What Dog Can Be Left Alone At Home For At Least 6 Hours

Dogs (pets): Can a dog stay home alone for 12 hours?

Realistically, 6 hours and more is not reasonable for a young dog.I personally do not feel that an adult dog should be alone or even alone with another dog more than an 8 hour work day. Dogs are pack animals and definitely need interaction. I would say 8 hours is pushing it. Remember that you sleep for a further 8 hours, making it more than 65% of the time that your dog is alone. Then you start to include date nights, going out with your friends, shopping late after work, overtime... you start to see that your dog spends like 80%+ of its time completely alone or with another dog and not able to go out and do anything. The yard or house is interesting to a dog for about 2 minutes, then its not new. This is really miserable for the poor guys.My personal opinion is that unless you have multiple people in the house on different shifts/always home or work part time, unfortunately a dog is just not for you.Other animals do much better with solitude. Cats, obviously. I know some people have pre-conceived notions of cats but they can be great companion animals.

Dogs that can be left alone for about 6 hours?

Me and my family went to the North Shore Animal League today. we picked a puppy that was just adorable, we played with him, we filled out ALL the forms, just for them to tell us we cant adopt him b/c he is going to be in the house alone for too long.
Is there any dogs that can be home alone for a long time? i know its a puppy, but we want one fairly young, and we are having a hard time finding one over the internet...and if we go somewhere and still dont get a dog, its that much more time and money wasted. so please help.

How many hours can we let the dog stay alone in our home? My mom and I live together and we both leave our home for at least 7 hours. How long can we leave the boxer puppy, which is one month old?

A one month old puppy shouldn’t really be left alone. If your were going out to run an errand and it wouldn’t take you that long maybe thirty minutes I would say it might be okay. However, a puppy is just like a baby in that it will need constant care for the first two years. Of course after the two years it will still need care but the first two years are more hectic. Just like a baby it won’t be able to control its bladder it will pee and poop everywhere and often. It will need to be fed small meals throughout the day and it will need comfort because it will be scared. As it gets a little older and more mobile it will explore its surrounding. It will teeth so will chew on things and eats things. You need to baby proof .I mean puppy proof your house. Watch out for cords. Keep small items away. Just keep the space clean and free of clutter. You should find someone you trust and ask if they can come and sit with your puppy. Or use a service like Dogvacay, Rover, there are day boarding places. Check if your vet offers this service. My vet had day boarding for $7.00 a day and overnight boarding for $12.00. When I had to work long hours I put her in day boarding at 8am before my job started at 9 and would pick her up at 3pm. Because I had two shifts I would take her home, walk her, and feed her and she would stay with my mom while I went to work from 5pm to 8 pm. as soon as I would get back I would walk her again, everyone would eat and I would take her on a short walk just before bed to hold her through the night. At this time my dog was four and I put her in day boarding because she needed to be walked from 8–3 .Puppies require a lot more care, but even adult dogs need to go every 3–4 hours to the bathroom.

Can I leave my dog alone for 6 hours a day?

I'm thinking of getting a dog. I go to school for 6 hours a day and my mum works. The dog would have to be left alone for some period of time however I was wondering if 6 hours was too long? The dog wouldn't be left alone all week. Never at weekends, and twice during the school week it would have company during the entire day. Also the dog would be walked in the morning and also taken for a longer walk straight after school. In fact the times when it would be left alone for the full 6 hours would probably be once a week as my brother goes to six form and is home during parts of the day. I have been researching this because previously I thought that this would not be at all fair on the dog, but it seems lots of owners do something similar leaving their dogs in a large crate. (with doggy beds etc.) I just wanted to know what some of you thought about it. Also the dog would NOT be a puppy and probably about 3 years old. Thank-you!

Is it okay to leave a Labrador Retriever at home alone for 8 hours a day, 5 days a week?

Not if he is too young below 6 months of age I suppose. A very important note:- before leaving your dog alone for 8 hours a good morning exercise is extremely extremely important for at least 30–40 minutes . For example Everyday I get up early and go straight to dog park with my dog. There I meet other dog owners and my dog plays with their dogs and releases his energy. Then he sleeps almost entire day in the house.Yes you can leave your dog. That’s totally normal. Take few points into consideration before leaving your dog alone in the house. Basically puppy proof your house. These things I did in my starting months when I left him(pup) alone. He is 1 year and 6 months now , very calm and no problem dog. But he was super energetic puppy once who chewed few things .No dangerous object should be kept around or at a reachable distance. Like chocolates, sharp objects, garlic/onions etc.Keep his food or treats out of his reach. Your bread , cookies and anything eatable also. He can eat them all which can cause food bloat in his stomach. It’s nice to inform the neighbors casually that you leave your dog at home for any sort of emergency situations. It’s nice to have a portable dog toilet like “pet loo” in his younger age. Puppies pee a lot and my golden retriever pup used his pet loo till he turned 11 months. Just before his first birthday he stopped peeing on his toilet. PET LOO-my saviorDo not leave anything expensive outside like shoes , sunglasses or anything chewable for him that you’ll regret afterwards. I have lost my sunglasses and a pair of beautiful boots. Now he never chews but teething time was terrible for my shoes.Start leaving him for 1 hour then 2–3 hours for first few days. You can go shopping or for any kind of work. Then increase the time. I did the same. It worked .If you can afford a dog walker then it will be the best thing . He/she will come and walk your dog for 30 minutes in the evening/afternoon time. Have fun with you furbaby and All the best !!!

