlier era, seems appropriate.) In 1977, New York was at a low ebb, and the song was partly popular because it was a bold assertion of something that many people doubted at the time, when a headline about the federal government declining to help the city avoid bankruptcy said that the President (Gerry Ford) told New York to drop dead.

My 17 year old has been taking 50mg of zoloft for several years does it loose it's effectiveness?

One thing i have found from my own experience, and through talking to people is that late teens/early adult hood is a hard time to treat mental illness. The brain is going through many transitions at that time to fully move from child brain function to adult brain fuction. That is part of the reason so many psych meds are labeled that the risk for causeing suicidal ideation in children/young adults is far greater.... it is because of how the brain is changing. But what i have found is the brain can change so much that a med that worked great, even 6 months later may not work at all. Once get to mid/late 20s it is far easier for a single med to help for a longer period of time.....though still may not be the case for some people.

OK, for everyone being critical of having a 17 year old on medication: Anti depressants are NOT a magic happy pill. The do not make someone falsely happy or numb or high or drug someone up unless they are not working correctly. It is one thing when parents go and try to push kids on pills as an instant fix without trying other means, but sometimes, medication IS needed. I know i have bipolar which made my teen years absolute hell. I started having suicidal ideation when i was 12.....started making plans to kill myself by 14. It wasn't because i was sad, didn't cope well, or just "typical teen stuff".....my brain just did not function right. I didn't know what it felt like to not have my mind either racing to where i couldnt think straight or being so depressed i wanted to die until i was diagnosed and put on meds after I tried to kill myself. And it was not just a "cry for attention"....i flat out wanted to be dead. Does a child have to try to kill themselfs before a parent can say "maybe medicine is worth a try?". Yes these meds should be used very carefully in teens and young adults because there is higher risk of increased suicidal thoughts and attempts, or violent behavior.....and should be changed immedieatly if that pops up....but doesn't mean that is always the case, or will happen at all

What are the causes for a fast heartbeat and sweating while sleeping?

These symptoms are typical of hyperthyroidism. Other symptoms may be fatigue, thinning hair, chest pain, and if untreated, bulging eyes. See your doctor and he will prescribe lab tests which will show if this is the case. It is treatable with a drug named methimazole, but in severe cases, radioactive iodine is used to destroy the thyroid gland (thyroid ablation). The severe form is Grave’s Disease. If the thyroid is destroyed, you would have to take supplemental thyroid pills for the rest of your life. This is much better, however, than living with the hyperthyroidism.

Ok recently put on lexapro first day sleep talking knew i was woke self up only remember 1 thing said the rest?

Usually side-effects are normal and only last a week or two. If they are really bothering you call the doctor and he will decide if it is better to stop them completely and try something else or to lower the dose for a little while to lessen the side-effects. Get the doctors advice though, don't do it on your own. Stomach aches and visual problems are common with Lexapro and should go away after a week or so, so you need to talk to the doctor and see what is best.

Tell me about sterotonin and the brain (depression pills) and answer this please?

Antidepressants work by increasing the availability of serotonin in the brain. Certain foods can increase serotonin production, but that is not the only way.Things like listening to music, exercising, yoga and some strong emotions can boost serotonin production also. Some people's brains don't seem to absorb the serotonin well and antidepressants can help with this.
