What Does Mm Mean They Are Units In Chemistry.

What does the unit mM mean?

it's millimoles per litre.

1M= 1000mM

What does mM stand for in chemistry?

millimolar

so: 1 M = 1000 mM

What does (mM) mean, they are units in chemistry.?

use the mass conservation principle

What does mM stand for in chemistry (measurement)?

I'm reading this scientific journal article and I'm not sure what they are referring to when saying "5 mM of sodium nitrate" and I need to know for homework. They are using to to measure sodium nitrate concentration. Thanks!

What does mM stand for in chem?

millimolar

when describing the concentration of a solution

Chemistry-What does upside down 'h' then regular 'g' mean?

It would be an upside down and back to front h, here it is ' µ '....it is a prefix meaning micro - 1 millionth part of the unit in question, micrograms in this case. It can be used for length also e.g. 1 µm is one millionth of a metre (0.001`mm). Your example would appear as 4.29 µg, 4.29 millionths of a gram - 0.00000429 g.

blue gal - it is one millionth of a gram, not 1 million grams !

Chemistry help? :( coverting to pressures into units of mm Hg?

0.9975 atm = 758.1 mm Hg

225 400 pascals = 1 690.63903 mm Hg

99.7 kilopascals = 747.811498 mm Hg

1.07800 atm = 819.28 mm Hg

It's just unit conversions, just like doing math. Treat units exactly like numbers in math and remember what each unit is equal to.

1 kPa = 1000 Pa (notice the k in front of Pa, k = kilo = 1000)
1 atm = 101.325 kPa
1 atm = 760 mm Hg

for you, it is easier to change everything into atm and then change into mm Hg

What are the units mM?

"m" is "milli"... 1/1000th
"M" is Molar...a unit of concentration.
mM is "millimolar"

"molar" is the units of "molarity"..
molarity = moles solute / Liter of solution.

so...
2M means 2 molar which means the molarity = 2 which means 2 moles solute / Liter solution
2 mM means 0.002 moles solute / Liter of solution.

as to the other answers.. Paul is basically correct. Norrie isn't.

this...
"mM means 'millimole' of solution."
is incorrect.

mM is NOT "millimoles"
mM IS "millimolar"

That is a very important distinction. Moles is NOT molarity. They are two different things. Moles is an amount. Molarity is a concentration. Moles vs molar is analagous to mass vs density. And the abbreviation for "millimoles" is either mMol or mMole... depending on have lazy you are.

this..
"1.0M means 1.0 mole of solute in 1.0 Litre of solvent"
is also flat out wrong.

1.0M does NOT mean 1 mole solute / liter of solvent.
1.0M DOES mean 1 mole solute / 1 L SOLUTION.

again. a very critical distinction and it's important that you get that straight. volume solution ≠ volume solvent.

What does mmHg mean in vacuum pressure?

Millimeters of mercury (chemical symbol Hg) is a measure of pressure. It is the pressure corresponding to a depth of liquid mercury. 1 atmosphere is 760 mm Hg. If used with a barometer, it refers to absolute pressure at sea level. If used with a vacuum gage, it usually means how far the vacuum is below the surrounding air outside the vacuum chamber. Then it is gage pressure.
