What genre of music would Sigur Rós fit into?
Sigur Rós make their own genre. They don't sound like anything else out there. I think you could place some of their albums in the Post-rock category (Ágætis Byrjun and ( ) for example are some of the best of post-rock, imo). I think their music is a blend of all of the categories you mentioned (maybe less dream-popish). But I've never troubled myself to categorize these guys as they have never either. Sigur Rós are one of the most unique bands I've ever run across and every listen is an amazing experience. So, I simply refer to their kind of music as Sigur Rós because it's their sound. Genres have never really troubled me as they come after the music and can never describe all bands adequately. I believe that is the case for Sigur Rós who produce such unique music, it is hard to fit them into a category. Whether it be Post-Rock, experimental, shoegazing, ambient, etc, these guys never disappoint. :)
How do you get someone to like a music genre?
Okay, before you start off with your, "oh, how minipulative" and stuff like that, i know i shouldent be doing this, but im in a deathcore band, and one of our guitarists, who is also my brother, is sorta going the other way.. he's always been into bands like The Dead Kennedys and Bad Brains, but before he was alright with playing our type of music.. but as a band progresses and influences change, all of us have gotten more technical and heavier, which he doesnt really like playing... I love my brother and i want him in my band, but dude, i cant go from Pig squealing about slaying bitches to yelling about being to drunk too f***, and i dont think any of the other dudes are keen on playing hardcore punk music either :| and to clarify, i dont want him too stop listening to his music, i dont want him to change who he is, i just want him to be a bit more open about this style of music...
