Archaeopteryx? What do you think of this article?

How ironic that the Intelligent Design theory is evolving in order to fit its ever-changing niche in order to survive.

Why did everyone think that Hillary Clinton would win the elections when she didn't?

Many of the major media outlets read the national polls and saw the lead she had built then assumed that meant a win.In fact, the polls were pretty accurate. What the major media outlets didn’t do, though, was look at state by state polling to estimate the electoral college.Only a few did that. And those who did started expressing concerns early in October that there were possible weaknesses for Hillary in the states she lost. (For example, Nate Silver noted weaknesses for Hillary quite early.)Why did the major outlet do this? Hard to know for certain. However, there’s a good book written about the Clinton ’92 campaign that noted how Clinton would give a speech and the first outlet would file a story that said “Clinton says X”. All the other media outlets would then say “Clinton says X” even though there were plenty of other stories they could have written. There’s a type of herd reality that can affect reporters - especially on a campaign. Some reporters are quite good at breaking past it. But on average the herd mentality seems to dominate mostly (not always). This year I think it was compounded because with Nate Silver’s 538 rising to prominence, a lot of the outlets have started trying to do the same thing - hire someone to look at the polls and come to conclusions for the outlet.EXCEPT, from what I observed, none of them execute with discipline like the 538 team. So there were a lot of “leaps of faith” that then led to “Hillary is going to win” headlines. All that being true, up until the Comey announcement those media outlets would have been accurate. But the Comey announcement did happen and it did throw the election to Trump. These outlets didn’t catch that truth and that risk.As a side note: Nate Silver now “blames” (as much as one can given a “what might have been situation”) the Comey announcement for causing the final shift the polls detected (which were reflected in ballots) that let Trump win. And he observes that the newspapers don’t want to say this is true because it challenges their own approach to reporting on Comey - because it was their reports that drove the change and put Trump in office.

Pro-choice people: What do you think about this article on abortion?

Elke Weiss' answer to What is the worst thing a significant other had said to you other than they are breaking up with you?I was a teenager at the time. No, he didn’t rape me but I have no doubt he might have had the relationship continued.Abortion can’t really turn back the clock. It can’t push the rewind button on life and make it so that she was never pregnant. It can make it easy for everyone around the woman to forget the pregnancy, but the woman herself may struggle. When Abortion Suddenly Stopped Making SenseAbortion can’t turn back the clock. I’d have still been raped and emotionally abused. I’d still have to struggle. But I wouldn’t be a child and a mother to a baby I didn’t ask for, and was too young to have, and would have forever bound me to a person who took his joys shredding my self esteem. Every choice I made with this pregnancy or with the baby would be his means of extending control. Can anyone imagine negotiating a babysitting schedule with your abusive ex?And honestly, I was in the best place possible. I had a loving family who would have loved me no matter what and would have whisked me away to Israel to have the baby in private. The monster and I are both White-passing with good health and high IQs. I would have had couples going bonkers trying to adopt my baby, or been able to adopt it to a cousin of mine who faced infertility.I was so innocent that I thought French kissing might have made me pregnant. The stress of research made me decide a few months later to commit suicide. (Elke Weiss's answer to What's your favorite song and give a deep reason why?)Happily, I wasn’t pregnant. But if I had been, it’s my body, and my mental health. My choice.

What do you think of this article supporting Religion?

LMAO that is pure happy, warm and fuzzy bull shit.I don't know where they got their impression of religion and how its divisive nature was so down played in their sheltered and overly optimistic world but they need to turn on some news or open a book and get a reality check. In the old days, there was a real sense of community where your neighbors all knew each other very well, in the real world.  People were very social and helped each other within their specific community.  Which could be quite large.  People outside of their community or socioeconomic group on the other hand were looked at with suspician much as they are today.  The difference is that much modern tribalism happens across neighborhood borders where physical proximity is less important due to online grouping but community adhesion and suspicion of strangers is no less prevalent. Religion is still a serious cause of social unrest, violence and lack of empathy toward others, war... though it can be argued that in todays world a lot of the wars that espouse religion as a root cause are really about other things and use religion to control people and manipulate them, but then again, it has ALWAYS been such.  The holy wars of the past were really political or about wealth and the religious skin put over them was used to generate support and control people.
