Anyway, the message that needed to be sent to the audience was that humans are stupid fuckups and the Gods know best.So, in this insolvable, hopeless situation caused by a stupid fuckup, suddenly a God(ess) would come down on stage and solve everything! The End!Since this was theatre and not modern film, the only way for an actor to “come down” was by using a complicated crane mechanisn.So, literally, the God (the deus) would come from a machina (ex machina).Since then, the term has become popularised as a quick catchphrase for sudden resolutions. It has also become overused and misused.The way CinemaSins uses the term is the most free and loose I've seen so far. For them, every surprise, every twist and every sudden help is a Deus ex Machina.
