What Genre/type Of Music Is Popular In Ukraine

What are the more underrated genres of music?

My vote goes to traditional folk music. That’s our real “native language” in music, not the classical, not the jazz, pop, rock, disco, rap or whatever most people listen to. Including me, most of the time… I already posted traditional Transylvanian (Hungarian, Romani, Saxon, Swabian, Ukrainian) folk songs, as well as “classical” pieces inspired by Romanian folk songs in my answer to Which are some classic songs of your country?; and in some other answers too… Now let’s look a little further. Finland:Sweden:Greece:Armenia:Cambodia:Mongolia:Ainu (Japan) music:Songs of the Bayaka Pygmies from Central Africa:Traditional Lakota (Native American) Music:Ladino (Judeo-Spanish) Music:Andes Indio Music:Southern Âu Lạc (Vietnam):Mostly ignored, yet always there, more diverse than languages, this music is at the base of every style, every genre we know today. These songs are our musical roots. Did you find yours here? If not, post it in a comment or an answer. Be proud of your roots.

What types of folk music are found in the Ukraine?

Ukrainian folk music includes a number of varieties of traditional, folkloric, folk-inspired popular and folk-inspired classical traditions.Authentic folk singing:Ukrainians, particularly in the Eastern Ukraine have fostered a peculiar style of singing which they call "Білий голос" (Bilyi holos literally - White voice). Among the most popular exponents of traditional Ukrainian folk singing in the modern era are Nina Matviyenko and Raisa Kyrychenko.Art singing and choral art singing:In the 20th century, popular operatic singers like Solomiya Krushelnytska included Ukrainian folk songs in their concert performances. Other prominent Ukrainian singers have also propagated the singing of Ukrainian folk songs and romances. In the United States Kvitka Cisyk also promoted art song.Choral singing has a rich tradition in Ukraine. While the Catholic West developing sophisticated vocal instrumental works, the Orthodox church frowned on the use musical instruments in sacred music and A capella choral music was the only genre that was actively supported. As a result, sacred choral music flowered in Ukraine.Vocal Instrumental singing:In Ukraine there existed a class of professional musicians who sang to their own instrumental accompaniment. These professional musicians were often known as kobzari or lirnyky. This category also includes players of the torban and bandura. The repertoire of these itinerant musicians differed considerably from that sung by the folk including the performance of dumy (sung epic poems). In the 20th century the vocal-instrumental tradition has grown into a movement where ensembles and whole choirs sing to their own accompaniment on these instruments. Notable examples include the Ukrainian Banduryst Chorus, The Canadian Banduryst Capella and the Kyiv Banduryst Capella.Modern bards:Nowadays there are Ukrainian singers (so called, bards) that perform Ukrainian folk songs on bandura or kobza and developed their own style of singing. Examples: Taras Kompanichenko, Taras Zhytynsky, Vasyl Liutyi. There are also singers who perform in folk rock/folk metal ganre, such as Tin Sontsia.
