What Does National Sentiment Of Jose Rizal Mean

Is Dr. Jose Rizal deserving to be called our National Hero? Why or Why not?

I don't think he deserves to be called as our national hero coz he never aimed liberation for Philippines as an independent nation. What he aimed for was for Philippines to be treated as a fair colony of Spain like most Latin American countries. By writing his two famous novels, he aimed to let Spain know the maltreatment and injustices in Philippines---and this is a fact. Otherwise, if he trully intended to write these novels for the Filipino masses, he should have written these in Filipino/Tagalog and not in Spanish. By that time, Filipinos have almost no means of letting the Spanish Empire know what is trully happening in the Philippines. So the idea was to let the Spanish-speaking elite Filipino community and concerned Spaniards read his novels and make action for these opressions. Too bad the Katipuneros mistakably interpreted this as Rizal's means of lighting up Filipinos' nationalism; and he was also against the rebellion. And another fact, Rizal was even doubtful of his fellowmen's capability of living as an independent nation by that time. And I couldn't agree more from what is happening to our country now.

What good could a national hero be if he himself has no trust in his fellowmen? He has a very serious case of colonial mentality in believing that only Mother Spain could give Philippines liberation from oppression by taking Philippines on her cradle and, perhaps, letting the country go when he can stand on his own feet.

Sure he is a great man and all. A man that every Filipino can be proud of, but doesn't deserve to be called as our NATIONAL HERO for his willingness to submit his own country's fate in the hands of others.

What does GAT mean in filipino? Ex.: Gat Jose Rizal?

GAT - is a title given to person who is regarded as a national hero, or to a person who has done greatness during his/her lifetime, especially during the Spanish and American occupations of the Philippines.

GAT during early times is also given to people with nobility, but not necessarily a Datu or a Rajah whowere considered leaders of a certain group or area.

Lately, this has not yet been applied to any person for a long time. Probably because we have not had a person worthy to be called a GAT or a hero.

While NInoy Aquino is considered as a national hero (I do not know where this was officially conferred to him), he has not yet been accorded the title of 'GAT".

How do you see Jose Rizal?

A hero!He freed the Filipinos from colonization not only once but twice.Unlike most Philippine heroes, he is not a soldier/warrior, he used his wit and brain to echo the sentiments of Filipinos in his novel Noli me tangere and El Filibusterismo, which eventually led to his execution which started the revolution against Spain. Spain was already losing when they sold their territories to USA.During American colonization, Americans were unsure if Filipinos can govern the country on our own. U.S. Representative Henry A. Cooper, lobbying for management of Philippine affairs, recited the Mi Ultimo Adios before the United States Congress. Realising the nobility of the piece's author, his fellow congressmen enacted the Philippine Bill of 1902 enabling self-government (later known as the Philippine Organic Act of 1902).Even after Rizals death he continued to inspire other people from other nations. Mi ultimo adios, was translated into Bahasa Indonesia by Rosihan Anwar and was recited by Indonesian soldiers before going into battle during their struggle for independence.Mi último adiós was broadcasted over radio in Jakarta on Saturday, 30 December 1944–Rizal’s 48th death anniversary. That same day, the paper Asia Raja devoted almost half of its back page to a feature and poem on Rizal written by Anwar, accompanied by Anwar’s translation.Malaysian opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim, has recognized Rizal as the “greatest Malayan,” calling Rizal an “Asian Renaissance Man.”He is a genius! Rizal was a polymath, skilled in both science and the arts. He painted, sketched, and made sculptures and woodcarving. He was a prolific poet, essayist, and novelist. He was also a polyglot, conversant in twenty-two languages. There are many things about Jose Rizal more than worthy of being a Philippine National Hero.Sources:José Rizal - WikipediaMi último adiós - Wikipediahttp://globalnation.inquirer.net...

What can you say about the indolence of the filipino? (by: jose rizal wrote)?

The Filipinos aren't indolent. But if they were physically indolent, they were actually very cultural (but not religious) in their own private and secluded way of only recognizing local customs.

Now Jose Rizal is known for criticizing the Catholic Church. Whether he was criticizing Moslem or Orthodox Church will never be known. The indolence of the Filipinos must have something to do with Jose Rizal as a fencer. Jose Rizal knew fencing and perhaps he knew how to defeat his opponents within the set of rules, and be on par. When a Filipino is indolent according to Jose Rizal, the Filipino refuses to stand up because this Filipino has accepted that he is not in par regardless of the rules.

Although Jose Rizal would have described the Filipino nature more elaborately and intricately, with full documentation that he didn't actually underscore Filipinos being indolent.

Now a character such as Manny Pacquiao hardly passes for being an indolent Filipino in boxing.

Is Ninoy Aquino one of our national heroes? do you think he should be?

i think he's more of a symbol, a catalyst, a defining moment (or person) that inspired the nation into action. i guess he's much like jose rizal - an inspiration but not necessarily an actual leader (as was andres bonifacio). official hero or not, he played an important part in our country's history.