Can I leave a Golden Retriever at home alone for six hours?

It totally depends on age; Experts believe that adult dogs above 2 years of age can stay alone. Since, you have not stated age it’s difficult to guide.Leaving him alone should be a gradual and smooth process. For few days leave for your office at same time, pick keys from same place. First stand outside your door for 2 minutes and come back, then increase the time by an hour, and so on.You dog should not get this feeling that he is abandoned. Following are the other things you can doSwitch on television or animal channels.Play musical tracks for relaxing him, I generally play 30 minutes before leavingGive food in kong, so that he stays busy and activeTaking him for long morning walks, exercise, playing and increase socialization with humans and dogs. Make him feel loved and he will be fine.

What dog breeds can be left alone for 6-7 hours 5 days a week?

Do a search on the dogs prone to anxiety and these are the breeds to be avoided. Huskies and Great Pyrenees come to mind. Most breeds, when raised and conditioned for it, get along just fine. Also look for a breed that matches your own activity levels. In the real world, away from idealistic internet personalities, most people have their dogs alone for eight hour work days and the dogs live happy and healthy lives. We are talking millions of dogs here. If only we all had the luxury of being retired or wealthy enough not to work.Get a puppy when you have the most time for it, and when people are around to help you out. Puppies cannot hold their bladders the way adult dogs can and need to be taken out frequently. Leaving a young puppy alone for this long is not an option. If this is not an option, then it’s time to consider adopting a grown dog.Leaving a dog at home during the day simply requires a bit of management. Don’t exercise the dog in the morning, that way they don’t build up a thirst. Don’t feed too much either for the same reason, and so their bowels don’t get loaded up. I fill a Kong toy with a mix of wet food, fresh food, and some water and freeze it overnight. This occupies her for a while after I leave and gives a little something in her belly without filling her up.You must be a homebody to own a dog as a working person. You lose the option of going to the gym after work, or going straight out to dinner. Think carefully on your lifestyle before jumping into this. If my life wasn’t full of friends and family that welcome her, I may not be able to have my dog, because I can’t just cut out my entire social life. Thankfully she is welcome wherever I go.When you get home, make it all about the dog. Nothing happens until she has been taken out for her walk. Unless the weather is not up for it, I take her down to the park where I can do some outdoor training, play ball, and let her run off her energy. When we get home it’s dinner time for both of us, then some interactive play time, and when I am ready to relax for the final part of the evening she gets a nice raw bone to gnaw on and we can both relax comfortably. So don’t read into it too much when people tell you what an awful person you are for thinking such a thing - in the real world keeping the dog at home during the day is the norm. Just use a bit of foresight to manage it appropriately.Good luck.

Can a 3-month-old puppy be left alone for 6 hours a day?

I know I'm going to be flamed for this question, but I'm willing to take the risk. I know I could adopt an adult dog, but that is too much of a risk with my cats, and it went wrong last time. Even if the old owners say it is cat-friendly. I really miss having a dog and would like another one. The puppy would be locked away from the cats, and it would have lots of paper and stuff to pee on. It will not have food or water because it will be fed and given water before I leave, and if I leave it with food and water, it'll pee and poop all over the place. It will be left with its crate, as well as toys and towels or something to sleep on. It is POSSIBLE that my mom could come home from lunch, but I cannot guarantee that, so I need to know if it is possible to leave the puppy alone. I go to school and can't come take care of it during the day either, but I would come home immediately after school, the puppy would be alone for 6 1/2 hours tops. Help? Please and thank you ^^

Can Labradors be Left Alone During Work Hours?

The longest amount of time the labrador would be home alone is 8 hours... But it wouldn't be able to go outside and go potty. We WOULD but artificial grass squares to clear up the bathroom problem. I am to far away from work (15 minutes) and my lunch is only 25 minutes so that wouldn't work.

We do have neighbors home, during the day but we are not really close with them... Nor do we know them very well either.

NOTE: It would NOT be a puppy. It would be a 2-2.5 year old DOG

Would the Labrador get lonely?

While home alone all day... It would

1) Have the cat with it all day

2) I could possibly turn on some slow, calm music all day

Would this work???

Please, no rude answers. Every ones dream is to stay home all day, and have their dogs with them... But it's reality, dogs are left alone for maybe even 9+ hours, aren't they? (most of them are probably alone 8-6 hours... unless you're home all day)
