What Exams Do I Have To Take In The Ninth Grade Nyc Public Schools

Homeschooler transferring to public school?

That is ridiculous. You will have to no longer have got to do whatever except a standardized scan measuring typical advantage. You are being persecuted. The legislation depend on your state. Even so, I are expecting that they do not even HAVE legislation approximately this to your state. They are most commonly making this up for you. You have got to do that: Take the identify of your state and seem up legislation related to top university matriculation and homeschooling. I am making a bet there's ordinarily not anything there. Have your mom courteously insist that you simply be located in eleventh grade categories together with your friends. They don't have got to deliver you a transcript for ninth or tenth. Have your mother emphasize that. Also, the grades you get on assessments for whatever you took final yr may not be reasonable, assuming you're common and do not recall it one hundred%. I am guessing they're involved approximately giving thier transcript to any one who has no longer demonstrated. Discover your authorized rights

When is the 9th grade in nyc public high schools taking the regents?

ny is the in simple terms state that still has regents. (regrettably. They suck and all the different states don't understand how fortunate they're, oh my god) I took the integrated Algebra and Biology regents very last 3 hundred and sixty 5 days, and this 3 hundred and sixty 5 days I have the English, Geometry, Chemistry and international heritage Regents. Edit: i'm reading the numerous different solutions and, lol... I wish Regents and finals were the same element... >.<

Homeschooler trying to get into a public school??? Help!?!!?

A public school will have to enroll you.

BUT, every state and even many local school districts may set their own policies about how they go about that. Where I live, if you do not transfer in from an accredited school, (and most homeschools are not accredited,) then they automatically enroll you on academic probation, which means you cannot participate in any extra curricular activities until you have received a passing-grade report card for a full semester. In my district you can appeal the probation by either taking the placement test or by being interviewed by the department head of every subject you take.

It does seem silly to me that they would want you to take ninth-grade tests if you could pass the tenth-grade level. If you can pass Latin II you ought to be able to pass Latin I. I think your mom should ask about that.

Transferring in at the high school level usually does mean that you are going to have to satisfy the school that you know the material because they will be issuing your transcripts for a diploma. I think after a month or so in public school, you will understand why a school cannot just "take your word for it" that you belong in 11th grade. Testing is usually the simplest most cost-effective way to give the school that proof.

Public High School, Homeschooling, and Standardised Testing? (Curriculum Question?)?

I was in a somewhat similar situation to this too. I was considered 'gifted' ever since I was in elementary school. I wasn't learning anything in school and I finished the work before the teacher even finished explaining it. Because of this my mom decided to homeschool me. I could do the work very quickly like you are doing. I didn't learn a whole lot but I did learn some. Once I got to 7th grade I started doing online classes. I can't tell you how much better these are than actual homeschool curriculum, especially if your smarter than the average student.
You might be learning a little bit with your books right now but you probably aren't retaining the information. I strongly suggest you take online classes instead and don't go back to regular school. Almost every state offers a free online schooling program and they offer every class you will need to graduate. Most people say homeschooling causes kids to be socially inept, so to say. This is definitely not true. You can still have friends and be normal. Plus, you can work as fast as you want and graduate early, which is what I'm doing. Also, if you have a local community college you can start working on your AA degree now and have it by the time you graduate, which looks great when applying for college. I hope I helped, sorry for the long response.

Is there a placement test needed to get into public High School?

I don't know where you live, but in my state (Texas) if you want to go from homeschool to public school, you will have to take placement tests.
A friend of mine had to go back to work and her daughter is going back in right now, mid semester. She can take elective courses right now and has until Jan. to take and pass her tests. The reason she could only take electives is the schools in our district work on a block schedule which means they complete an entire year's worth of work in one semester (hmmm, sounds like they are catching on to our homeschool tricks...)
That's why she could not take any core classes, she would be too far behind.
The tests she has to take are 8th grade exit exams (she's in 9th) which means she will be tested on things she was supposed to learn in 8th grade. She's not concerned at all, but she is visiting testing websites to make sure she is familiar with all the material.
Have your parents check with your school district as to what they will require of you. If they will not tell you what type of tests you will be required to take, it will be very easy to google for state testing sites to give you a good idea of what you will be tested on.
good luck to you!

9th grade shsat questions?

Have you gotten a review book? The test is in October, right? That gives you two months - enough time to prep. At this point, it may be too late to sign up for a class.

The best way you can prep: practice tests! For this, I highly recommend the Barrons review book. It's got 4 or 5 mini-tests and 3 full length tests. First take a diagnostic test to see your weaknesses so you can focus immediately on those topics. Make sure you take every practice test under controlled conditions (timed and in a quiet environment.) Also, Barrons is the only book with a 9th grade supplement.

Of course, the best practice tests are from the DOE themselves. This .pdf is from 2008: http://schools.nyc.gov/NR/rdonlyres/D6C3...
and this is from 09: http://schools.nyc.gov/NR/rdonlyres/C895...

I don't know the cut-off for Stuy. I believe the cut off is based on the number of students they can accept. Say that Stuy can accept 30 ninth graders this year. The 30 highest scoring 9th graders will be accepted, and the 30th highest scorer will determine the cut off score.

Without prep, you didn't score too badly last year..... and you have a full two months ahead of you. You have a shot ;)

I took the test in 05 and was accepted into Stuyvesant. (I went to Townsend Harris instead). Message me if you want: click my name and next to my "about me" is a link that allows you to "Email super science geek".

Good luck!
