What Does It Mean When A Senator

What does it mean when a Senator gets censured?

In some political systems, a censure is something that can be placed on a politician or a person; a kind of public condemnation. Censuring is about as close to doing nothing as you can possibly get without actually doing literally nothing.

So far as I know, there is no government which has an official procedure for something like 'condemnation'. So it usually just refers to something much more casual. Just saying you don't like something. In bodies without an official censure procedure, they may use the terms interchangeably.

McCarthy was a kind of sheep-in-wolf's-clothing, to modify a phrase. The things he accomplished were only done because everyone thought he could and that he had the full force of the senate and the government behind him. A censure demonstrated that this was not the case at all, though I would say that its timing was just the final seal on a growing realization... it was the Watkins committee itself that was the first sign that the winds were changing.

What is a junior senator? What does "junior senator" mean? Who are some?

Power in most organizations is delegated by rules, that are usually fairly well understood, and also by other factors, such as tradition. In the Senate, each Senator formally has more or less the same power as any other Senator has, barring certain leadership positions, at least as far as the written rules go. Importantly, tradition also has a substantial influence on the actual power that each Senator actually has.One set of traditions has to do with U.S. Senate: Seniority. Some parts of this can make or break a Senator’s reelection prospects. Not all committee assignments are equally important to each state, but how they’re assigned is affected by Seniority. For example, a Senator from a predominantly agricultural state might want to be on the the United States Senate Committee On Agriculture, Nutrition & Forestry, and Seniority would help said Senator get that. Office space is another part that is distributed by Seniority, wherein for most office space, the most senior Senator who wants said office space gets it.Some of those traditions affect the power distribution between the two Senators from a given state. For convenience, the most senior Senator is typically called the Senior Senator, while the less senior Senator is called the Junior Senator. Usually, a state’s senate delegation will work together on matters, but tradition dictates that certain things come down on the side of the Senior Senator. This can be in more trivial things like who gets which desk, and it can be in fairly important things like questions regarding federal patronage, at least when both Senators are of the same party. Some notable currently junior Senators include Rand Paul of Kentucky, Rob Portman of Ohio, Marco Rubio of Florida, Tammy Duckworth of Illinois, Ted Cruz of Texas, Cory Booker of New Jersey, and Tim Kaine of Virginia. Some further reading if interested:A short MSNBC article on the subject: The junior senior senatorsA list of current Senators by seniority: Senate Seniority

What does it mean when a senator "blocks" a bill?

It means that the Senator objected to unanimous consent to take further action on the bill.Quite a bit of legislative action is undertaken via unanimous consent - it’s quicker, and allows Members to circumvent the rather cumbersome “regular order” - but it requires everyone to agree. And an easy way to stop a bill that you oppose is to object to UC when it’s requested.See also https://www.quora.com/What-are-t...

What does it mean when Socialist Senator Bernie Sanders supports GOP Ron Paul's audit of the Federal Reserve?

Senor Magoo do you ever get tired of being wrong?

Plain and simple, a quasi-public and quasi-private organization in control of our money and are more secretive than the CIA cannot be seen as beneficial by either side of the isle. The only politicians who do not support transparency of this organization are those who have something to gain from closely held secrets. The spotlight will be on those individuals as their true colors will come to light when this comes to a vote. If this fails we really need to ask ourselves what is so important to hide from those of us who create the wealth that they print.

What does this mean in a Latin to English translation? "Senator nuntiavit viros Romae ducere lecturos esse"?

Google Translate doesn't account for tenses and the multiple meanings that Latin words are accompanied with so ya, I could have "Just used Google", but it isn't that simple. I'm in Latin II and this is my first time ever asking a question about my work. Thanks for the generosity of those that actually know what they are talking about to share, instea of using Google Translate.

What does it mean that even Republican senators are angry over President Trump's strong defense of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un's role in the death of American college student Otto Warmbier?

It means that his credibility is affected by his constantly questioning the statements of the FBI, CIA, DOD, DOJ, and other US government agencies while taking the word of genocidal foreign tyrants at face value. Moreover, it’s pretty clear that this is a man who doesn’t really take anyone’s word at face value, so when he claims to do so, especially for some of the least credible people in the world, it makes you wonder. Mostly, you wonder why he would claim to believe their statements. Mind you, I don’t know if Kim knew about Warmbier’s treatment and I really don’t care. We can’t all be involved in every issue. But to uncritically accept his claims on the subject is neither reasonable nor plausible for Trump to do, and I think it is more likely that he either: 1) doesn’t know and doesn’t care, or 2) knows it’s not true, and still doesn’t care, because he thinks taking Kim’s side will benefit him eventually. I know getting a nuke deal with NK would be a big boost with his base, which is always important. But who knows?

What is the difference between a senator, a congressman, and a representative?

Representatives and Senators are both congresspeople. The US congress consists of two effectively co-equal chambers: the Senate and the House of Representatives. There are a few functional differences: Senators serve for six year terms, representatives have to run for election every two years. There are two senators from each state, but representatives are based on population (California has 53 representatives, Wyoming has one). But both chambers have to pass a bill in order for it to become a law, which is the primary function of congress.Traditionally, the Senate is thought of as the loftier, more deliberative, more elite body. Once upon a time, Senators were appointed by the state legislature, to keep some separation from the popular vote. Nowadays, though, Senators are directly elected. The main difference is that representatives have specific districts that elect them, while Senators are elected by the state as a whole.Because being a Senator is somewhat more prestigious, Senators are usually referred to as such, though they're technically congresspeople. Representatives are usually referred to as "congressman" or "congresswoman". But the only distinction is which part of congress they're in.

How does Senator Norris Suggest America Could Have Stayed Out Of World War One?

He means that we shouldn't be Europe's baby sitters, settling their wars, also Germany never declared war upon us, we could've stayed neutral, we kept sending supplies to the brits and french, if we hadn't germany wouldn't have sunk our boats.

Realistically German could have won if Russian revolution succeeded and we never joined in, then we'd have to liberate france and brits later, wouldn't we?
Germany wasn't that shitty in WW1, they were ok guys in WW1, they just got pulled into the war by Austria-Hungary
